  Super Quiet, Well Run, Huge Rooms, Eager-to-Please Staff.

  I stayed at "The Famous" Hotel Bago in early July along with 3 other Expat Engineers. Check in is easy and informal...copy your passport and then they take you via Golf Cart to your room. The rooms are "Motel" style...if you have wheels, you can drive right up to each room. Rooms are huge with hardwood floors...beds are OK...dedicated per room air con is sufficient...TV has lots of channels...you gotta figure out the electrical outlets: There is one type of surge stabilizer for the bar fridge and another type for the TV/Decoder. Somewhere, the coffee kettle fits in. Power cuts are chronic during (daytime) working hours for the nearby Garment Factories, but the complex has a giant generator (near the front gate) that purrs away most of the time...if you do not like being lulled to sleep by a purring generator, ask for a room further away. WiFi is functional...just be patient or buy a $10 2GB Oorreedo SIM card to turn your phone into a HotSpot...not fast, but OK. Pool is interesting but seeming un-used. The restaurant staff are super eager to please...If not sure what you want, wander back into the kitchen and point to what looks good. Check out can be confusing: Rooms are paid in US CASH, everything else in Kyat...give the front desk staff lots of time to sort out the accounting before heading off. We paid (in July 2016) US$ 45/night/room all in and $30 for the "taxi" to Yangon Airport. English can be a challenge...there is one guy at the Front Desk 8-5 who is OK. Otherwise, you may want to write down your request and the staff will figure it out...BE PATIENT. If you want cheaper drinks/snack-food, just wander out the front gate, turn right, walk 80m, bear right and there is a store cum pool table place that has the basics. TIPS: 1. "House" flies are everywhere in droves..I found that my 4 dollar electric mosquito burner (I carry it everywhere) discourages them. 2. Housekeeping Staff are "fresh" and tend to keep the room door open while cleaning=flies...Solution: Put the DND sign on your door when going out and tell the Owner (Muang) that you do NOT want the room cleaned...then call for whatever you need replaced when you return. 3. The Bago climate is "sticky" hot...if you want a cool room when you return (from a brief outing), close all the curtains, set the air con on high, and put up the DND sign. 4. Carry along a pack of Lomotil (poo-poo-pills) and a roll of toilet paper during your outings... 5. DO try to "interface" with Mr. Muang...keep his mobile# handy...he is a very helpful person. 6. Do NOT expect too much for the FREE breakfast...check for the "best before" dates on anything perishable...or try to find the "Chef" (in the kitchen) who may whip up something special for you...TIPS do not seem to be expected, but a friendly conversation and a couple hundred Kyat go a long way. :) 7. There is a cavernous "Hall" due South of the Restaurant where "things go on" at night...Karaoke...who knows what else....if you are light sleeper, choose a room a little more removed. 8. The Rooms' Front Porches are wonderful...so quiet...watch the Honey Bees doing their work...We stayed in the block with room numbers of 3xx. 9. I am not sure if this property is EVER full (perhaps on long weekend holidays??), so take the time to check out your room location options, if you plan to spend some time here.

  Nice Property, but average rooms

  Rooms are large and clean, Nothing fancy. AirCon was working. Bathrooms shower was weird. This room had a large bathroom with open shower on open side of the wall and the drainage was on the other side where the toilet was so water was everywhere and took a while to drain out, plus the whole bathroom floor gets wet and could be hazzard even with rubber slippers. Breakfast was ordinary nothing fancy. Staff extremely helpfull and courteous They had a baby bear in the cage on the property for view. Not sure why.

  Quick getaway from Yangon during Thingyan holiday

  Spent 3 nights here during Thingyan holiday, we were pretty happy with the price even during peak season (50$/night) and that it's not too far from Yangon either. The room is spacious. AC works just okay. Clean bathroom, but slippery floor and yes, weird placement of shower stand. The downside of all were the restaurant and the swimming pool. All the other guests were allowed to swim without bathing suit. During breakfast, food were not refilled as if the guests just had to be happy with whatever left on the table. Tablecloth were dirty and stained. Stayed the same during the 4 days of our stay. And worst of all, the cutlery were placed ON that very stained tablecloth. The floor wasn't swept, window and glass door were dirty. Food was cheap and surprisingly tasty. I am sure they loaded the food with MSG. I may come back for the quite place. But not sure about the food. May be just need to roam around the city to find another place to eat but we just didn't go out during the holiday as we couldn't stand the heat.

  Lay out and location

  Hotel room air condition is directly over the bed. Risky to sleep with the air con vent on you the whole night. There are lots of space in the room to install the air con.Breakfast and food from the restaurant sucks. Location of the hotel is outside of town, so commuting to business takes time. WiFi is available but extra slow that it is not connected full time.

  Internet is very very bad. Rest of the things are ok. if u wish to get good internet at the hotel, famous hotel is not the right place for that. Wifi is very slow and always getting dropped. Im staying there since June 2018, however up to date there is no improvement. Rooms are ok, They dont have a buffet breakfast.
