  A beautiful, traditional hotel in the middle of the pedestrianised zone in Saalbach

  We have recently returned from our annual trip to Austria and were not disappointed yet again by the lovely hotel and its staff. From the impressive reception area, into the lavishly presented lounge and bar area, through to the dining room - everywhere was immaculate. The room we were given was very large with lovely furnishings and separate toilet and bathroom facilities, on the first floor. However, this did overlook the entrance to the kitchen area of the bar next door so I asked for a different room. The request was dealt with very efficiently and we were allocated a room on the third floor instead with a wonderful view of the mountains. The staff at the Eva were superb and never failed to give a smile and greeting, especially the lovely young ladies from housekeeping on their evening visit to check any laundry requirements and issue Eva chocolates! Thank you for a wonderful holiday in a special place.

  Great location, good rooms

  Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. Location is great, 5 minute walk to Kohlmais-lift and 10 minute walk to Schattberg X-press (downhill respectively uphill when coming home). Food was ok, nothing extraordinary. Friendly staff throughout the hotel.

  Impractical location; no resident reception

  We wish we stayed elsewhere (like Eva Village)! This place is 7min uphill walking (with ski boots) distance to the slopes when you are returning back to the hotel; not so convenient when you have other many options. There is no resident reception function. You can find receptionists btw 8am-afternoon. If you wish to have assistance in the evening, for instance, there will be no one there. The ski room is very very small and not well-ventilated. Ony two can wear boots at the same time on the bench on the narrow corridor and outside there is also a two seater. Not really comfortable ski room. The sauna area is quite claustrophobic; no surprise that there are hardly anyone making use of the sauna. There is no pool, too. There is no elevator in this property. If your room is on the top floor or a level below top, you need to climb the stairs (with your luggage). On the positive side, the restaurant staff are quite helpful and polite; so are the receptionists. We were hinted taking our half-board dinner at Eva Village (the main property of the Eva group), subject to availability. And we really liked it at Eva Village as it is much more lively and chic there. For this you need to pay a little extra for the 4-course fixed-menu dinner at Eva Village but they also deduct the 3-course meal you did not have at Eva Garden. The shuttle service btw Eva Village and Eva Garden is useful but only at every half-hour during the morning schedule and the afternoon schedule. If you choose to walk to the village center then a 11 min walk uphill to Garden (with skiboots and skis!!) or a 9min walk downhill is ahead of you. There is a rumor that the property owners would undertake refurbishing of Eva Garden. Hope it will be good but this would probably not resolve challenges related to its location. We would not prefer staying here again (but love to enjoy Eva Village; see our other review).

  Book four stars, get 2 stars and pay 5 stars

  Eva Garden is by far not as nice as Eva Village. I came here with a couple of friends for a long skiing weekend. The nice things: the staff was super friendly and helpful, the food was good Negative: about 50 Euros per night per person too expensive for what you get. It seems that the people from the (nice) hotel Eva Village took over another place in town without investing anything in the existing rooms or facilities (there are a few new rooms attached that seem to be nice). The existing rooms are old, small and need renovation. The spa (sauna) is a joke, especially the shower. Eva Garden is away from the center and they offer a shuttle to the slopes (500m walk). You book four stars, get two stars and pay five stars, thats what a waiter in town told us, after he found out where we were staying. It pretty much sums it up ....

  Very pretty with friendly staff and great views.

  The hotel itself is small and quite quaint and pretty. It is situated up the hill from the village and does have lovely views. The room we had was very small but was clean and comfortable and the bathroom floor was lovely and warm. Great for drying ski clothes. The housekeeping was good. Our bed would be made while we were at breakfast and bathroom cleaned. The restaurant staff were charming. However, there were some things which let the hotel down. The breakfast was not very good. I asked for muesli but they did not have it. And no porridge. The hot breakfast was just not appetising. More variety is needed. We didnt enjoy the evening meals in the hotel. The dining room is small and there were two big parties of men who were very noisy. The food was ok but not special. Our biggest concern was the distance from the ski lifts and the village. They do offer an excellent ski shuttle in the morning and evening but thats no good if the weather is not good and you want to get back earlier. Hiking up a very steep hill with your skis for 15 minutes is not my idea of fun. They need to extend the hours. So not ideal for us. But I must say that it is quite a quiet location.
