Overpriced, but not the worst place I've stayed.

I remember this place from 15 years when it was such a beautifully kept upmarket hotel and restaurant. Now it's very tired and run down which is such a shame because it wouldn't take much to bring it back to something lovely. Outside the grass and gardens are very overgrown and untidy. The room itself was $135.00 for a queen bed and while it was pretty clean, it's in desperate need of attention. The carpet is very stained, the drapes torn and the drape and rod fell on hubby when he tried to close it. But the bed was comfortable and we were warm.

The person at reception was friendly & helpful. The accommodation itself needs some TLC. While bed was comfortable & our room was quiet we found somethings quite frustrating. We should have phoned reception to rectify the issues but we're busy & got back late. Some attention to the kitchen component of apartment is needed. No tea towel, plug or liquid to wash dishes. 1 fork between 2 people. Hot plates but nothing to use on them. More motel room than self contained apartment. If your after a bed & shower it is fine but if you need a kitchen, book elsewhere.

    Overpriced and disappointing

We drove to Melbourne to attend a number of dog shows, as we have many many times before. Having stayed here on a previous occasion (10 years ago), this hotel is conveniently located for our needs. We travel with a dog trailer, and always make the hotel aware of the car parking we require. On arrival, we were met by a man who just took our payment, with no interest in checking ID, getting a contact phone number, car license plate etc - just taking the money. We were charged $155 per night which seems far more than the standard rate other guests who have reviewed, have paid. We were directed to room 1, which is directly behind the office/restaurant, in the back corner. There is no designated car park for room 1, let alone room for a car and trailer. The storage area for the restaurant/hotel and possibly the owners living quarters were directly adjacent to our room, and were in a terrible state of disorganization and cleanliness - and the area had been partially covered by a ripped old sheet that didn't actually shield the view of their mess at all. Although the bed appeared to be clean, and was comfortable, the bathroom had not been cleaned and still contained all the previous guests empty shampoo / conditioner bottles, and rubbish. We stayed for 3 nights, and not once were our rooms serviced, beds made, bins emptied, towels replaced, or extra bathroom supplies (soap etc) replenished. The external bins across the whole hotel were not emptied, and we're overflowing with rubbish. We were left no other alternative with regards to parking, to reverse our trailer in to the park in front of rooms 2 and 3. Even with the motel being barely half full, they then allocated room 2 to another guest who had to park in front of room 5, and had our dog trailer right in front of their room. Luckily our dogs are well traveled, and didn't make a noise all night. On the last night, the large rubbish/skip bins were emptied during the middle of the night by a truck with its reversing keepers blaring and a lot of banging and noise following. This has been, by far, the worst accommodation experience we have had in 35 years of travelling around Australia. For $155 per night, we would have expected far better. For $155 per night, we would have expected

    Avoid if possible

This hotel is very tired and sad. The rooms are smelly and run down, with broken tile floor. It is said to be self contained but there are no pots or pans to use on the stove. As all are ground floor, there are concerns with security. No breakfast, nor an option for a breakfast pack. Surprisingly enough the restaurent is OK and the calamari one of the best I have ever tasted.

    Murder scene

I wish I could ad the photos I have taken of our $150 room. Three walls have multiple punch holes with plaster patches on them but no paint. One door has been smashed in with plaster attempts on it. You immediately get the vibe that someone was aggressive in this room and someone was very badly hurt. Kitchen cupboard has bad moulding loaves of bread in it. Definitely a health hazard. Shower plumbing has a sound like the earth is going to swallow you up. So loud that you prefer not to shower. We were booked over Xmas and no choice but to stay. If it wasnt Xmas Eve and Xmas Day we would have left. I think its one of those places that the government help people straight out of prison or escaping DV. They all need somewhere to go but I didnt feel safe, with the guy in the room next to me, coming over at 11pm to tell me what he wants to do to the mother of his children who is cheating on her. I could still hear him going off at 4:30am through the brick walls. Do you yourself a favour and pay the extra to stay at The Settlement around the corner. One plus was that the staff are nice.
