Rooms in need of a good clean

Our room had fizzy drink sprayed up the walls and bathroom door. There were old chip forks, a nail polish bottle and copious amounts of fluff under the beds. A half-naked bloke shouting from a top-floor bedroom wasn't exactly a warm welcome. The hot water took an age to come through to the bathroom taps and shower, we wasted gallons in an attempt to have a shower.

    Mediocre

A friend and I met up and visited for coffee. The exterior of the hotel looked dire and very worn, which needed a new coat of paint to freshen it up. The interior was pleasant enough, but the furniture was old fashioned. It could have a more stylish decor.

    Fantastic stay

Stayed for my birthday and the staff or hotel didn't let us down. Room nice with a comfy bed. Towels so big and soft and staff really do go out of their way to help. Food at the bar was amazing and chef recommenation was spot on. Lovely lady on reception will do all she can to make your stay perfect.

    Fit for purpose

Was down for a family funeral and obviously not much choice of hotels local to where we needed to be that were open. Hotel on the outside needs spruced up, inside was fine. First look at the twin room we were in was good but since it was a twin i didn't expect the beds to be together and there was no room to separate them either, luckily it was for my daughter and myself. My daughter had the best sleep but me not so much as the bed was too soft and the noise from the bathroom next to us kept me awake. The walls are too thin. But apart from my moans I would definitely go back because you get what you pay for so just don't expect too much

    Lovely beach, poor hotel

Building in a very poor state of repair, signs up inside building apologizing for holes in ceilings, lifts out of order etc. First room I was checked into had the radiator stuck on - middle of summer and 30C outside - same temperature inside, changed room, second almost as hot, then told ALL rooms have hot water pipes running round them - they are going to have them 'boxed in' to lower the temperature........this has been a Best Western for 35 years - I suspect that they are in no hurry to do the work. Breakfast was similar standard to Fawlty Towers, I was fully expecting John Cleese to appear. Do not book here unless you wish to experience the worst of British hotels.

    CROOKS!

CROOKS! You book through the best western website (direct) and it says to pay on arrival but they then PROCEED to take it when they want. I called the reception and they claim that I never book direct (I did on best western website) and they can take the money when they want and tough. No refund. I phone best western head office to be told this is NOT policy and they shouldnt do that! Now Im the fool thats got to wait 5-10 business days for the money to eventually be refunded and now find somewhere to stay as I point blank REFUSE to let this establishment have any of my money now. AVOID AVOID AVOID

    another good stay

Hello, stayed a few times now and always the hotel is clean and tidy, and the staff are so accommodating. Rooms do not have AC, but a fan is provided, perfect location opposite the beach, lovely in the evenings as the sun goes down. Breakfast is always excellent, with plenty of choice.

Dreadful Customer Management, Questionable Health and Safety and Pricing Issues

I visited the hotel in July with my elderly parents and my sister and her husband, we were quoted over the telephone a rate for the two couples and a slightly lower rate (not half obviously!) for myself (double room, single occupancy). Firstly the positives, there were some great staff there, very friendly in the main and my parents who are elderly and disabled had a fabulous room and were well catered for. My sister and her husband had a lovely room also with a beautiful sea view. I, however, was less well catered for Im single,so was stuck in the worst possible rooms -TV falling off the wall, tiny window dark room with horrendous wind whistling around the very badly fitted door and a view of the roof. Not only this but I was charged the same as 2 people sharing a double room! Before you say it I have travelled independently hundreds of time and fully understand that some hotels, if busy (this one wasnt) feel the need to charge more for one person than two however, to charge double for one person than two is not equitable one breakfast, one lot of towels and linen etc..I wouldnt have minded so much if it was a nice room but (see above). I was charged a full double room charge despite being quoted a lower price, I queried this but the hotel were adamant this was incorrect - as we were quoted on the phone I had no proof and didnt want to spoil the break. In addition to this, changing the carpets whilst we were there with a smell of glue and and what was worse leaving them in a very dangerous state with lips of carpet by the door ready for me to trip over and worse leaving them by my parents room was downright dangerous kudos to the manager who dealt with this as soon as I reported it but still should not have been left in this state. They also covered the smoke alarm with a plastic glove very stupid and dangerous especially as the very next day they set the alarm off by smoking the glue on the carpets too much this could have ended very, very badly (they denied this and said it was a customer having a hot shower) despite me being present when they were telling the workmen off! Their response to the issues in my room which was clearly of a lower standard was that the computer chooses the rooms and theyd checked and it was fine (despite the photographs Id sent) The wind whistling around the Ill fitting doors (again completely denied by the Ops Manager) was horrendous and kept me awake, I understand locations means its a breezy area but this was not insurmountable and could easily have been dealt with (draft tape anyone). What annoyed me the most was that I emailed the Ops manager about this and he blankly denied any of this occurred presumably thinking Im a daft single woman and was flat blank rude in his very delayed response. I dont like being accused of lying! What happened to the customer is always right. I didnt complain at the hotel as looking after 2 very elderly parents who dont like fuss was my priority. The final straw in an email response which took a very long time to arrive was the Ops Manager saying I hope that you will consider staying with us again so that we can have another chance to provide you with a superior experience ANOTHER CHANCE I can assure you this was not a Superior Experience! No recompense or even acknowledgment of the issues.

    Poor Best Western experience

Room very hot - no air conditioning. Decor/furnishings old. Hotel in very poor state of repair. Damage, rust and paintwork poor all around hotel. Uninviting, poor appearance. Very little staff interaction. Outside eating area poor - inside eating area no ventilation on hot day.
