Didn't stay here, but went into it to get an English speaking tour...

We stayed down the road at the Atrium, but went inside the Spasskaya Hotel to sign up for two English speaking tours in their tour office. This may be the only place in the city to get an English tour. I had a tour that my husband's interpreter found (he's from Moscow) but it turned out she was a freelance and her English and knowledge of the city wasn't great. So I went to the Spasskaya to find a better, more professional tour. I didn't go past the Spasskaya's lobby which is sort of dark looking and sits up higher than the front door. My freelance guide, who lives in Vologda, said this is considered the best hotel in the city. When booking my tours at the hotel, I spoke with one of the women in the office who speaks some English. She does better than my Russian, so we muddled along and I managed to get the tours I wanted. Because we were there in November, English speaking guides are tough to find as most work in schools and have full time jobs. I got two one-on-one tours. One for around the city's historical areas and museums and the other to the nearby monastery. The two guides I had were great and I learned a lot from them. Andrew, my driver for both tours, was a sweetie. He knows as much if not more than the guides about the city but doesn't speak English. But he was great at finding little known spots to tell my guides about.

    Fine

Stayed 2 nights in March in room 610. Beautiful view of the snowy Kremlin. Simple Soviet hotel, complete with Babushka on the landing all day and night. Quiet. Clean. Fridge and TV in room, good wifi. Bed looked uncomfortable but I actually slept very well. Lots of shops, cafes and services within the hotel complex. Unfriendly staff. Price is OK, would definitely consider staying again. Great location.

Poor for Russian standards, Terrible for Europian standards

At the very entrance you get impression you're entering a local residential building, not a decent hotel. Then you see it is actually a hotel for which managment didn't think that renewing old soviet standards would benefit. Receptionist is very official and cold. Rooms are of questionable hygiene. In bathroom you'll get nothing but some pink old towels, and a smallest bar of cheapest soap, and a small bag of cheapest shampoo. So bring your own stuff if you want to live there. There is a hot water available and I was happy for this. Bed had a worn thin mattress, terrible to sleep on. i was actually sleeping in a hole made by this old mattress. Curtains are light transparent, so in june, when there are "white nights", you can hardly adopt to daylight at night. When leaving a room, you can't just leave the key at reception, but search for a cleaning service lady who dwells sometimes on 7th, sometimes on 6th floor.... I was amazed by those invented inconveniences. Breakfast is happening in separate restaurant in the same building. You get there some cooked meals too, which I didn't prefer because I personally don't appreciate local Russia cuisine. This hotel did not provide rest and comfort on my business trip. I will certainly try different Hotel next time. This one I don't recommend to anyone.

    Will do

I stayed here in June this year on a business trip. The lobby is not a typical hotel lobby and the lady at the counter is not in hurry! You get the room key at your floor from the attendant but in my case she was not there and had to go to another floor for help. The cleanliness is so and so, internet so and so. The breakfast so ok. We did not eat dinner at the hotel.
