    The ultimate horror hotel!

I had the unfortunate experience of staying at this hotel for 6 nights. Nothing worked - not phone,WiFi,TV,torch, room safe The room was in the VIP section in a building separate from the main one. The room was designated non-smoking but reeked of smoke and had not been dusted or cleaned properly. Towels were dirty, hot water tepid and English almost entirely unspoken. Whatever the event I hope to never have to experience this caliber of hotel again. Most guests I encountered expected a view of the Westlake - there is a hill view but definitely no lake nearby.

Not a good hotel, disappointing even for China

The pictures look pretty good, don't they? Well, the photographer certainly earned his keep there, because unfortunately this hotel is pretty crappy. Even from the first impressions upon pulling up at the hotel, you can see it's a little dilapidated - it clearly hasn't been maintained too well. The promotional photos do this place a little too much justice, if you ask me. The staff are friendly enough but pretty incompetent. At least they were apologetic. There's a hive of activity behind the check-in desk, though between 5 of them they took 15+ minutes to check us in, giving several different accounts of our room (first the room we booked wasn't available for both nights, then they said all they could manage was a twin room, then finally someone else came out and said no, it's absolutely fine). Again, they were pretty friendly and courteous, just seemed like they had no idea what they were doing. We were in a 'superior' room. They'd left a small bowl of fruit out to greet us, which is a nice enough touch... though the accompanying swarm of fruit flies wasn't really the nicest first impression of the room. We discovered quickly that the toilet didn't flush, though the came and it very quickly (he was kind of awesome actually). The shower is one of the worst I've used in a Chinese hotel - water pressure basically a drip, took nearly 10 minutes for any hot water to come through. The fridge/minibar was locked. The pillows on the bed were torn. The wifi is so slow that it isn't even worth trying to use (though some would argue that's pretty standard for China). All around the hotel is evidence that while this place may have been quite luxurious in its heyday, it has been pretty poorly maintained. This isn't the worst hotel I've stayed in in China, but the big thing is that for this price, you can do a hell of a lot better. If it was half the price this place charges, I'd have few complaints. But this hotel presents itself as a little more luxurious, and it's only after visiting (and paying) that you realise you were stiffed. We didn't go to the restaurant so can't comment there. All in all, regret booking this hotel.

    Bad on so many levels

There are so many things that were wrong with this hotel. Here's a quick summary: * no one spoke English * front desk did not know how to exchange money * rooms were blisteringly hot, and A/C was deficient * meeting room was even hotter * buffet breakfast was poor - one day coffee, but no cups - next day, cups, but no coffee - * lunches were worse - cold mushroom soup? really? * front façade and lobby were well maintained - nothing else was * both phones in my room had broken handsets

    Needs to modernize

The hotel has two pavilions, and I stayed at the second one further up the hill, so I can only comment on the rooms there. PROs: Rooms are very spacious Rooms have balconies that open to the Hangzhou hillside, giving a pleasant ambience with views of nature. There are jacuzzi tubs in the rooms, and the bathrooms are huge with their own balconies. Relatively quiet. Beds are comfortable and I got a very nice night of rest. CONs: Rooms are a bit old. The jacuzzi tub is nice, but in serious need of maintenance. I only dare take a bath in it but don't dare to turn on the jacuzzi function for fear of what might pop out of the jet streams. For a hotel of this caliber, there should be more attention to detail that cheapen the experience. For example, on the table in the rooms are anti-drug placards and pamphlets about AIDS prevention. It makes you wonder what kinds of activities goes on here. I'm sure the hotel is relatively safe by these standards, and putting these notices here may be required by law, but how about putting them in more discrete places, out of plain sight? In summary, I wouldn't complain if I was here on business and was arranged to stay here on someone else's expense, but if you are here for vacation and want more enjoyment, I would advise looking elsewhere.

    Good location

Stayed at this hotel as part of a group tour through China. Big room with a very comfy bed, plenty of shelf space and excellent room lighting. Breakfast provided plenty of choices but no omelettes. Shower pressure was good and plenty of hot water. On the neg side, aircon wall control did not adjust room temperature so the room was quite hot to sleep in at night and the windows were dirty.
