    Spa day

We had a thoroughly wonderful day and now fully refreshed. This is a very nice setting with great staff, felt very safe and clean. I had a really good massage and went for the healthy club sandwich for lunch that went well with the house red. All the facilities are open and COVID safe. Will look forward to our next visit.

    Rebirth.

Emerging from my Covid incarceration like a shy hermit but without the ragged robe, I sought a little bit of tender love and care, with perhaps a nice meal or two on the side. Ten months since the glitz of our last break deep inside the St.James segment of the once bustling London, we selected Whatley Manor as the cure to our ills. One hundred and seventy-ish miles of hopeful anticipation and we arrived with a dusty flourish outside of the grandly named Room One, opposite the very attractive main entrance. Room One is perhaps near perfect for today's conditions. It is kind of a sweet little cottage, a Cotswold cottage with a huge bed, tea and coffee making stuff and packets of crisp. Being informed that our (Little cottage) would be untouched and not entered into throughout our three night stay, I wondered just what state it would be on our departure. I liked the upstairs lounge area and we decided not to use the second shower room because it looked so nice. Being left to our own devices has of course advantages . How many times has that knock on the door for turn down been met by a mad scramble for clothes just dressed in one sock and a smile. Enough of this chattering and getting to the point, we enjoyed our stay immensely, thank you team so very, very much. The buildings, the two different priced restaurants, the grounds, the spa and our sweet little Room One. And a special mention to the hot stone beds and that strange creature in the hot stone bed room. What is it and can hot water be piped into it for next time? All in all our short stay was the perfect tonic for today's blues. Thank you very much Whatley Manor and just one little tip for the adventurous, don't think that you can find a route to the Roman Road (Fosse Way) by going through the bee hives. Ouch!

    Good and bad

We had some issues with our meal on night one but to be fair Atillah sorted this out. Beautiful Spa, nice bedroom and the lady who served the drinks in the lounge was lovely. Nice gardens. Overall a pleasant stay if somewhat overpriced

    A very fine hotel

Just before the second lockdown I had the pleasure to stay a single night at Whatley. Id wanted to stay for a while - I was intrigued by the fact it is a small property and yet with so many facilities and a clear focus on quality. It looked to have all the advantages of an independent property and good leadership. Im always impressed by hotels that respond thoughtfully to Trip Advisor reviews - good and bad. Im delighted to say that Whatley is a very fine hotel. Many things stand out: - Excellent cleanliness throughout. Covid arrangements were thoughtful, applied consistently and yet not intrusive. - Well maintained - all the areas of the hotel I saw were in excellent condition. - Beautiful gardens. I think these are a real highlight. They are divided into several smaller gardens each with a distinct personality and feel. Lovely to walk around and explore. - A wonderful spa - both in terms of facilities and service. The pool was a perfect - so lovely to be outside as the sun sets in warm water with the cool autumn air. The thermal suite too was excellent. I had a brilliant massage - again so professional. - Comfortable, spacious lounges - homely, relaxing, peaceful. - Memorable food - I only ate in the Brasserie and was so impressed by the quality and originality. A beetroot parfait for dessert - brilliant! And probably the best club sandwich Ive ever had in the Spa Cafe. Id love to go back to eat in the Dining Room! - Comfortable, well appointed guest room. I stayed in the entry level Classic Room and it was still spacious, supremely comfortable, well appointed. I think the rooms are actually more stylish than they appear on the website. The bed was perfectly comfortable. Bathroom spacious and good toiletries from Molton Brown. Great to have Chromecast in the room, and a good quality radio. - The Cinema is fun and a lovely way to enjoy an evening. The sound system is very impressive!! Of course no great hotel is ultimately about facilities - it is always about people. Whatley has a wonderful team. The whole team seemed proud of the hotel and fully committed to providing great service. I very much enjoyed an evening chat with Operations Manager Attila - a true hospitality professional. Equally - all the staff in the Spa were particularly excellent. Thoughtful, warm and totally professional. Sue Williams - the GM - has a great reputation in the hotel industry and it was clear to see there was good leadership in the hotel. Any areas for improvement? A few very small areas that are only worthy to be mentioned given this is a 5 red star property. These should certainly be seen in the context of a really excellent stay. - I found the breakfast environment a little casual. I like informal, engaging service - but it didnt quite seem fitting to have the radio playing in a 5* hotel for breakfast and the service style was friendly but just a little too casual. The quality of food was excellent. - A common bugbear of mine - coffee skills not great. A flat white is not the same as a latte! It seems few hotels, even the very best, can make really great coffee. - Service in the lounge in the morning was lacking. I sat in the lounge for over 30 minutes before catching the eye of the gracious and professional restaurant maitre d' who had just arrived. He got everything sorted, but there were others around before him. - It would be good to see more varied and interesting non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. - Furniture in the Spa Cafe is perhaps not as stylish as when it first arrived. To stress - these are small points. This is a very fine hotel and Id stay again in a heartbeat. Whatley is beautiful, generous, gracious, stylish, welcoming and warm.

    ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.

This was a present to my Fiance for her birthday. We arrived on Thursday 3rd December not being here before. The receptionist was incredibly welcoming. Explaining that we were the first guests since November. Gave us a fantastic introduction to Whatley Manor that really made us feel at home. The room was lovely and clean. The bed was enormous and extremely cumfortable. After putting our things away we went for lunch. The gentleman that served us was very polite, well mannered and professional in serving us our sandwiches and a drink. My partner went for a 90 min Spa Treatment which left me to chill out and enjoy the pool and Spa facilities - highly recommend. Our package included the Tasting Menu with wine flight. The waiters and waitresses were extremely professional. They all knew what each individual ingredient was on each plate and explained them carefully. The sommelier was superb at describing the flavours of the wines and the effects they had against each dish. We even briefly spoke to their famous chef - best of luck with the rest of the competition! Food was brilliant. The Turbot on the tasting menu was our favourite. We have been to many places and I really feel the need to write this review. The place is beautifully set but HUGE credit to the staff and team at Whatley Manor. 10/10 service and atmosphere. You certainly get what you pay for.
