  Buen hotel

  Tiene encanto, nos resultó un poco dificil de localizar pero valió la pena. La anfitriona fue encantadora y muy disponible a todo cuanto necesitamos. Nos recibió con limonada fresca y una amplia sonrisa. El desayuno esta muy bien, mermeladas caseras, yogur griego, frutos secos, cereales,zumo natural.Las vistas mientras desayunas son hermosas (la peor atención la recibimos en el desayuno, quien lo sirve no es nada amable). Su ubicacion es muy buena puedes ir caminando a cenar.

  A hotel with a difference

  If you want some personal service of the old fashioned kind, please stay here. What I mean is, the managers are so personable, Maria Ioanna and Nondas were often asked questions in which I discovered was some history about the hotel itself. Let me not spoil it for you, but the building has been privately owned for 3 generations and previously hired by the British Consulate prior to World War 2. It also has some other tales which I would advise to source the book which may be released later this year. Otherwise, pay it a visit. Breakfast is fresh, not overley complicated but all natural home made ingredients and award winners. The eggs are to order, meaning cooked for you on request. The rooms are nice old touch style with a great bathroom. The view is lovely matching the experience. The staffs local knowledge about Cretes own history and which beaches are attainable via a short bus ride. They will steer you in the right direction. We were advised to visit Marathi beach which is a quietly located sheltered spot, 20 minute bus ride and one way ticket 2.70 euro. Marathi beach is where the locals go, it is an outstanding place. A hotel which I would visit again if I came back to Crete.

  Great find

  We walked into this former Hungarian embassy, and wow it was a step back in time, very chintzy, but very sweet. But the room was very basic indeed. Not even a kettle. And it wasn't cheap. However the staff are wonderful especially the owner, she was around when the Germans invaded. The breakfast room, and the breakfast in amazing. With a wonderful Seaview. Go there.

  Excellent family-run hotel

  The hotel lies approx. 20 minutes walk along a pedestrian esplanade from Chania old town centre - close enough for convenience and far enough to be away from the crowds. The hotel has a welcoming, traditional vibe, with supremely warm and helpful staff. We found the rooms and public spaces scrupulously clean and the staff provide a turn down service at no extra cost. If you accept the limitations of a small hotel - medium sized rooms and reduced (but beautifully presented) outdoor spaces - ther are no down sides to a stay here. I have a feeling that we will be back.

  A Gem

  Of course it all depends on who you are and what youre into. I love this hotel bc it is architecturally interesting, historical and a bit eccentric. It is, especially, evocative. This was the consulate of the Austro-Hungarian empire in Crete. It was built in the late 1800s. Now, how cool is that? The decor respects the period of the building (more like a very large house, with 24 rooms on 3 floors). The needlework, photographs, and other wall hangings enchant. The first floor has two sitting areas. The third floor has a panoramic view of the Aegean one can enjoy while having breakfast. On check I found the staff to be especially warm and welcoming. They have assisted with directions and recommendations. My room, with a double bed, is at the front of the building in the middle of the second floor. It looks across the street to the Aegean, and I can see the walls of the Old City, as well as the minaret from the Ottoman era mosque. There is a lovely walking path into the Old Town. Another thing I love about this place is that I can turn to the right and go to Blue, within a block, a higher end seafood and steak restaurant above the sea, or to my left, I can go to the next cross street (Iroon Polytechneiou) where there are multiple hip restaurants. I discovered that this city is youthful, with many students. This area is especially lovely. Many of the buildings are old mansions. One is not in the heart of Old Town but very close and able to get a breather from the commercialism and tourism. There is no pool, but one could swim in the sea across the road, or at any of a number of beaches nearby. There is also on street parking within the block. For the most part these amenities are not available in Old Town. There is also a lift or an old beautiful wooden spiral staircase. The hotels small front yard also has a table and chairs for enjoying the view. The room has a refrigerator with mini-bar. All the expected amenities are in the room (hair dryer, bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, towels). I would note that Google Maps is off a bit on the location. This hotel is on Venizelou, just around the corner from the Hotel Irida at Ogdois Dekemvriou. Over 3 weeks Ive visited Reythmnou, Iraklio, Aghios Nikolaus and now Chania, each is different and has its own merit. But Chania has the beautiful Old Town of Reythmnou, the beaches and resorts of Aghios Nikolaus, the sophistication of Iraklio. It is exceptionally clean, well designed, full of light and a feeling of well being, full of flowering bushes, and is both a physically and emotionally positive place to be.
