    Useless restaurant

We arrived at the hotel at 17.30 and booked a table for dinner at 20.00. When we went down for dinner it was obvious that there wasn't any space for us and the maitre d' said that it would be 15 minutes before one was free. We left it for 30 minutes and there was still no table available. We were told to sit in the reception lounge but after 10minutes we went out for a pizza! This is the first time we have stayed in a logis and not been able to eat there or made welcome. This is why they are so good. Good food with the accommodation. We will neither stay here again nor recommend it.

    Unfriendly reception

I have never been into a hotel anywhere in the world and met with such an unwelcoming receptionist and for the record she is NOT English but from Rochester, New York. She just rattled off in her fluent french with appalling accent the times for breakfast and dinner, gave us the keys and said we were on the third floor. Our room was OK, old furniture and tiny bathroom which was clean. The bed was hard. However, on the second morning there was no hot water. We reported this on check out, to a different receptionist who went off, came back shrugged her shoulders and said it broken down and that it wasn't normal. That's OK then! Our friends had bare breeze blocks in their room, a larger bathroom which was new and clean. We had the set evening meal at 20 euros for 3 courses which was only OK. Our friend asked for an omelette instead of the 3 meals offered but our 'happy' receptionist told him they were full and far too busy! They were far from full. Breakfast was 8 euros each and very basic. Each place was laid out with a piece of bread and a croissant. There was some cereal, dried fruit, a few pieces of fresh fruit and usual drinks. There were some slices of bread to toast. The place needs a face lift and change of receptionist! I would not stay here again.

    Faulty Towers in France

Reception unfriendly(she is American, not English) . No hot water, mentioned it to reception, no apology. Don't have the breakfast, one croissant, one piece of bread and dried fruit do not add up to 8. The evening meal was poor and the choice on desert was only two items. Our friends room had exposed breeze blocks on one wall. Swimming pool and jacuzzi were both cold. Luckily most Logis hotels are better than this.

Hiking, eating, sleeping. All just right at the Regina.

This was our second visit to the Hotel Regina and La Bourboule. The town is a spa town, one with the spa facilities for folks taking "the cure". Many visitors do visit the Spa. The town has a very nice large park and very pretty plantings along the Dordogne River which flows through. The people at the town's information center are very helpful and many hiking trails lead out and about and are fairly well marked. (We enjoy hiking to a place for lunch and then returning to the hotel for a hot bath and nice dinner.) The Hotel Regina suited us quite well. We stayed 3 nights in late September, 2014, and we chose the hotel because we had enjoyed the hotel and the owners when there on a prior trip. On the first trip we looked at several rooms, as they do vary. This time we asked for the same room we had first time. It is a very nice room overlooking the front where the Dordogne River flows between the roads on either side of the river. It was quiet. We had a comfortable large bed, and a separate bath room with a really large nice bath tub to ease the muscles from our long hikes. There was room for a ladies essentials in the cabinet below the sink. The Wi Fi connections were explained and worked well. (There is a need to log in again if not used for a long time.) The dining room was most pleasant. The 20 Euro special menu was fine each night. (I believe the Michelin Guide gives them the 2 coins for value for money meals.) 4 courses including cheese and dessert and the service was prompt. Dinners satisfied the appetite developed on the hikes. We enjoyed our breakfasts with ample coffee and the fresh croissants and bread and the other French Breakfast items. We also ordered Eggs and cheese for a small supplement and the eggs were cooked very well. The breakfast service also was solicitous of our wishes. We found the owners (a French husband and his American wife) to be very pleasant and useful for our daily adventures in the mountains around La Bourboule and Le Mont Dore which is just up the road. They were also very helpful with choosing the meals at dinner and were very flexible with substitutions. The wine list is varied. We definitely will be back again!

    Incredibly helpful

We stayed in the hotel with a group of motoring enthusiasts and had a great time. The owners and staff helped us beyond measure when my wife had a medical crisis. They all provided much help and support. They looked after my car in their parking area for the next 10 days without charge. We found them very friendly and warm. The room, dining room and amenities were very good. We would visit again.
