Stylish hotel/motel in a slightly remote location.

When we arrived by minivan near the Surathani market none of the tuktuk drivers knew where the Janrapat Resort was! I had not been able to print out the map that was available with our online booking. Nor did I have the resort's phone number. In desperation we went to the reception desk of a nearby hotel, the Tapee and 2 very helpful lady receptionists managed to locate the hotel on Google and organised a tuktuk for us. The Janrapat is a picturesque, Swiss style motel/hotel and our spacious room was worth the slight hassles we had been through in finding it. The whole resort is decorated in a romantic baroque fashion and our room was painted a shade of light lime green with a mural of a flowering tree with 2 white doves on one wall. Possibly a little over the top, but a very pleasant and spacious room with an excellent bathroom, plenty of cupboard space, fridge and a small desk. The grounds were very attractive and nicely manicured. We didn't actually use any of the spa facilities which were in a separate block but I'm sure just like our room everything would have been very stylish and clean. Breakfast was included in our tariff and was very good with Asian and western choices available. During our stay the hotel restaurant was not open at night and it was a little difficult to find a restaurant nearby. All we could find in our immediate vicinity was a little Thai eatery with some basic choices. Using a mixture of sign language and my very basic Thai we were able to order a Pad Thai noodle dish and a chicken curry - and 2 beers! We found in Surat Thani that not much English was spoken away from the ferry terminal area. The male receptionist who was there when we arrived had limited English but later on with a change of shift there was a young lady who could speak excellent English. We were lucky to find a pleasant quiet hotel with a beautiful room but the Janrapat resort is probably best suited to those with a car, as it was a 3km or more walk into town.

    Very photogenic

This place was very pretty in a residential type area. The walls are thin and therefore the barking dog across the street interrupted our sleep as did some music from off the premises and the birds in the morning. I arranged for a taxi because I did not see any sitting around the area. They told me 800 BHT was the price to the train station. Considering it is 140 BHT from our hotel in Bangkok to the DMK airport (much farther) I could see it was too much money. But I relented because I had no alternative. It turned out the guy behind the counter took me in his personal vehicle. I feel ripped off because of this. The food was rather spartan and there was a little mini mart down the road that had chips and a few other snacks. From what I read about other places in Surat Thani, this place was acceptable. At least we did not have to manually fill the toilet from a pail like the hotels nearer the train station.

Quaint resort, but long way from other attractions

It's a nice place, but there are some VERY loud birds early in the morning - ear plugs are a must. Locks on the bathroom doors are on the outside, which is a bit pointless. Free wifi though and nice car port next to room. Be warned, the address goes to the wrong place on Google maps - lucky my Thai girlfriend could phone the receptionist for directions.

    Stylish and Photogenic hotel

This hotel was unexpected location so far, I never knew there is a nice and stylish hotel in the city. But it is quite far away from downtown especially for a tourists that doesnt have their own car. Because they dont have car service as well, the room was very clean and very stylish, suitable for who loves taking photo(my girl friendd love to) and private as well. I would recommend this place for who love private, stylish and you should have your own car. Peace,
