Wonderful Place - Great Location - Great Staff

I am at the airport so will have to add more to this review when I get home. I found this a great long stay hotel...or just one night. Two of the staff speak English, Olga and Svetlana, Olga teaches Russian and English if your interested. The rooms are nice, comfortable beds, nice kitchen for light cooking. I stayed in room 7 for 3 weeks. Room: Well appointed, comfortable bed and room temperature in winter. Good lighting, plenty of outlets, good closet space, comfortable seating and breakfast bar. TV has hundreds of channels but good luck figuring out what they are. Staff: Being English speaking I was limited to two staff members to speak to and both were excellent help, courteous, and got problems or requests resolved quickly. I had a few maintenance issues which seemed to take along time to resolve and I fixed them myself. The problem was the room being occupied at the time but I do not understand why this would be an issue. This was the off season and the hotel was fully booked so I think they were caught off-guard. I believe they strive for improvement so share your comments with them before leaving. I rate the staff 5 stars. Breakfast: A great breakfast tray is served using packaged store items in your room every afternoon, just in case you want a snack. There is some variety from day to day and you can go to the desk and advise them of your preferences. There is a refrigerator but I found some problems with the door on mine that could not get fixed while I occupied the room for 3 weeks. There is a water boiler, microwave, two burner gas stove and simple pots and dishes. Basic kitchen items. Missing...paper towels or napkins. Champagne flutes, shot glasses and regular glasses. Problem area is bottled water on 3rd floor which runs our on Friday so nothing over the weekend. I do not know why they do not get another bottle. It seems one bottle lasts 1.5 days or less. I give breakfast 4.5 stars. Bathroom: Well equipped...HOT water and plenty of it. Some variations in water temperature from use at other locations so be careful with a hot shower. Nice shower, great deep soaking bath! Windows blinds in bathroom did not function correctly so privacy was an issue. I had to pull and tug to get them to move and even then they would not close completely from view of the window across the yard and up. Plenty of fresh towels and mats. Nice heated floor! I give bathroom 4.5 stars. Location: GREAT! Can walk at all hours...embassies close by...plenty of reasonable restaurants within 5 min walk or less...small grocery 1 min walk...nice wine store...1 min walk...get married across the street is you like. Metro is 5 min walk as well as larger stores of all kinds. Park at the end of the street. I give location 5 stars. Where to eat: There are many places on the same street but my favorite, in fact I loved the place and the food, is the Art Cafe in the right side of the street almost to the Metro. Look for a separate review which will be 5 stars. I was disappointed in the Ukrainian place up the street on the same side. For steaks the Montana was highly recommended but I can't justify a $60 rib eye. I found average meal for two in most places with one drink about $35 with tip of 10%. Staying at the Austrian yard and eating at the Art Cafe reminds me of being in the Village in NYC 30 years ago but staying at a nice place. Nice residential living feel to the place.

    Great stay in St. Petersburg

Austrian Yard is a little gem in a lovely St. Petersburg neighborhood. A small hotel, only 4 rooms, each simple but well-appointed, with a kitchenette and a nice private bathroom. Our room overlooked the courtyard, which gave us a quiet respite from the whirlwind of activity in this thriving city. The staff was not only friendly, but made every effort to help us by offering advice on travel times and arranging for our transportation. They seemed to really care about making our stay as comfortable and welcoming as possible. I had a slight problem with a lost exit visa, and both Olga and Svetlana made several calls to help me remedy the situation (it turns out to that one merely needs to fill out another form upon leaving Russia, no problem). This hotel honestly felt like a home away from home, a way to feel more like a temporary resident than a tourist. I loved having a small market and delightful bakery, not to mention a beautiful park, wine shop and wedding chapel (it was wedding season when we were there in June, and we saw several bridal parties daily) all within a few minutes walk. If you are looking for a more authentic experience of St. Petersburg, and value a peaceful retreat after a long day of exploring the city, this is the place for you.

Perfect spot for an extended stay

My wife and I stayed here for 9 nights while we explored the city of St. Petersburg. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from a metro station from which it is a quick connection to any of the metro lines in the city. The hotel is on a quiet, clean street near an embassy and some cafes. There is a nice park just a block away and a 24-hour atm machine at a bank next to the metro station. The staff was friendly, helpful, and responded to our requests for specific food and extra linen. Our room had a kitchen and ample breakfast food was included (cereal, yogurt, bread, milk, juice, sweets, butter, jam, rolls). Our 3rd-floor room overlooked a quiet courtyard. We had three windows, which could be opened wide for fresh air. Bottled water for drinking was available from a cooler on the next floor up. The only negative was that the wi fi internet speed was inconsistent - sometimes reasonably fast, sometimes so slow it was unusable. We received a discount or the regular room rate for our multi-night stay.

    Excellent place to stay

We stayed here for 6 nights, in Apartment 9 which is at the top and has two lovely skylights, so is very light and cheerful. Olga was really warm and helpful and speaks English like a native speaker. We loved our apartment. It was spacious, everything worked, beds comfortable etc. Best things for us: overlooking a quiet courtyard, we were able to sleep with the windows open at night with very little city noise, and the Tauride Gardens are the best park in the inner city area, large and leafy and peaceful and without the high fencing in many St Petersburg parks (the grass is fenced off in many of them!). If you want the bright lights of Nevsky Prospect, this may not be for you. But if you want to be in a pretty and safe-feeling area, these apartments are in the embassy district and it's an easy walk to the Hermitage and attractions.

    A real pleasure!

First time in St Petersburg and we picked this really wonderfull place. Located in a very convenient spot for sightseeing either on foot or by metro, this was one of the best accommodations we ever had worldwidely. Clean and cosy room, very nicely decorated, with a beautiful yard, in which you can enjoy your drink or coffee. The rooms are very quiet, the neighbourhood is amazing and of course safe. Many nice cafes and restaurants are in the vincinity and the metro station is three blocks away. The staff is really helpfull and friendly: Igor, Olga, Tatianna, Dmitry and the rest made our staying there unforgettable. We shall certainly meet again in our next visit in your heroic and beautiful city! Spashiba for everything, best regards from greece, Anna, Kostas.
