    Relax

    Rustic, pleasant, some issues

As we approached the resort, which was far off the main road as well as via an access road in very poor condition, I began to have some real anxiety about what we were getting into. But the resort is comfortable though rustic, with traditional, open to the elements construction. I had a great massage there, The food is good, plentiful and reasonably priced. The wonderful Mandalao elephant experience (highly recommended) is very nearby. The staff is friendly and mostly attentive though response time can be desultory. The internet is awful, so be prepared to be disconnected while there. For me, the big negative is the distance to Luang Prabang. Its more than 30 minutes away, bouncing around on bad roads. My suggestion is plan 4-5 days in the area, two in this type of relaxing, pastoral atmosphere near the elephants and 2-3 more in or very near Luang Prabang itself, enjoying the sights, variety, eclectic crowd and more cosmopolitan scene. Also, recommend that while there you dont frequent any establishment that trades in elephant rides. There is no humane way to do it, so dont.

    Hidden paradise

The resort is at an amazing position in the jungle with a pool and a decent restaurant. It is the perfect place to relax, do your massage and enjoy nature. The stuff was very helpful and friendly. There is not much to do around but there is the river and the Village not far away.

    Disappointed!

We were really disappointed with this hotel. In general, the hotel hasnt been maintained, with upholstery torn and stained, old fraying towels and robes, dirty and stained walls and furniture. Our door hinges were broken, so I couldnt shut it properly and mosquitos had easy access. There was a large spider in our room, and no mosquito net. Staff did put up a net for us on request. The room had a musty smell. Overall, staff were quick to respond and really tried to do their best. Due to construction of the rail line in the area, the roads to the hotel are terrible. The breakfast included in the hotel price was excellent, with good coffee and fantastic French Toast. The other meals we had were good, but expensive. The views are lovely, and the pool looked inviting. We had booked 3 nights, but left after the first night. The owner has a new hotel in Luang Prabang and accommodated us there for the remaining nights.

    Heavenly, peaceful and beautiful

I was looking for a quiet, comfortable getaway for a few days and found the perfect place! I took a scooter up from Luang Prabang and, yes, the road isn't great (I'd advise most people to take the provided transport) but, for someone like me, that is a good sign. Roads in Laos aren't great and this one was a little challenging but not undoable. But, when you arrive, you find a paradise. The staff were so kind and the grounds were lovely. The pool was beautiful and my room was well beyond my expectations for such a rural environment. The bedding and design were beautiful and the large veranda overlooking the river and the mountains grew more stunning with each view. Relaxing and quiet, the staff provide for all your needs cheerfully. I met the owner and she is marvelous and I felt even better about staying there knowing that my money is going to such a thoughtful enterprise. There are loads of activities available though my main goal was to read in peaceful solitude and that is exactly what I did. I do highly recommend the truly ethical MandaLao elephant sanctuary just downriver. Food and service and environment were on point and I look forward to returning!
