    Fantastic, tradidional experience

We loved our stay here, the second time around for swveral of us. The hosts, Mieko and her husband, are absolutely wonderful. Mieko explained everything we needed to know about the hotel and skiing access. There is an Onsen on site (men and women batge separately) and an explanation of how to use it. The breakfasts are a triumph: traditional food as well as freshly made pancakes, bacon and eggs and toast. The place is spotless and very efficiently run. The Akakura slopes are at your back door (less than 10 mins walk) and an easy shuttle bus ride away Mt Myoko (Suginohara). There are genuine Japanese bedrooms available: very warm and clean. You can request an air mattress if you're mirw comfortable on that. Thoroughly recommeded - We'd come again, just to stay at this wonderful hotel.

Shhhh .. keep this magical experience a secret!

Attracted by the on-site onsen, we booked this accommodation quite by accident. We were not expecting to experience the traditional Japanese hospitality and exquisite personalised breakfasts and dinners at all. The staff are all extremely helpful and ever so polite. Around every corner of the hotel youll find something on display showcasing the respect that Japanese people have for books, nature and each other. The onsen is the perfect cure for any snow/ski-related soreness and relaxing at the big fireplace prepares you for a good nights sleep. Come prepared to indulge in a very different culture for maximum enjoyment. Breakfast meals are quite big, and dinners are even bigger (think 4- to 5-course meal) - but absolutely worth the experience. The hotel provides futon style beds, yukuta and slippers to wear when inside and the small towels required for using the onsen. It is warm, but not hot, inside, but we found even on the coldest nights without the heating on that the rooms stayed warm and a blanket wasnt even necessary.

Fantastic property, amazing service and close to ski areas. Meiko san is brilliant!

We stayed here as a group of 7 (5 rooms) at the end of January 2020. We had an amazing time. The hotel is older Japanese style, with tatami room and comfortable futons, good heating, a drying room, a ski room, wonderful indoor and outdoor onsen. We were lucky to have a larger room with a separate living area. Well located in the lovely town, waking distance to Akakura Onsen Resort lifts, a short bus trip to Akakura Kanko Resort and Suginohara Resort (plus others we did not go to) providing a wonderful variety of skiing. The hotel sells discount vouchers for daily lift passes to all resorts. In addition to this, Meiko san made restaurant reservations for us, and we also ate at the hotel twice - the course dinner is a must and is exceptional. We also enjoyed pizza and ramen as a casual dinner in the bar area - perfect for a drink at the end of the day, or enjoying some time by the log fire. The bar sells drinks from 4-7pm, and outside these hours you can take your own drinks and snacks to the bar. There are a number of convenience stores where you can purchase wine, beer, spirits and lots of great snacks. All is quite convenient as the town is quite small. There was a lot of coordination, transfer of luggage, train tickets, lift passes to various places, pick ups, restaurant bookings etc - which Meiko san pre-empted what we might need, and did so much to assist. I would definitely stay there again, and would recommend to others without a doubt.

    Japan Ski

This was our first time to Japan skiing and we couldnt have asked for a better place to stay!! If there is a more hospitable host in Japan than Meko I havent met them yet. Great staff, awesome spot, helpful, its own Onsen, we had a great room basically the complete package.

    Snowboarding Myoko

The hospitality of the staff was exceptional. Very helpful, hard working & always available to assist with questions & recommendations. Onsite onsen is wonderful after a big day on the snow. The location is perfect, close to everything & ski lift. Prompt pick up & shuttle service. Highly recommend.
