  Quiet,pampered elegance

  We just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in Newport, staying at the Artful Lodger. This was our second visit there, and we really couldn't have done better. Phil and Ron took the wonderful care of us. The view from their third story breakfast room is superb. We were able to stay in the same room (Anne's room), in the same bed. It was so special!

  New Year's Sunrise

  This is a bed and breakfast, but the second floor suite, no 7, is beyond a bed and breakfast. Breakfast with Ron is a good time and good food. The view from the 3rd floor dining area is great. This is a bed and breakfast in Newport with onsite parking and a three minute walk to all the restaurants. Enough said. Phil was very helpful. We made a last minute reservation and he made it all happen.

  Perfect little spot for our last minute 4th of July gateway during a pandemic!

  Heidi and her team were amazing hosts over the busy July 4th weekend. I don't think the inn was fully booked which was nice and made us feel safer in the pandemic. We couldn't hear any other guests around or at night in our room. I don't think there was anyone else on our side of the house actually. Each morning we got fresh hot breakfast which was delicious! Chef made the most perfect scrambled eggs. We hardly saw another guest the entire time we were there and didn't feel unsafe or worried about COVID. Breakfast includes fresh warm baked muffins each day, slabbed with butter. Each day was a different flavor, our weekend we had banana nut, oatmeal raisin, and blueberry, they were amazing! Breakfast choices are all on the sweet side aside from eggs any style or the daily bagel. Each day you get a nice little yogurt and granola starter with your muffins. The coffee was strong and the OJ was DELICIOUS! The inn is old and there are a lot of stairs. We stayed in the Havisham Suite with jet bath Room 6. Breakfast Included. FYI, if you do stay in this room, breakfast requires a small work out of going down the steep and narrow stairs then up 2 more flights to the observatory where the kitchen is. Clearly the old house has its quirks and I don't envy the owners for having to schlep groceries up 3 flights of stairs. Once you make the trip up the stairs, the view is worth it! They even have a little odor porch to eat outside up there as you take in the breathtaking views of Newport and the harbor. There is a mini-fridge stocked with bottled water and tea available on the first floor. There is also a micro ice machine and our room had a mini-fridge. Our room had a fireplace and a love seat couch. The bathtub with jets was huge and we enjoyed a nice soak one night. The room even came with some bath salts and bubbles! The bed was made and the room was also perfectly tidy (even if we left messes around...like some empty bottles of rose) neatened up each day. The bed was very comfortable and the AC worked well. Wifi worked everywhere, including outside in the garden. There was a window in the bedroom side of the room that you couldn't open unfortunately and you do get a strong smell of the disinfectant when you walk in but we didn't mind because it went away quickly and if the air is circulating you forget about the smell in moments. Aside from the odor our stay was perfect! We spent a lot of time in the garden which had plenty of bug spray to use. We blasted music loud and no one cared. Heidi and her team were so hospitable and kind! They went above and beyond to make our stay amazing and memorable. It wouldn't have been as pleasurable without Heidi and her knowledge and guidance of Newport. The inn is perfectly located away from the mayhem and crowded downtown streets. Everything is walkable and every meal we had we walked to within 15 minutes. We would recommend Liberty donuts, Shells and Scales, Winner Winner, and TSK at the revolving door. Make sure to go to food early to grab outdoor seating or make reservations in advance. Second Beach is the best beach! So clean and perfect! Food stand and Dels at surfers end. We will definitely return again!

  Awful

  Disgustingly filthy, tired out, overpriced, the manager Phil is rude, often times not there and the bathrooms are smaller than a linen closet. Youll be lucky if you get housekeeping as Phil likes to make excuses (usually pretending he is busy with his daughter) to avoid working at the Inn. The B and B is also very far from town. Not convenient.

  Perfect Winter retreat

  This inn enticed us to leave our home in the midst of winter for a change of scene and some pampering. The in-room jacuzzi, right next to the fireplace, complete with bath salts and cozy towels, gave us everything we needed. Breakfast in the conservatory overlooking the harbor was a delight. Ron cooks up a variety of breakfast treats, along with fruit and yogurt and fresh-baked muffins. We even brought our takeout dinner up to the conservatory and watched the sunset. It's an old house, with narrow stairs and tiny bathroom. But that's to be expected in historic Newport. The neighborhood provided lovely walks and lots of options for meals. We would definitely come back.
