    Lovely in every possible way!

First and foremost, Mr. and Mrs. Gruner are perfect hosts - they are warm and welcoming, gracious, kind, fun to talk to, and generous with information. They greeted us personally for dinner and showed us to the bar for an aperitif or to our table, treating us as friends. Their energy and soul are evident throughout the hotel, and make the property the oasis it is. Everything is fresh and impeccably tasteful. My family of four was very comfortable in an apartment in their "Residence" Annex. Parents and kids had spacious separate rooms with wonderful beds. Living room, kitchenette and bathroom are all comfortable, well equipped, beautiful and look brand new. There's also a laundry room downstairs which is a treat for a family on a long hiking vacation. The silence, view out to the alpine valley and silence and fresh air were all extra bonuses. The village is tiny and adorable, with a supermarket across the street. Breakfast and dinner were both sumptuous, and we enjoyed some of the best dishes and wines we tasted in Italy at the hotel. Needless to say - Val Senales is gorgeous. We also treated ourselves to a night at the Gruners' Bella Vista mountain refuge, which was a great high-alpine experience. All in all a superb stay, highly recommended. We hope to return some day.

    Wow!

This was one of the best hotel experiences that weve had in a long time. Incredible care and thought was put into each element of our stay. The owners and staff made us feel warmly welcome and that we were in a very special place. I could not recommend this hotel more. Some more info about our stay: - The setting is the ultimate in relaxation - set on the slopes of the long valley, you hear the river going by and little else! Beauty in the silence. Dont go visit this area expecting a lot of shopping or nightlife - the total lack of either of those makes this a perfect place to stay! - We stayed in the residence, which is a 3 minute walk away from the main hotel building. Our room, Alpenrose, had 2 large bedrooms, a living room and a bathroom. There was also a small terrace outside. The bed was so comfortable and all of the bed linens were very high quality and made beautifully each morning. Comfy robes and slippers were convenient for the sauna (there are 2 saunas and 2 showers in the basement of the residence, there are more in the main hotel building and it looks like theyre building some additional wellness facilities in-between). Parking was directly outside. - A huge highlight of this hotel is the outstanding food. We visited in the winter and did the half-board package, which included breakfast, dinner and tea. Be prepared for an indulgent experience, its good to make sure you have some robust exercise during the day! At breakfast were many varieties of breads, cheeses, spek and salamis, yogurts, all kinds of homemade jam. We also got fresh scrambled eggs which chives each day which were delicious. Dinner was 5 courses each night, which you ordered at breakfast based on the menu for the day. Each day is a different 5 recommended dishes (starter/pasta/soup/main/dessert)and then a list of about 10 other options you could swap in if the chefs menu doesnt appeal. Every single thing that we ate was absolutely outstanding. You wish you could eat even more so you can try everything on the menu! Plus, the setting of the restaurant, wonderful service and immaculate table settings just makes every meal feel like a special experience. The wine list is extensive and we loved trying the different recommended house wines each night from the South Tyrol region. One of my favorite off the menu things I ordered was a pasta with a Ragu of wild sheep. WOW. - The spa is also a treat, and the products they create are very natural and hydrating. During the stay we did a sports massage that included some special mud mask and we both felt super refreshed the next day and did some great skiing. We reserved the massage in the morning for that afternoon, and were well taken care of. - We chose to stay here based on the recommendation in Sawdays Italy and were looking for a place close to skiing. We were not sure what to expect of the local skiing (Schnals/Senales), but were so pleasantly surprised, much in thanks to the gorgeous weather and fantastic snow on the glacier. On recommendation from the hotel, we rented a skis and boots from Ski Factory which is in one of the hotels in Maso Corto. Its run by a classic ski master - Sepp, and he set us up with brand new performance skis. The whole crew there was exteremely helpful and friendly, I wish we had called earlier so that we could have scheduled a lesson or something. Highlights of skiing at Schnals/Senales are the lack of crowds (we didnt wait in any lines!), the sunny slopes, the wide, steep runs perfect to work on carving! Since youre so high up, the snow stays great all day, even on sunny days. We had TONS of fun. - Another great experience if you are skiing is to visit the Bella Vista Rifugio also owned by the family. Probably some of the best ski food Ive ever had, and on a gorgeous sunny terrace with a spectacular view. Like at the main hotel, the staff and service are out of this world, we never had to wait more than 10 minutes for beverages and lunch orders. Would love to return and sleep in the building as well, could be really nice in the summer for hiking. Though wed never heard of the area (and were quite surprised that everyone was speaking German, we were expecting Italian!), it turned out to be the best surprise. Mountain elegance, comfort, and simple luxury. The perfect place to get away from it all, relax and refresh your outlook, and just totally enjoy. GO!

Good base for walking no car needed

The hotel was very cosy and relaxed with great half board food and matching good wine list. They staff we are very helpful and happy to help with little requests on the menu. Karthaus is a charming tiny village with plenty of walks direct from the hotel or via the excellent local bus service which runs by the front door.
