Incredible birthday weekend getaway. The staff is above and beyond the best!

Stayed at the Wentworth by the Sea this weekend in New Castle, NH to celebrate my daughters sixteenth birthday. Second time staying at the hotel during COVID. Im a Titanium member that travels for a living (pre-COVID), the hotel is 100% COVID ready and is completely enforcing and executing on COVID protocols. Between all of the social distancing markers, requiring mask to be worn when not eating/drinking in the restaurant, signs indicating tables that have be sanitized, and hand sanitizers everywhere you go, not having the cleaning staff entering your room, the TV remotes being covered in plastic, the hotel and staff simply could not do anything beyond their current practices. The hotel was immaculate, beautifully decorated for the holidays, and felt extremely safe and enjoyable. I would rarely take the time and energy to post on Trip Advisor, but this hotel staff does so many things right, they simply deserve to be recognized for all of their efforts and the positive impact they have on the guests of the hotel. My stay was for 3 days and 2 nights. We stayed in the Marina Suites that were outstanding. The room, including the kitchen area and the bathrooms were all immaculate and it great condition. The room had a gas fireplace that we used each night while watching TV in the living room while also gazing at all of the snow on the balcony it was absolutely perfect. Beyond the hotel being beautifully decorated for the holidays, the rooms being perfect and the marina views ... what really ended up making our stay outstanding was the Wentworth by the Sea staff and the quality of the food/service in the restaurant ... both were simply incredible (again). During each day of our stay we at breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant (Salt). The quality of food at Salt was unbeatable. Compliments to the chef and team at the restaurant top notch food that was served to perfection during each meal. The lobster roll at Salt was outrageous... you are not going to find a better lobster roll. I had the lobster roll two nights in a row and got one to take home. Highly recommend the pizza as they make it fresh in clear sight for everyone to see the in the oven behind the bar. As the impacts of COVID weigh on everyone, it's even more impressive to experience how the ENTIRE staff at the Wentworth by the Sea maintains such an incredible level of hospitality, fun, and warmth during the toughest of times. The examples of the staff making our stay so enjoyable and memorable are endless. The good feelings and quality of service began with my initial call to the hotel while in route on the day we were checking-in. I called to triple check that the Salt restaurant was still open and to reserve time at the gym during our stay. The person who answered the phone on Friday morning confirmed that the restaurant was open, proactively took me through there COVID protocols, and transferred me to the spa to reserve time at the gym (2 person capacity at the gym during COVID). Both people that I spoke with were extremely pleasant and upbeat (you can tell they smiling while speaking), and explained that they looked forward to my arrival and wished me happy holidays. The call set the tone for our stay. During our 3-day / 2-night stay, we ate four of our meals (breakfast and dinner) at Salt. Both dinner experiences were outstanding. The restaurant mgr (Sarah) was able to seat us at the available tables of our choice on both nights. Everything matters when you are with three girls (and one of them is celebrating her 16th birthday). As I explained, the food was exceptional throughout our stay, and it was inline with the excellent service we received from our servers (Lance and Andrew). Breakfast is by far our favorite meal and we were not disappointed. All of our meals were outstanding. Once again, our servers (Patti and Luis) played a huge role in our overall experience. Patti was hilarious and found a way to make the non-birthday girl feel extra special by allowing her to have an unlimited supply of whipped cream on her chocolate pancakes that were beyond delicious. Luis was awesome as he was so focused on making sure everyone was happy and that I fully understood the benefits of my 2 breakfast vouchers for being Bonvoy Titanium Elite. One of the most memorable and unexpected moments of our stay was our experience with the Elf on the Shelf. When we checked into the hotel my 10-year old daughter noticed the female Elf on the Shelf in the lobby and immediately fell in love with her. My daughter named her Snowflake and wrote her a letter that we placed near the Elf. The next morning while we walked into the lobby and began heading to Salt, the person at the front desk (Katherine) asked my daughter her name and explained that she had a note that was left for her. The note was a response from Snowflake. Its hard to put into words, but it was as if my daughter was floating around the lobby while reading the note from the Elf on the Shelf. It was a priceless moment of the Christmas spirit being alive and well. My daughter talked about Snowflake and the note received during our entire stay. The Elf changed her location in the lobby each day during our stay and all of us had so much fun searching for her each morning. A special thanks to Katherine, Kayla, and the entire front desk team each morning! The staff at the Wentworth by the Sea were incredible and helped make an amazing hotel / property an unforgettable experience for me and my family while celebrating a very special birthday.

    Nice getaway

My wife and I visited to celebrate our retirement and 40th wedding anniversary. The original plans were a big family gathering, but it was just to two of us for obvious reasons. Our room was ready early, bell service and front desk very welcoming. Grand old hotel. Very well kept. It was not very full so the room was quiet. Mattress was comfortable. I am not a fan of duvets on the bed, but especially when they are too small for the king mattress. I am 511 so not that tall, but I had to choose between my feet or torso being under the covers. My only real complaint would be the poor wi fi in the rooms. It worked fine in the lobby area but not in the room. No biggie for our one night but for a longer stay it would be a pain. Checkout was simple. We would stay again after COVID. I will review Salt separately.

    Not quite what I expected

Having stayed at other historic hotels, my expectations were really high. I must admit that I was really impressed with how the hotel looks from the outside. The property has a very charming outdoor space, especially the exterior porch and patio. However, I was mildly disappointed at how unimpressive the lobby is (even when it was decked out for the holidays) and how ordinary the room is. The room had no character at all. Our room has a view of the water and has a french balcony. The location of the room afforded us breathtaking views of the sunset. The room itself though, as previously mentioned, is just a plain hotel room with a bathroom that could use some sprucing up. Expected more, such as robes, or plush towels, or hotel slippers, and a better set of bathroom amenities (shower cap at the very least) because it's a category 7 hotel, but no such luck. It was dust-free, but the cleanliness of the carpet is a little suspect because we found a pair of used white socks in the corner, behind one of the chairs. In addition, the fitted sheet on one of the beds was inside out. We chose a room package that a included a PPV movie, popcorn, candies, and soda for each night, but the kitchen forgot to send us the food on our second night. We didn't bother calling to remind them. For our breakfast on our second day, we sat at the same table where we dined the evening before. A piece of potato chip my son dropped at dinner was still sitting there at the base of the table at breakfast time. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience at Salt though because of the servers Mackenzie and Lance, Diane the host, and the food. The spa session was really amazing and relaxing. They offer a quick facial that you can add to your massage, which was a treat. Booking the appointment was a breeze. Kudos to the front desk for the late checkout, which allowed my husband and I to book our back to back spa appointments. Masks are required in all public areas. Hand sanitizer dispensers are everywhere. Theres a limit on the number of people allowed in the pool area at any given time, and they enforce that rule. Theres also a sign by the elevators discouraging guests from sharing the elevator with other guests who are not in the same room or party. These are some of measures they have in place as part of the covid-19 protocols.

    Not informed ahead

We made reservations to include breakfast and dinners each day and after looking at the menu were excited. We knew covid rules wer in effect. Two days before arrival I called to find out if we needed reservations for meals. The main dining room was closed, ok, no problem. The bar restaurant was open but when I asked about menu I was told that there was a shortened menu from what was usually offered on the full dining plan but no adjustment in price was made. That made a very small menu VERY expensive. Needless to say we cancelled and may return someday but we should have been advised of adjustments especially major ones. Nice place but deception is not called for at anytime.
