Staying at Hostellerie de la Maronne was the highlight of our sixteen days in France.

Hostellerie de la Maronne is a destination hotel. It is beautiful inside and out. Our rooms were clean, decorated beautifully and ours had its own terrace. The pool is wonderful. The gardens on the grounds are lovely and the view of the area is also lovely. We enjoyed the living room area on the main floor, which is set up for chess and other games, where we played games and planned our next day's hikes. The location is great. It is close to Salers and hiking. We ate dinner one night on-site, on the terrace, which was fabulous. All five of us would give it a five star rating for dining. The service was phenomenal and extremely professional. The owner is very friendly and nice. We all loved our two nights there!

Bees in the room and a rude owner

I stayed at Hostellerie de la Maronne with my boyfriend for two nights. We were in the Cantal for his brother's wedding and several other couples from the wedding party (including the bride and groom) had reserved rooms here. When we arrived, the hotel owner said that our reservation had been cancelled (despite the fact that we had an email confirming the reservation) and was very vague about how he was going to handle this problem. (I don't get the impression that the people running this place have a very good handle on technology). He managed to find us a room for one night and mentioned that we may have to stay in an inferior room off-site for the second night. The hotel is very beautiful from the outside but the rooms were really not clean. One of the couples from the wedding party discovered that there was a beehive in their room (room number 4, I believe) and brought it to the attention of the proprietor. The wife was at least 7 months pregnant and understandably did not feel comfortable sleeping in a room full of bees. When the proprietor failed to clear the bees out, the couple made a fit about it, to which the proprietor replied "it's nature". The proprietor then became agressive with the husband and there was a slight physical altercation. The couple left that night and found a room for the rest of their stay at Hotel de la Poste in a nearby village. The next night, the proprietor actually had the nerve to give the room with the beehive in it to the newly wed couple on their wedding night! He claimed there was no other room available, despite the fact that each of us had reserved moths in advance. I was a bit shocked by this experience, considering the fairly good reviews this hotel gets online. When my boyfriend and I took a closer look at the trip adviser and booking.com reviews, we noticed that many of the good reviews seemed to be bots. There are many bad reviews for this hotel and the hotel owner has taken the time to respond in the most bizarre and nonsensical way to each one of them (listing, for example, what was eaten by each guest at various meals). Avoid this hotel at all costs and opt for a nearby git, auberge, or literally any other hotel in the region!!!

    Falsely advertised

The Comfort Room Valley View room at the hotel Hostellerie de la Maronne is not as described on the booking website. The size, description and photos of the room was inaccurate. Management was rude and unhelpful to us.

Lovely and good value; cook is extremely accomodating of special diets

Located 15-min away from Salers, the resort is both beautiful and peaceful. And even while the hotel was full, the place is large enough for guests to have complete privacy and quiet. Our room was very spacious. Special note that unlike many other places, they accommodated my diet and cooked a delicious diet friendly meal without Judgment. I also found it good value considering the quality of services and exceptional environment. On the downside, our shower did not work, but the bathtub was nice. And the beds could be upgraded.

    A hotel of two halves!

Strange there are no reviews on here for 2019! Stayed here for two nights. Our room was large with a small but adequate bathroom. Half the towels were changed the second day and the bath has a hand held shower. The air conditioning worked well and was quiet. The hotel is set in beautiful countryside near to some picturesque villages. It is beautifully decorated with interesting items. Salers is close by which is a tourist town with many restaurants some of which are very expensive! Due to the owners wife recently having a medical problem only the first 20 booked each day can eat in their restaurant. We had a two course meal for 28 which was adequate and found a much better three course meal in Salers for 29 the next night. Breakfast at 12 I think is very over priced. We went in about 9.15 and no effort had been made to replenish what was on offer. There was on English tea, the closest being Ceylon black tea. I had two pieces of bread, butter and jam and a cup of tea. BUT our biggest problem was with WiFi. It is advertised as being available but it was very, very poor, even in the public areas where we were told to go! It was very intermittent in our bedroom and I gave up trying. We often use WiFi to organise our itinerary so I had to use my phone instead which costs me money. To say the staff were disinterested and dismissive is an understatement. Its a shame, these things spoilt our stay and what could be a lovely hotel. Maybe more staff may help! I would not stay here again.
