  Volveré cuando esté climatizado.

  HOTEL SORELL MERIAN. BASILEA. Buena situación tocando a la orilla derecha o norte del Rin. Habitación muy muy pequeña, pero con nevera, con refrescos incluidos. Ducha con tela que se pega al cuerpo La sorpresa fue que no disponen de aire climatizado, ni gran ventilador zenital. La oferta es de un pequeño ventilador de mesa. Calor insoportable. Expresada la queja, nos compensan sin cobrarnos los 20 FS extras que cuestan las habitaciones mirando al Rin, en dos de las tres noches. Desayuno correcto.

  Very nice hotel on the Rhine in Basel

  Wonderful room overlooking the Rhine in Basel. Excellent breakfast especially the bread and jam. Very central location for shopping and wondering around old town. Right across the river from the city hall and marketplace.

  Superb location for couple but not family

  At the end of the Middle Bridge on the Rhine River, it is centrally located. Suitable for couples with not much luggage, but not suitable for family. Room tends to be rather by American standards, but tolerable by European standards. Has restaurant on site, freefast is free. Other restaurants are within walking distance, by walking across the Middle Bridge, or just stayed on same side. View gets A+, but overall I give it average.

  Perfect location for exploring the city!

  My first visit to Basel and I don't think I could have chosen a better located hotel - right on the riverside next to the Middle Bridge and with a tram stop just across the street. The reception staff were friendly and very knowledgable and I was soon upstairs inspecting my room; quite small (but not as small as some that I have stayed in!) but well fitted out with plenty of storage space for 1 person. The washbasin was actually in the room and fitten with a large mirror (and a small shaving mirror) and nice thick towels - unfortunately, no towel rail to hang your wet towels on though! The bed was comfortable but the pillow was a bit soft for me, however, a call to reception and another pillow was delivered. There is a "pillow menu" if you want to try different types of pillow. There's a good sized wardrobe, a comfortable arm chair and a good sized flatscreen TV with lots of channels to choose from and a coffee pod machine which also produces hot water for your tea (various tea bags and infusions are supplied). My window opened onto the street and there was a ventilator under the window which allowed fresh air into the room; there doesn't appear to be any air conditioning in the room apart from a small vent which lets air in above the doorway. The lighting in the room is good and the bedside reading light is excellent. The light over the washbasin mirror is not very bright and can make shaving a bit tricky! The shower and toilet are in a seperate room, with adequate lighting but there is nowhere to put your toiletries! By the way, the toiletries supplied are very good! The breakfast buffet was served in the Cafe Spitz which is a rather large dull room with dark wood wall panelling and floor, and dark wood tables and chairs which gives the room a rather gloomy appearance (which I thought was even worse at night with no light coming in the windows). However, the breakfast was good with a good selection of hot and cold food, lovely fresh bread and delcious preserves and pastries. On some days, the staff (all very friendly and pleasant) were a little slow in replenishing the food. My room was very quiet and I could not hear any noise from the adjacent rooms; the only noise that did disturb me was a service lift which seemed to operate at odd times during the night; there was a little noise from the street but but it didn't disturb me. I would recommend this hotel as it is in an ideal position to explore the old and new parts of the city and you can take some pleasant walks along the riverbank. There are several good restaurants nearby but you need to book them in advance as they fill up very quickly! The other thing that I liked about this hotel was that prior to my stay, I received an email telling me that they were looking forward to my visit and asking if there was anything that they could help me with; in all my years of booking accommodation, this is the first time that I have ever received such a note and it really made me feel welcome - a really nice gesture!

  Nice hotel, great location

  We stayed here for four nights in December 2019 to enjoy Christmas shopping in Basel and at the Christmas markets. The hotel is superbly located for exploring central Basel and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our room was on the top floor and had an 'attic' feel to it but it was a good size and felt really cosy. The decor was basic but very clean and comfortable, as was the en suite shower room. We were travelling with our two-year-old daughter so requested a travel cot in the room. The cot supplied was a really good size with nice bedding and an excellent mattress - much better than we have experienced in some other hotels. The staff had also left a Christmas stocking filled with goodies for our daughter - a really nice touch, which she loved! Breakfast was good although various items were frequently running low - ie most mornings they ran out of mugs for tea; eggs; fruit salad. The items were eventually replenished but this could take some time and it may have been more efficient if more had been put out in the first place. This was a very minor issue though. Over-all we had a lovely stay here and would certainly recommend it and return.
