  Nice hotel, location could be a little bit more central

  The Gear Hotel has everything you need - it's clean enough, they provided us with breakfast (albeit from McDonald's), and it's extremely cheap. It's also walking distance from the Love River which is great. However, it's located a little far from the city centre and the nearest metro station (Kaohsiung Main Station) is a 15-25 minute walk down the Jian Guo San Lu. However, distance from the city centre and the metro lines aside, the hotel is clean and graet value for the price. I would definitely consider staynig their again.

  OK stay..

  Stayed here as part of our tour itinerary. Not sure how much it would cost per night since the accommodation was already included as part of the tour. The room we stayed was ok in size, with an old toilet. The room itself was fine, not especially clean or dirty. Gear hotel is located a bit away from the city centre, so we took a cab to the night market and the shopping area instead of walking. It cost us about NTD100 from the night market back to the hotel. Breakfast served was ok, but could be improved with the food quality.

  Small bathroom

  The rooms are kinda of small for double. For triple, it is ok. Bathroom for both double and triple are very cramp. If you are a big american fellow, you will find difficulties to move around in the bathroom. There is a small night market near the hotel.

  Nice Lobby,aged but big rooms&so so location

  Rooms are with 2 Queens-hence value,catering more for mainland China tour groups now.Furnishing aged but comfortable enough. Breakfast is good.5 minutes walk to right to 711 and some foodstall.otherwise quite dead part of city but not too far by cabs etc to the tourist place of Ai river and ChiJin island.

  Spacious room

  A relative in Taiwan helped us to book the room. It was her favorite hotel whenever she visited Kaohsiung. She liked the hair salon opposite the hotel and the local market place just behind the hotel. She was a frequent visitor and the hotel staff have also become her friends. Three of us stayed in a room with 2 double beds, rather comfortable. The hotel is just next to the main road. Walk out of the hotel and turn to the left, you can reach the "Love" River. Turn towards the right and walk for about 5 minutes just below the flyover is another market place selling dry goods. The hotel is also within walking distance of the "Liuhe" night market. One product that you can get from the night market is the almond biscuits sold in plastic packs. They are delicious. The hotel has two passenger lifts. Only one of them serves the restaurant at Level 2. If you at Level 5 and wants to go to Level 2, do take the correct lift, otherwise, you will have to get out at Level 1 and change to the other lift to go to Level 2. A little inconvenient.
