  Wonderful Stay-cation

  Overall it was an amazing experience. It was a beautiful hotel ,dinner was delicious , the front staff were very friendly and informative. Rotating bar in Chez- Ami should be experienced. Reading other reviews I was shocked at the comments made about so called "issues" that were due in fact to the pandemic we are in and regulations mandated by the State - which are no fault of the hotels. My wife and I felt as if the hotel , restaurants etc provided the best serviced they enabled to do !

  Very Satisfied Return Customers

  We were here one night in November 2018, and had such a wonderful one night stay. Since COVID has clipped our travel wings, we have been traveling around NY State. We decided to enjoy 2 days this time in Buffalo, and stay at the Curtiss. This stay was even better than the first, despite the expected changes due to COVID. We were greeted upon arrival by the parking attendant. There is no Valet service at this time, but parking is still free. He gave us a ticket for our car, and we had no problem parking during our time here. We arrived early (11:00), and it was no problem to check in. We had again requested an upgraded room, and they were gracious to do that. We had the lovely room 608...and it was super quiet all night. The room was amazing...the bathroom even more so! We did have housekeeping service during our stay, but it is by request only. We left as soon as we arrived to do a few touristy things, then returned about 4. We enjoyed time in the Urban Springs/Hot tub. It is restricted to 6 people at this time, and we had to sign in with the front desk so they could monitor usage. For dinner that night we ate a delicious dinner at Chez Ami. We did not eat on property last trip. We sat on the patio...and it was a gorgeous night with the windows open. We then went up to the VUE rooftop hoping to catch sunset. Unfortunately, sunset cannot be seen from the roof, but it is a fantastic view. Obviously, it is restrictive being seated...but we understood why the rules were necessary. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic and relaxing. Before COVID it was a buffet breakfast. Now, you order breakfast, and they bring it to your table. Again, we had a beautiful seat on the patio. We never saw the revolving bar moving. We were told because there was a limitation of staff. That is logical. Perhaps more staff on the weekends, as we specifically travel mid week to avoid the crowds. Maybe next time! We felt comfortable that Curtiss is doing everything possible to keep their patrons and staff safe. We will be back again!!!

  Inside is very appealing even thought somewhat tasteless. Worst is customer service - this is no 5 star. And it had nothing to do with covid 19 as they try to explain. Calling to arrange shuttle to the airport which is listed on the website but its not available due to covid. We will arrange transportation and leave you a message . 2 hr later back to the room - no message. Calling back to front desk and they just forgot. I dont think in 5 star hotel you need to call for a toothbrush and toothpaste. You have wine in the fridge but no wine glasses(even disposable). Keurig coffee is not a level of 5 star hotel. Chez Ami food is below average and hugely overpriced by Buffalo standards. Besides cleanliness and appearance this is not a 5 star hotel.

  Staycation was fine...could have been stellar.

  For a birthday celebration we took advantage of a Staycation deal for $269 including a standard King room, dinner for 2, continental breakfast the next morning and a $40 gift certificate to a sister restaurant down the street (with a lot of parameters for use that makes it nearly worthless). Yes, we went during Covid and based on the cars in their small front parking lot, perhaps 10 rooms were occupied max. To put your best marketing foot forward, why not offer to these existing customers the very best rooms in the house to promote all that the hotel has to offer--nope. We got what we paid for and nothing more. Many of us were put on the same floor too. The hotel is worn for only being 3 years old. We sat at the huge bar by ourselves, ate dinner by ourselves and the roof-top bar was completely buttoned up even though it was open. Not inviting. The entire experience was fine, just fine...nothing better. Feel for the hospitality industry but you lost a good marketing opportunity hen the hotel was empty. Upgrades don't cost any more and make for more satisfied customers. Lesson learned.

  wow!

  I completely enjoyed my stay at the Curtiss hotel. I can't speak about the restaurant, rooftop bar or fitness center/spa - so this review is completely based on the hotel itself and the room. The Curtiss hotel is located in downtown Buffalo - within walking distance to several restaurants (I would HIGHLY recommend dropping by Graylynn down the street - really amazing cocktails and food). the parking during the pandemic could not be easier - just pull up into the front parking lot steps from the door and park. I imagine normally it's all valet. The building itself is a gorgeous, old structure. high ceilings, huge windows, and you can feel the history. I love the details in these old buildings, and this one does not disappoint. at night the building is lit up and is something to behold. when I walked into my room I was blown away. normally my number one thing with nice hotels is usually the view outside - this room faced a parking garage (but if you looked down to the right you could see a touch of skyline). I can imagine a corner room would have been amazing as the windows are so large....but my room was so nice that I didn't mind the parking garage. you walk into a gigantic marble entry way/foyer with a coffee machine and mini bar. the room was large - the paint and decor was very soothing and restful. the furniture was high end and unique. there were even real books in the room to flip through. the room overall was well put together and thought out - very luxe, comfortable and elegant. I imagine the other rooms have similar looks - but it's special and not like walking into a Westin or Marriott room, where you know every room looks exactly alike. the technology in the rooms is also fun - the drapes are all electric so don't try to manually open them! the bidet on the toilet was a nice, high end touch. and the shower was just about perfect -- after I got my PhD to figure it out. :) there is a touchpad by the bed that controls much of the features in the room - the lights, drapes, temperature/fans, do not disturb light. it's really cool. most importantly for a hotel - the room was absolutely clean. no complaints at in that department. I really enjoyed this hotel - I would love to get snowed in there and really get cozy there. It was a perfect stay and I will absolutely come back and stay at the Curtiss. I'm now thinking -- how soon can I get back to Buffalo?
