  Very basic

  Room was OK although terrible smell in bathroom, which seemed to be coming from a drain. Bed was comfortable and cleaning was fine. Expired chips in the mini bar. Wi-fi was patchy, was given 500MB for my stay and had to purchase more. Hotel reception area and outside seemed to be used as a lounge/communal area by the staff's family. Breakfast was free but inconsistent - one day eggs were offered, another day it was fruit, cornflakes and toast. The next- no cereal or eggs, toast only. Not the best place to stay but for the price it was fine, and I'm not sure for the money that you would get any better.

  Lovely large room

  If you appreciate Chinese decor and cuisine then this is your place to stay. We found the staff extremely helpful at a time of stress over airline distruptions and enjoyed a beautiful meal but missed any desert being offerred on the menu. The room was spacious and loved the king size bed. Unfortunately, despite assurances to the contrary, we were kept awake by the ubiquitous traffic, dog and rooster sounds!

  If you want China in Tonga, this is your place

  Didn't really pay attention to the reviews and now sort of regret it. Trip started out well: was picked up by the property manager and head of housekeeping, both of whom were lovely. They made sure I had enough internet, which was deeply appreciated and why they get 3 vs. 2 stars. Arrived late and was forced to eat in the onsite Chinese restaurant, which was meh at best and I was treated to the sight and smell of drunken Chinese businessmen stupid with bai jio. Having worked in China for 15 years, it was like every $50/night Chinese business hotel I'd ever stayed in, right down to the furniture and fixtures. And that's who they are catering to--the Chinese who now dominate the mercantile sector of Tonga. If that's what you're looking for, knock yourself out. Otherwise go elsewhere. Hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was coffee in the room, but drinking water costs $$. Fortunately, I had brought a portable filter so did not need to add to Tonga's plastic pollution problem. Definitely would NOT stay here again.

  Agoda and Meida Hotel Awful - they charged me $655 for a stay I never took!

  I have recently been to Tonga on a Volunteering trip to build a Coconut and Vanilla Oil processing plant to aid the local economy and provide jobs to the locals in Vava'u. We were initially going to go via Tongatapu Island and so I booked this hotel through Agoda. I did not receive email confirmation. There was a cancellation policy which I accept but I got no reminders that the booking was active nor was coming up and then I got charged $655 on my credit card. On contacting both the hotel and Agoda, I received no help from either and neither were willing to refund all or even part of the amount despite a complete lack of communication around this booking. I will never use either ever again

  Avoid, until they sort the place out

  The Media Hotel that was advertised was hugely disappointing and did not match up to the specifications on the website. On the day of arrival 9th October the reception had not received my booking even though I had paid and received a confirmation from Hotel.com. I was placed in room 101 which was not cleaned and was noisey due to its location next to a main road. There was no wifi reception in that room. The following day I was placed in room 202. The room was not cleaned, but merely made up, there was a dirty spoon, dust in the corners, and later a very disturbing foul smell was eminating from the shower room drain which was left uncovered. I again alerted the reception and after coming to see the room he admitted there was another room with similar issues. I was again moved to another room 105. This room was not cleaned either but unfortunately as there were no other rooms and the other hotels were booked. The website is misleading. The wifi was patchy, there isn't a restaurant attached to the hotel, it closed down. The flat screen TV has maybe 5 basic channels(not really an issue as most of my time was spent outside). The whole stay was absolutely disappointing. The staff were helpful and apologetic the whole time.
