Decidedly "meh"Had a 1 night stay and spa as a break from kids after christmas so was really looking for a relaxing night. The hotels location is beautiful but the hotel itself looks tired and dated. Room was a nice size with a good view but the shower was broken and couldn't have the temp changed. No other rooms were available so I was advised I could have a shower in the gym which wasnt really what i wanted. The pool was cold due to a fault and the actual pool/spa building was very disappointing. Stark white souless building and bright lighting. Absolutely no relaxing atmosphere and I was suprised there was no jacuzzi. Hardly luxury spa standard! Evening meal and breakfast was lovely and staff were very friendly. Very average experience overall and we wont be returning.

Not COVID safe. Cleaning staff are incompetent and standards are non-existent.I don't typically write reviews but this case was exceptional. Being a key worker, I was travelling for business during COVID. I knew that no food was being served so I was just expecting a decent, clean room and a pleasant stay. I was one of only a few guests staying here and on my second night I'm almost positive there were only 2 or 3 other guests on site. First impressions were good but once I inspected the room properly I was distressed to discover that the bathroom was dirty. There was hair in the sink and the bath and a brown substance in the sink that I originally thought was just a stain but came off once I touched it. The receptionist apologised and then explained that the room hadn't properly been cleaned because no one of the 5 staff members at the hotel were part of the cleaning crew (something I would have thought would be basic considering the pandemic). What was worse was that before I entered the room there was a seal on the door to confirm it had been cleaned, meaning someone had been in to check and thought it was acceptable. This ruined the whole trip as I could no longer be certain how clean the rest of the room/hotel was. The hotel also lock the doors at all times of the day. Being locked inside the hotel was a new and unpleasant experience for me and I had to call an extension line at reception (because the desk is not manned) in order to reach someone to let me out. Then when I came back from work there was still no one at the reception. 2 numbers were displayed on the main entrance door, both of which I tried to call several times without any answer. Eventually I managed to get in, after which I began using the patio door to enter and exit the hotel. If I could give this hotel zero I would but 1 star will have to suffice. This hotel is not COVID safe. Do not stay here.

Amazing staffThe grounds are so beautiful and the hotel itself is gorgeous. It is a clean and spacious environment and it was honestly the perfect way to begin a relaxing three day break. The part that really stood out to me were the staff. I have stayed in a lot of places but the level of care, friendliness and professionalism demonstrated by all staff during my stay is unparalleled. All questions I asked were answered by knowledgeable staff and they were very accommodating. I wanted to add an Elemis treatment to my spa experience but due to it being so busy they couldn't do this on the day however, they did offer for me to split the one hour freestyle massage into a 30 minute back massage and a 30 minute Elemis treatment - I was so happy with this offer and took it immediately. I also have some unusual allergies however, this was already taken into consideration by the staff when providing our afternoon tea. My only regret is that I didn't get any of the staff member's names to write a personal note of thanks. The food is to a very good standard and is reasonably priced. They have a three course set menu (but the option of about 3 different starters, 4 different mains and 3/4 different desserts) for £25.
