  Tired hotel, cleanliness not up to scratch

  The receptionist was friendly and the room we were offered was large. However upon closer inspection I didn't think it had the cleanliness levels one would expect for the price. There was mould on the ceiling in the bathroom, the floor looked shabby, things just looked a bit dusty and not polished. Granted we were in more of a rural area away from the city, but we found a total of six spiders in the room. Finally, I read a Google review while I was there that really made me feel uncomfortable. Which was that the hotel was unstaffed and that no staff were on site at night, and that a small number of guests had been left alone in this large hotel overnight. I would appreciate if management could get back to me on whether this is true or not, as this would certainly present a security issue.

  Terrible service

  I would not recommend you stay at this hotel, especially if you are holding an event or its a special occasion. The experience was totally ruined essentially by the manager who displayed utter contempt and rudeness to me and my group who attended with me. The rest of the staff were great and even embarrassed by the managers behaviour.

  Reasonable place to stay

  Stayed 2 nights when at conference in the city. Was given a better room because was quiet. I found all the staff very pleasant and helpful and the overall feel of the hotel was comfortable. Room was a good size and had a comfortable bed with pretty much everything you could want, except an iron. Its also a nice spot. Breakfast was good, I had a porridge and an eggs benedict, both were fine. Hotel might not be there long as had a planning notification to change to a nursing home and I suppose it isnt a surprise. Although I liked it there, for a business traveller with a morning start in Oxford, it was a nightmare. First day a taxi took 1hr 30 mins from pressing the order button, second day I walked the 3 miles! Overall a pleasant place to stay but stymied by the somewhat inconvenient location for the city.

  Not so clean.

  I booked this hotel for 1 night because of working in the area. The pictures on booking.com looked great. Unfortunately we never see the rooms pictured. My room was ok but the bathroom not so ok. It's all in the need for some cleaning. The bar area had a very damp smell. Food was nice a bit high in price and a bit small in portion. Staff were friendly and helpful. The overall price for this hotel once you add on your breakfast is a little steep.

  Locked out in the cold for two hours!!

  Me and my girlfriend found this hotel on the web looked all good and in our budget... arrived at the hotel on the Saturday and managed to get into our room around 2-3pm. Property is fine, nice and clean all settled in... we then decided to go out into Oxford for a bite to eat and a drink.. Firstly we had difficulties ordering a taxi through the hotel..for some strange reason all the local taxi firms were not answering or there was a problem at the the local exchange.. "was this a sign??" We patiently waited then stressed a bit that we were stuck unless i decided to drive...which was not the preferred option for obvious reasons...However hotel staff were very kind and offered to give us a lift to the city centre which we were more than pleased to accept... So arrived in Oxford City Centre... Eats, drinks decided it was about time to head back to the hotel.. So we jumped in a cab and headed back to the hotel... Arrived back to the hotel and attempted to use the set of keys that was given to us to open the front door.. Did any of the keys work...no they didn't!! There was a phone by the door with instructions to call the night manager if there is a problem... we attempted to call the night manager several times at no avail... we then decided to knock on the door to get attention from someone on reception...no luck there!! Bear in mind we were stuck unheated lobby area for nearly two hours.. and we certainly were not prepared to camp out in the freezing cold we resorted to bashing the door to get any form of attention.. and luckily a very bewildered couple came down a opened the door for us..!! This was now approx 2.30am! Thank you again that couple that saved our skins!! So in the morning we woke up, got our bags packed and wondered down to reception to hand our "frankly" useless set of keys back to the concierge and explain our issue that morning... she was a lovely lady and was very apologetic.. she explained that a night manager should of been on the other end of the phone to assist... but as we experienced this was unfortunately not the case... i explained that i was very a disgruntled guest and i wanted a explanation and apology and perhaps some for of compensation...she suggested we left out contact details with her and she would get in contact with the management. So since our stay.. which was Saturday 30th Dec 2019 i have not had any correspondence... i have attempted to call the hotel numerous times and left several voicemails.. i don't know if they have sorted out this key issue and so therefore on that principle i have decided to write this review because i do not want anyone else experiencing a similar thing to us... especially when its that cold!!
