    Don't waste your money

We booked to stay here for the first two weeks in October 2017. We booked through Solmar Villas and chose Mamma Mia 2 (or B) as it is advertised as something special. It cost over £2200 to stay here. The jacuzzi bath didn't work, the villa wasn't particularly clean and to be honest needs to be refurbished to bring it up to a standard. The bed was uncomfortable and so didn't even get a good sleep while we were there. The pool man was great though and he did keep the pool clean. I have tried leaving a review on Solmar Villas but they surprisingly don't put it up!! The only good thing we did like was that it was close to Marina Rubicon which was wonderful. We would not waste our money going here again.

Dont panic if you have booked this already!

We stayed here in July 2018. We booked through Jet2 (flights, car and villa), only a few weeks before as a last minute break. As a result of booking last minute, I hadnt checked Trip Advisor until two days before we flew once it was booked and I really panicked having read the existing reviews. I was so relieved when we got to the villa saw that it is actually really nice. Dont get me wrong, there are things which need to improve but the worry I felt before we went, made me want to review this for others who may feel the same panic. When we landed at the airport, my husband picked up the info envelope from theJet2 desk. Luckily we noticed while we were still at the airport that they had left the key code blank. He went back to confirm the key code number. THERE ARE TWO VILLAS SIDE BY SIDE BOTH CALLED MAMMA MIA. Our envelope said Mamma Mia A, so we panicked a bit when we drove to our villa and another family from the plane were at Villa A trying to gain entry. Turns out we were given the entry code for Villa B. Im not sure to this day which one we were meant to be in, but my advice would be to check this at the airport and get the correct entry code while you are still there! Once inside, the villa (B) is lovely. Whether or not they have changed the management Im not sure, as it was clean, and well presented with swan towels (see pics) and a welcome bowl of bananas and chocolate, and milk in the fridge. However, the villa was without toilet roll, handwash, dishwasher tablets or washing detergent. I always take all these with me in case so it wasnt a problem, but if you dont, you should. Ive mentioned we went with Jet2 as it may be different if you go with another rental firm Im not sure. All the living accommodation is on the ground floor, except the living room which is downstairs in the basement with a shower room and sauna attached. We didnt ever use the sauna so Im not sure if it works. On the main ground floor, there are three bedrooms. The master is en-suite and has doors out to the pool area. For little ones, both other bedrooms are window only and do not lead to pool area. There are blackout blinds behind the curtains in the bedrooms so I didnt need the portable one I took for our kids. There is a bathroom in between the two twin bedrooms and all these are along at one end of the corridor. At the other end of the corridor is the kitchen dining area and stairs down to the living area. With having young kids, we didnt use the living area at night, we sat up in the dining area so they werent miles away and nearer the front door than we were but each to their own! The living room does have marks on the floor but as a space to escape the heat I liked it. Ive put photos on of this space as the only photos so far are of the bad stuff! There is building work going on around the villa, so if you are expecting peaceful lying by the pool you wont get this. It was okay for us as, with young kids, we were at the beach in the mornings and playing in the pool in the afternoon but never needing complete tranquility. The pool is fab. We have stayed in villas with much bigger pools but the temperature is affected as a result. This pool is big enough to swim about in, and a good temperature for kids and husband. Id have it a degree or two warmer! There are no pool towels, we used our own beach towels. The area is being heavily developed as it is very close to the Rubicon Marina which has had a lot of development. I imagine if we return in 10 years time it will be unrecognisable as the streets and street lights are already mapped out, and it will all be built up soon. The villa itself isnt in Playa Blanca, we tended to drive down to the town and main beach bit in the day, and go the Marina at night for dinner which is much closer. You could walk to Playa Blanca (people did) but again, with young kids, easier to drive with all the beach gear! The main beach itself is white (clue is in the name!) so its not as hot as the black sand beaches. It is shelly though, not really soft sand and still pretty toasty. There are water sports at the beach, we took out a pedal boat, 15 for an hour. There are lots of restaurants and a supermarket at the beach for water etc. The town itself has a lot of restaurants, but we found the food and drinks at the marina a lot nicer. There are lots of HyperDino supermarkets with a good selection of food and they generally stock a few gluten free things (bread etc.) Back to the house, we had taken mosquito repellent plugs, and had the AirCon on too, and thankfully didnt get bitten nor did we see any other bugs in the house. There were a few folk at the beach with bites so they were definitely about. There are other reviews talking about the master bedroom mattress and I would agree, this needs fixing. By the end of the week, we had sore backs and agreed we couldnt do a fortnight on that bed. The jacuzzi bath also still doesnt work, and having read back through reviews, this should have been fixed by now. This didnt affect us too much, but if its one of the reasons for booking, be prepared that it doesnt work. On the first night, one of the bedside lights in the kids room stopped working (not just the bulb going) so the wiring is a bit funny in there. The safe in the master wardrobe was locked when we got there and not fixed to anything, so we didnt see any point in trying to gain access as it could just be lifted anyway. The villa is needing a book on how to work things. There is information about the island, but not anything about the villa specifically. (The WiFi password is on the underside of the router). There were also a lot of very sunburnt people. The wind in Lanzarote is one of the things we loved about it as although we had temperatures of 28-31 the wind stops any discomfort from the heat. However, you need to be more vigilant about taking breaks from the sun as a result as you dont feel the burn! We did a day at Aqualava water park which is really close (15 min drive) and good fun. There are good points and bad points about the villa, but we had our best holiday yet so you can make it whatever you want it to be. Hope this helps ease worries while still not sugar-coating the things which could be easily fixed to make this villa great.

    Perfect family villa

When booking this villa, we were a little concerned at the lack of positive reviews. We should not of had such concerns. This Villa had everything which was advertised and more. Clear instructions were given on arrival, with pictures, to collect keys and disarm alarm. A great safety feature. The Villa was clean and even warranted a Wow from our two teenage children. The Villa was modern and well equipped with a stunning swimming pool, downstairs chill out room, whirlpool bath etc. When we arrived there was a welcome pack, including water, wine and coffee which was a nice touch. All towels were provided for bath and pool. Yes this Villa is on the main road, but the small amount of traffic noise did not bother us at all. The walk into the Marina Rubicon was less than a 10 minute stroll with a range of restaurants. The beach was a 15 minute walk along a beautiful promenade. All in all, we could not fault this villa. It goes down as one of our best family holidays ever! The couple of small queries we had were answered very quickly by the extremely helpful Maria and sorted within hours. A great holiday had by all!! We would happily recommend this villa for anybody and hopefully we will return soon

    Horrible experience

The positives are: lovely large private pool, sauna, lots of space, BBQ facilities, semi pleasant staff, close to town centre and 10min walk to the beach and a small mall, secure and includes parking and high speed internet. Im a General Manager of a hotel and trust me when I tell you this property in no way is worth £1000 a week. Pictures are lovely but in reality it was very disappointing. First get ready to transfer a deposit before arrival into a bank account (very strange) we did it and it was returned so not an issue here. After that is completed you get bombarded with whatapp messages and when I say bombarded I mean bombarded. I received 42 messages in one day and then the same amount on arrival day and right after arrival. I had so silence their number to stop the constant messages. We arrived to a bad smell in the kitchen: it smelled like a dead bird. We found out fast that it was the dishwasher that was not cleaned after the last guest with maggots and pieces of rotten meat at the bottom of the dishwasher. It was so bad and disgusting I almost puked. Then we tried to use the coffee pot. Again it was not cleaned after the last guest and we found it with a filter filled with coffee that by then was growing white mould. The property send a cleaner the next day to sort these issues out next day After this discovery we inspected every dish in the house. Some utensils had to be washed and same goes for some pots. At this point we were so shocked considering the pandemic we actually cleaned the entire kitchen including the fridge which was also dirty, we then moved to clean the bathrooms and all surfaces inside and outside. Dust was everywhere and floors in the house were filled with crumbs. Dont get me started on what you will find under the beds. At a £1100 for a week I would expect a spotless villa during normal circumstances. During pandemic I would expected to be doubled in their cleaning efforts. This was not the case and I assure you it is also not the case during normal times. If you cant keep your villa clean during pandemic you will not have it clean during standard times. Cleaning was way below any par. We spend the first day of our holiday cleaning the entire villa ourselves. The villa does not look over the beach or the sea it is actually next to a busy road with a huge construction site across. Noise from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday. When I say noise I mean 4 huge cranes, tractors, trucks, banging and drilling, digging into the ground, levelling the entire hill and constructing what I assume is a huge hotel. I dont mind some noise but this was so loud the windows actually shake and you can see the vibration from the drills and industrial huge jack hammers effect the pool water. There was no warning about this at all and this will go on for at least another 2 years if not longer. Its a massive project. Dust from the site is everywhere including poolside furniture, patios, tables, BBQ and pool. Very very very unpleasant if you are trying to relax and not being warned about this is a huge failure on the side of the provider. Again another reason why this is not worth £1100 a week. This is sadly not it. Cheap French curtains in the rooms broken, bulbs burnt out, fridge drawers broken, some appliances broken. Now get this they ask you to wash all your dishes but they do not provide you with dish soap or dishwasher tabs. They informed us we must get them ourselves. In fact they ask you to keep the place clean but there is no cleaning products nor tools to clean with. So they give you a bottle of wine and fruit on arrival but dont provide the necessary things like cleaning products. If you are unlucky and book this place make sure you get toilet paper on your way there. You will only find one roll and again you are asked to get more yourself. Despite all these issues for a place that is clearly not worth £1100; When we asked if we could have the pool heating on they quoted us £100 for this. Absolutely ridiculous. Hospitality and customer service is non existent with this place. This property should not be listed on any site as a guest accommodation option. Please take my warning seriously. Im a hotel GM with 22 years behind my belt and I would not touch this with a stick. Sadly I trusted the photos and a few good reviews most likely provided by their own friends. The property has so much potential, all thou it is very dated. Obviously the owners dont care about cleaning standards nor do they understand hospitality and surly they dont care about your experience at all. They know that: once you are there you are trapped as it is hard to find a property last minute on an island, not to mention dealing with refunds and disputes can take a long time and its not what you want to do while on holiday. Avoid this place, it is not suitable for guests in its current state and its really sad as it could be so great. I will have to file a formal complaint with the Spanish health ministry and include my string of videos and photos of the property. There was no extra health standards followed, no extra cleaning or disinfecting done to protect their guests, in fact their cleaning was way way way below the par, add to this construction site, lack of trained customer service, broken appliances, rotting old food, no basic cleaning supplies or toilet paper, dust everywhere and noise 6 days a week. I dont write reviews often but I really felt I must warn people about this place. If you have questions about this villa or location that you would like to have answered or if you would like to see photos and videos of all these issues dont hesitate to ask me. Ill gladly answer. Hospitality and travel is my passion and has been for years and Im always here to ensure my guests or clients have a phenomenal experience. Ill gladly help you. There is plenty of other places to choose from in Playa Blanca dont make the mistake of choosing this one.
