  A great place to stay in Upper Hutt

  I stayed here over three successive weekends in July 2020 for some work projects. I was really happy with the experience, and if I ever needed to stay again for a personal trip, I'd happily revisit. The first two stays were in rooms within the main building (the one where the reception is). The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Each room was warm (thanks to an excellent heatpump) and had great facilities like SkyTV, a comfy bed with plenty of blankets and pillows, and all the regular bathroom facilities you'd expect. The third stay was in the block at the rear of the property, and it turns out these are the much nicer (and larger) rooms. I also found that there was less sound leaking between rooms when in this rear block, and the shower was a lot better too. One of the best features was walking distance to two great restaurants. Although, some people may find the noise of the pub nearby to be slightly noisy sometimes, but it didn't mind me at all. The woodfired pizzes next door are amazing, and it's literately just a walk across the driveway.

  Great place to stay

  Stayed here for three nights with an associate for a conference. We both snore so the beds upstairs on the mezzanine floor was pure brilliance! Apart from that the motel is situated across from the railway station and the racecourse! Staff very friendly and the rooms very clean. Dined at the Tote bar next door for good pub meals. Will definitely stay here again if back in the area.

  Highly Recommend

  Stayed one night here while we attended a show. The room was ;perfect, clean/tidy/bed comfortable, spoilt with some little extras. Very easy to make booking and the receptionist was friendly and very helpful. Motor Inn in very quiet surroundings and safe car parking. Try this one and enjoy,

  Great room

  Stayed here for a Saturday night with a group from work. Easy check in and excellent room. Nice and clean. Great size with comfortable furnishings. Nice setting with courtyard. Plenty of parking. The Totara lodge would get a top rating if not for the late night loud music from the front bar. It woke up most of our group. Ruined a great night. I would happily stay here again but only on a quiet night.

  2 different stays

  We stayed there the first night and were quite happy with the accomodation and a restaurant available attached to the same building. That was great as we came from Taranaki and wanted to catch up over a meal with friends. The room was good and the staff very accomodating. So we choose to stay there on our return trip from the south island and booked in - not a problem. We arrived on that evening at 18.40pm and asked if the restaurant would still be available. (We understand that the hotel and restaurant are run by different owners) We were told that should not be a problem- we asked because it was Valentines Day and knew that it could have booked out. So we unpacked the car and had a very quick shower ( which resembled a fire hose) and went straight to the restaurant. By then it was 5 minutes past 19pm. We asked for a table for 2 and were told that the kitchen had closed at 19pm....the person in charge did not even bother to ask the kitchen.....even though there were customers sitting and still looking at the menu to order. Not impressed at all we left and had to take the car for a drive around to find a place to eat. We will definetly not back as the second stay was also spoiled by having a room not as well appointed as at the first stay and it was very noisy from early on in the morning. The staff there was lovely though.
