  Fantastic as always

  This is our 3rd visit to the Burnside Hotel this year and it never disappoints. All the staff are amazing they can't do enough for you. A special mention to Alicia on reception my Mexican friend, also to Will, Brian and Finlay in the bar, Neil and the restaurant staff. The hotel is spotless, the rooms are gorgeous if your budget will stretch go for a hot tub suite. The food is superb. I can't praise this hotel enough, love it, love it, love it, thanks again Burnside, we will be back soon (definitely).Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all xx

  All in all, a pleasant stay

  Pros: Staff extremely friendly, very helpful and attentive Pool/spa area was lovely, recently renovated, youre also allowed drinks poolside provided youve had lunch in the pub (the spa/pool area is a part of the pub, which is not joined to the main hotel) The cocktails are very generous, and very delicious Hotel and sleeping area in the room was very clean Very short walk from a lovely town centre and lake THE GARLIC BREAD, heavens the garlic bread was the best Ive had and the fact Ill have to drive 4 hours to be graced with its cheesy goodness makes me want to cry The food served at the bar and restaurant was amazing! My partner said the fillet steak was one of the best he had, perfect sear on the meat, and the garlic sauce served was delicious! Hotel grounds, bar and restaurant decor was a lovely twist of modern and traditional, felt very homely Cons: The room Unsure if this is just a feature of Room 241, but the walls are VERY thin, you can hear everything in the room next to you, from flicking light switches to conversations. When the room next to us ran their bath the pipes made a very unsettling humming sound, which woke us up as our neighbours had a habit of bathing at 12:45 at night. The bathroom was extremely tiny, thus difficult to use, the taps whilst they appear to be single flow are not. The left of the water stream will be boiling hot, and the right freezing, washing hands was very unpleasant. The plug also wasnt draining properly, and the sink would flood, which I fixed myself. Only worked out on the 2nd night how to get the tiny radiator in the bathroom to turn on, it was just big enough to hang a flannel on, there was no were else to hang towels to dry. The shower screen seal strip had black mould inside it, and replacement strips are not expensive or hard to clean properly! The bathroom also had no ventilation apart from a tiny window, so stayed slightly moist for the duration of our stay The shower was the weakest of showers, if you have thick hair, washing it will be a nightmare The door also wouldnt lock properly, after toying with the door I managed to fix another DIY issue The breakfast We paid extra to have breakfast included, around £20 per day extra. It would be advisable that you not bother with breakfast at the hotel and go into town The fruit bowls were measly, and the fry ups were terrible, the best part being the mushrooms and hash browns The single skinny sausage served tasted like a heated cocktail sausage, the bacon was tough and very salty, and the single fried egg was laughably small! The black pudding was a disappointment, lacking in any flavour The breakfasts were very underwhelming, considering how much pride is taken in the food served at the bar and restaurant Spa Im sure in the summer, the spa not being attached to the main hotel wouldnt be an issue, but nearing winter and just watching some guests running over in dressing gowns gave me goosebumps The womans changing rooms were a complete pig sty on both visits, towels left of the floor, used makeup wipes and pads left on the floor and on the sides, even a bikini was left in the spinner, it was there for both visits Good to knows There is a Tesco express about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel If youve driven down and are thinking of driving into the hills for some hiking, keep your wits about you on the roads, the locals drive like nutters

  First visit

  We visited this hotel for a birthday and were not disappointed with anything. The room was clean and cosy and the hot tub was fab. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming, especially the concierge staff. We ate in the pub and in the bar and the food was lovely as were the drinks. The service from all staff was quick and all were polite. We will definitley be coming back and have recommended this hotel to friends.

  Customer Service is out of this world.

  We originally booked in to room 106. Beautiful suite with cinema room but discovered our shower wasnt heating up so phoned reception. House keeping came up while we went down for something to eat and a drink in the bar. Housekeeping came to find us to say they couldnt fix the shower so were upgrading us to a bigger suite next door with hot tub for no extra charge. (Room 108) Got our bill at the end of the night and no drinks were charged for because of the inconvenience. Gorgeous clean room, immaculately turned out. Ate in the restaurant that evening and Ive never tasted duck like it, I cant wait to go back just for that. The burnside makes some other hotels of the same rating look like hostels, honestly amazing we cant wait to come back!

  Wonderful

  What a wonderful hotel. This was our second visit!! We checked into one of the hot tub rooms facing the lake, it was absolutely gorgeous! The room was immaculately clean top to bottom, as well as the rest of the hotel. Staff were always cleaning high traffic areas throughout the day. The food at breakfast and night time was such high quality it couldnt be faulted, the attention to detail during breakfast in these rubbish times was brilliant!! Everything wrapped and covered individually, perfect!!! The bar staff were always very polite and attentive. The spa is equally as beautiful and clean, slightly let down by the amount people allowed into the spa at once by the young lads working in the pub bar, it is not the largest area and I counted up to 26 people in there at once, I personally didnt feel safe especially since the hotel had made such great efforts up to this point with there restrictions, at no fault of the hotel there were people also entering the hot tub with more than one household which is stated not allowed on the guidance email and sadly the staff at the pub were serving alcohol to people and I quote saying As long as Borris or the big boss doesnt catch me, you can have whatever you want as these people were not eating a meal before or after their spa experience. As an NHS employee you dont want to watch people making your life at work harder by not sticking to rules!
