Comfortable if you can overlook the details

Location is excellent (albeit noisy), overlooking the main seaside road and a short walk from Raml Station, with the rooms on the front of the building directly facing the waterfront with a view of a castle in the distance. Not all rooms have actual balconies (despite what it says on one website I read!), and ours at least did not have any heat (quite chilly in March), although it did have air conditioning. The decor exudes faded old-world charm; if you can overlook peeling paint outdoors and small holes in the sheets and towels, it is generally quite cute and comfortable, and scrupulously clean. Check in supposedly from 12, but upon my arrival at 12:30 room was not ready till 1. Had booked a triple room but was initially told that room would not be available until the next day and they would instead put a cot on the floor of the double room they were giving us; fortunately before nightfall they moved us to the triple room. Elevator appears to be from about 1910 and sometimes doesnt work (the hotel is on the second floor above ground level). Cafe in the bottom of the building (associated with the hotel) has good food and fair prices, also ability to deliver room service (although one time they took about 45 minutes to deliver soup and a milkshake). Security seems a bit questionable as some rooms lock with ancient skeleton keys, and as there is only one key per room, if you and your roommate separate you are instructed to simply hang your room key at the usually-not-physically-attended front desk. That said, the main door to the hotel is locked and must be opened by the overseer (which could be a terrible fire hazard as its sometimes unopenable from the inside without the key!), so probably the only people going past are the occupants of the approximately seven rooms which comprise the hotel... and in point of fact, once I figured out that the series of different men hanging around were actually all hotel overseers, I felt very safe. Staff were friendly and helpful.

    Very bad

They have a very bad attitude, many times I paid for a sea view room and I got a side view. They have very bad customer service. The room should be renovated, only one lamp is working. There were ants in the bed.

    Horrible Manager!

Booked over the phone after long struggle to reach them. The guy who answered confirmed the booking is confirmed for a double air conditioned room with a pvt bathroom...when i arrived i found the housekeeping lady alone and to be honest shes the best thing there..she called the so called manager for me and he said there is no booking and he was overly RUDE to an extent that i couldnt bear his lack of respect and threw the phone out of shock! Then took mom n left..Ive been to many low cost small hotels in Alexandria and have never experienced such treatment...being a low cost hotel or hostel does not mean that you speak with disrespect and insult your clients!! Would NEVER EVER recommend it to anyone.

    The heritage

Wonderful oceanic view .. the spacious family room is very good with it's small terrace and private bath .. friendly house keeping and operator.. the classic salon at the reception was a lovely playback smelling the scent of heritage and the treasures of old Alexandtia.

    Sneaky room up charge

Arrived here later at night and was told I was sent a message, which of course I couldnt receive without WiFi. (And When I did check WiFi I discovered I never was sent any message, it was of course another Egyptian scheme). The manager said he needed to know what time we were arriving (we werent sure as buses are often delayed) and because we arrived late we were forced to upgrade to a more expensive room. We tried to say no thats not what we reserved and why would our reservation go away (we still arrived on the same day as reservation was made) but he didnt budge, not even for a free breakfast. On top of that their card machine wasnt working so we were forced to hand over a wad of cash and rack up the atm withdrawal fee yet again. The room itself was antique style and very cute but not enough blankets for frigid Alexandria. WiFi was just okay, barely worked. The cleaning lady was the best thing there
