    Ski Trip

We stayed at the Breithorn for a weeks ski holiday with a party of friends. I would say its not a 4 star hotel more like a 3. We stayed in room 100 which was the only room on the lower ground floor. We found the room very dark with no view. There are 3 light bulbs out and it took them until the Wednesday to fix. The shower also overflowed onto the bathroom floor but they did use a drain fluid that cleared this. There was a very creaky door that needs adjusting outside of the window, every morning around 6 a.m it woke us up with kitchen staff coming and going. Other people in the hotel could hear it and also complained. The beds were comfortable the duvets warm and snuggly. The food was okay, and the young staff did their best. One side of our dining table was a long built in chair bench type seating and it was over a radiator. We had to take turns sitting on that side of the table as it was so hot it was unbearable when eating. We asked every day for the radiator to be turned off, but it just didnt happen! Champoluc is a great ski area, the snow was perfect and we had a lovely holiday. The lockers by the lifts were an added bonus. The bar and lounge area, the spa etc are all positives, the staff are friendly and helpful. The Ski Total Rep was good too. Would we go back? Not sure to be honest

    Wonderful Stay

We have just returned from a weeks ski trip to this chalet and it was fabulous. I dont agree with some of the reviews on here that the food was terrible because it was absolutely delicious. You could chose what you wanted from the 3 course menu the night before (there were 3 options for main) and it was presented brilliantly and tasted amazing. Canapés and prosecco were served before we had even sat down. The afternoon tea was the best Iv had and Iv been going to chalets for over 20years in France, Italy and Austria. At 4.30 they set out fresh homemade soup and baguette, a choice of cakes cookies and sandwiches!! So much food. Tea and coffee was available around the clock in the beautiful lounge area. The staff were exceptional and were so accommodating. It was like eating in a hotel every night, you had your own table (unlike what another guest review said that you were forced to eat with others). The staff constantly topped you up with wine (there was a choice of 4 wines) and it was a very friendly atmosphere. Who on earth can fault this? Dont like the wine? Well go and buy a bottle from the shop you cheapskate fusspot ! Honestly some people on this site must have nothing better to do than complain. Our room was more than comfortable with a mini fridge, safe, fresh towels on request, and made up everyday except Wednesday. And although theres no bath, just a shower, you can have a deep soak in the jacuzzi downstairs if your limbs are hurting after a long ski, which is clean and well stocked with fresh towels. I want to name everyone personally and thank them for making our stay so special but I do not know everyones names. Marco, fab manager and taught me marscapone is the only way to make tiramisu, Karl who made the most amazing cake as a special request for my husbands birthday. Liam and all the other staff, Im sorry I dont remember names very well but Thankyou for your hospitality, youre a credit to the chalet. If you want a ski in ski out chalet, this is not for you because theres a short walk to the bubble but this is a small compromise for a truly wonderful stay.

    excellent

Staff superb, nothing too much trouble. Special mention to chef Kyle who made a superb birthday cake for our group and Liam who mainly waited our table and who had a birthday in same week, he was excellent as were all staff. Our room 105 was a great size twin with large shower room, with excellent shower and no problems with power of shower or temperature of water, great. nice inner lobby for coats etc and cases. Plenty of storage, had a fridge suitable for sandwiches or drinks as not deep and a safety deposit box. No tea/coffee making but this was available 24hrs a day in room just off the very large and comfortable lounge area. Beware though, if you go between 3/3.30 check the milk is ok, as I made tea but the milk had gone off although it was in the thermos flask.....guess it had been standing a while, but didn't deter me, as was all replenished next time I went down within half hour, if I had asked I am sure they would have changed it then. Did mention to them that the cups needed scouring out daily as although they had been cleaned in the dishwasher they were often very stained, but by end of week this improved. Beds and pillows very very comfy. We had an issue with our radiator which was sorted immediately by John the deputy manager. Room 105 was lovely, but remember to take slippers as being a chalet all wood floors sometimes splinters were possible. The light was very soft, but I was not able to do a crossword in this light as it was a little dark for me, but it is an observation, if I was that bothered I would have mentioned it to the team, to be fair, Iwas that tired after the slopes I just rested before dinner , after the fantastic afternoon tea and yummy soup and sandwiches and cake. Honestly the best afternoon tea I have had anywhere, thankyou. Now to dinner, faultless and very tasty. You chose what you want off the menu for the following night and it was all fantastic, I was with family who had years of ski experience and they said this was the best food they have ever had on a ski holiday and I would agree. Red and white wine as much as you would like with evening meal. If you didn't want wine you could order a drink from the bar which was extra. Breakfast again, could not fault the choice or quality, plenty of juices, cereals, cold buffet and hot buffet, something for even the fussiest of people. A ski lift pass was 250 euro for a week (6 day) but this served you for the larger area of champoluc and couple other smaller areas and Pila if you wanted to get a bus for 28 euro there for a day. A must have is the drinking chocolate its proper drinking chocolate and is approx. 4euro depending on where you have it. Its a bit of a bum fight the day you arrive and go collect you hired ski, boots, helmet and poles so be prepared for a little chaos then, but once you have all the kit its a 2 minute walk across the road down a slope to the locker room (you will have been given the key to this by hotel reception for a 5 euro deposit)where you can leave the kit until you start your day ski ing on the following day, depending of course what time you arrive at resort. We arrived around 12 and by 2 we were at the rentaplay shop getting our equipment. Be prepared also for a big queue between 9.15/10.00 getting onto the gondola to go to the crest, a little tip is to stay on the left, go through left barrier and shimmy to the left to get the gondola, you need to be organised and quick to get your skis in and jump in, so if like us you are a family of six, often you wont all get into the same gondola, but its not an issue. once at the top, everybody seems to want the toilet so theres a queue out of the door, better if you can avoid needing the toilet before ski schools start at ten. The Edelweiss restaurant is very nice with good service on the crest by the ski school, lovely to sit outside for lunch or just a hot chocolate. It was warm and sunny for all our week except one day when it was grey and snowed but I liked that day as well. I had never been skiing before and was so so nervous. I had a different instructor each day and I only had 3 lessons, the rest of the week I practiced myself. The hardest parts for me was getting on the travellators and getting the kit on and off, but by the end of my week I was able to ski down the beginners slope, turn and stop and that was all I wanted to achieve. Felt like I was going much faster than I was. As for children, how do they learn so quickly I am in aww of how fast they learn and how brave they are, fantastic. Carol our skitotal rep was great, very friendly and knowledgeable nothing too much trouble. Room 106 was another room for our group, that had a twin room with lounge area (which was used as a double) and a balcony, was very nice. Had a wet room which I guess this room is for disabled access. Nice view from room/balcony between buildings opposite up the mountains. There is a spa which is also nice. There is a lift if you are on the upper floors. The décor of the hotel is traditional and very homely full of comfort. Would I recommend, absolutely. Its a short 6 minute walk to the locker room from the hotel which is right opposite the road you cross for the escalators that take you up to the gondolas. I also recommend Churez pizza restaurant, but book early, it is super busy, I would recommend a 6.30 booking when they open before the rush. Thin baked pizzas with choice of 51 toppings, excellent. reasonable price, for 12" pizza between 8.50/11.50 euro. Also recommend the small café (cant remember name) it sold ice cream, just along from the ski rental place, they sold excellent lunch foods as well. The supermarket shop is a little pricey and is closed between 12.30 and 3.30 then re-opens until 7.30pm. If you walk across the bridge on the opposite side of road to ski rental there is an area with a slope that kids can come down on the paddles etc or build snowmen, had fun on there myself. Area very pretty. Think I have covered most of it, check it out for yourself, its great. We were a group of experienced skiers and beginners. Not a lot of slope for intermediate skiing.

    Friendliest staff ever

Charming, old hotel. The staff are ridiculously nice and helpful. They seem to really enjoy their jobs and it shows. Can't praise them enough as they went above and beyond for us multiple times, including the ski rep. Food was good. 5-10 min walk to the gondola but there's a locker room for your kit by it. Nice simple spa, (though NB it's for >16 yrs only). The only fault I can think of is that the showers oscillate in temperature without being touched, which is not ideal!

A return visit to the Breithorn

Visited 29th March 2020. As soon as other family members said they wanted to join us on a ski trip with their young baby we knew we had to return to Champoluc and the Hotel Chalet Breithorn. Even set against the concerns of the medical lockdowns in northern Italy we had a brilliant week of skiing. The Breithorn provided the perfect base with its comfortable and relaxed atmosphere and friendly, hard-working young staff. Meals in the Hotel and indeed out on the slopes were thoroughly enjoyed. Concerns of having a young baby in the party were soon forgotten as both the staff and other guests went out of their way to assist. The Breithorn is a charming hotel with a spacious lounge and bar area, well positioned for a gentle walk to the ski/boot lockers at the base of the gondola. Snow conditions were excellent during our week and the skiing lived up to our expectations. Some of our party visited the local Monterosa Spa reporting that it was an excellent way to spend several hours and was all booked at a discount by the SkiTotal rep. As I write this, I see that the Monterosoa Ski area has now been closed due to the Coronavirus area closures, which is a shame but understandable given the current situation in northern Italy. I wish the hotel staff and locals all the very best during this difficult time. I am confident we will return to this hotel.
