  Cold and dirty experience

  The Dongfang hotel may or may not have a license to accept foreigners. At first they refused to register me (a westerner) and told my Chinese business colleagues to take me to the police station to register my presence in town. Upon some negotiation in Mandarin, they agreed to let it slide and gave an extra room to my colleagues. They only accepted cash payment from me, but did accept credit cards from my Chinese colleagues. We arrived in late February with below freezing temperatures. The lobby and breakfast area had no heat, the rooms had minimal heat. I slept in my coat and hat to keep warm. The hot water in the sink worked occasionally, but never worked in the tub. Unplug your room phone if you don't want calls for protitution when you are trying to sleep. The safe in the room didn't work and so I got my camera stolen. On the plus side, the breakfast was an average buffet of Chinese cuisine, the TV worked, there was a hot water kettle in the room, at it is close to the train station and shopping. Our business associates in the area told us there are better places to stay.

  Decent location

  We booked this hotel for our trip to Maijieshan. The location was good, as bus 34 to Maijieshan stops right in front of the hotel. The hotel was also in the middle of a shoppingstreet, so there were plenty of places to eat. We didn't try the breakfast, because we left early. Bad thing about this hotel, they don't accept foreign creditcards, nor does the staff speak english. Also our confirmed booking via booking.com got refused by the hotel, luckily we did get the same room for the booking.com price. In general it is a decent hotel in a quite remote place.
