  Awesome value & service

  After struggling to get a place at Lake Konstanz, booking.com took us 50km down the road to this place. We got a 4 bed apartment, with a lounge, fridge and massive bathroom. Superb service from the lady Manager who spoke 6 languages. Good quality breakfast. No private parking but street outside was free in the evening. Plenty of eateries within 5 minute walk. Only negatives - rooms were boiling hot, and as the town is popular with bikers, sleeping with the windows open meant petrolheads outside brought interrupted sleep, which sucked. Great location in the middle of town. Option of late food (think it was curry) too, which was handy, but expensive. All in, great for a touring party. The hotel is massive and spans several old buildings. Best recommendation I can give...is that I would stay there again for sure.

  Fine place to stay if you aren't picky

  Untertor is a cute, decent place to stay if you have to stay in Altstatten. The staff is outstanding! This hotel has 2 separate buildings. We stayed in the 2nd building across from the main building with the lobby. There is a small, old, almost rickety elevator but it works thankfully because the staircases were less than desirable to use (dark and easy to trip). Rooms were clean and spacious enough. Beds were comfy. The walls are fairly thin as I could faintly but noticeably hear a dog barking and someone snoring. There are shops and food nearby. Free breakfast buffet at the hotel was pretty good. They also have free wi-fi and free parking after 6pm. Final note - we arrived to the hotel at 4pm. Apparently check-in time was 6pm. Lobby was locked and closed. Thankfully an employee just happened to be passing by and saw us so she let us check-in early. So check your check-in times before going - if you get there early, you may not be able to get in.

  Reasonable

  Located conveniently in old town. Stayed in a rather basically furnished single room, clean, but nothing what would merit more than 1-2 stars in the hotel classification. Expect a self-service experience, there is no stafff there through the night, and breakfast was served in a partner hotel 50 meters down the street..

  Good for Switzerland

  Relatively nice hotel with very nice owners. If you have a family of four they will book you in the "tower" room. This is the attic that has been converted (rather hastily I feel) into a large room. It has all the attic beams running through it and a big American fellow like myself hit his head a lot. My wife and kids liked it though because it was unique. Could work a bit on cleanliness and of course being Switzerland it is ridiculously expensive but that's just the way it is there.

  Save your money

  One night spent in this hotel means waste your money! No private parking...poor WIFI connection..... Not cleaned....a very small bathroom and to have breakfast the ower gives you a voucher for the nearby hotel....all this for 160CHF...... Lasciate perdere!!
