    Dissapointing hotel, good restaurant

we were moved to the Grand Hotel, having had confirmed reservations at their sister facility. your sister facility developed air handling problems so they offered us the Grand Hotel. The lobby the reception area is very nice, however is not maxed in the room, even though we had one of their better room with a balcony overlooking the harbor. The lighting is very poor, the furniture very dated, lamps were burned out, shelf was falling off in the bathroom, you cannot move in the shower (plastic encapsulated shower unit with multiple jets, however the Jets were clogged so some of them or spraying with a very fine high force and others were not working at all.) there is very little attention to detail, such as missing nightstand, upholstery coming off of chairs, coffee maker however no coffee service and only one cup and only one glass for a double room. the restaurant however was a pleasant surprise with excellent service and very high quality food at a reasonable price for Italy. with their location be ideal for the ferry to Sicily, it's sad that management is not tending to the details to allow the hotel to become what it could be.

    Good in parts!

We'd booked a nearby hotel but were redirected here on our arrival with the referring hotel emphasising that the Grand Hotel De La Ville was " four star, four star!" Well parts of it might be, but other parts aren't. Friendly staff, good dining room - we had dinner and breakfast - with staff making effort to provide gluten free options for my wife. But the wifi was dreadful, dreadful, dreadful - it did not function at all in our bedroom, and when we were downstairs it sometimes dropped out. Very frustrating. Also in our room (spacious, clean, and with a view) there were no lights suitable for reading. So if you need good wifi and like to read in yr room at night, there might be better options for you.

    Hermoso hotel

    Bad News!

Having been booked through a travel agent, we stayed at this property for one night. Let me be clear that our travel agent used the services of a tour company for our booking as we were traveling independently and asked for one night in Reggio Calabria. We were traveling from Sicily on the ferry and wanted one night before we continued to Cropani, Italy. I wish I read the reviews before agreeing to stay here. The hotel is located in an impoverished area, across from a bus terminal/parking lot for tractor trailers. The photo presented by the hotel looks NOTHING like the property. When you enter the hotel, you find beautiful antiques and the restaurant/bar area. All appear a bit dated but well done....until you look closer. The upholstery is falling apart on closer inspection and much of it needed to be cleaned decades ago. Our room was nothing of what we expected and are used to lodging in. We requested two beds. Well, one large bed and a sofa bed was not what we expected to find, especially with the sofa bed being nothing less than filthy. We closed it up and resigned to sleeping in the one bed. The only interesting place we found to visit in the area was a museum which was fabulous, but we had to drive through some sketchy areas to get there. We grabbed some gelato after the visit at a place recommended before returning to the hotel. We decided to eat dinner at the restaurant of the hotel. What a mistake! Although it was set up for a large crowd, it was the two of us and one other patron. The food was terrible; my meat was pretty much inedible as was my daughter's. Fortunately, we had some snack food in our room. The breakfast was an improvement on dinner but still very lacking. There were many deficiencies in our room. We found hair in the shower drain and it didn't drain until you exited, the toilet seat was broken and fell off if you leaned forward. The crowning jewel in our room was the condition of the draperies. They had so many holes in them it was as if you were looking at a starry sky if they were drawn in daylight. If all of this wasn't bad enough, the younger front desk clerk ogled my daughter each time we walked by and would find reasons to come into the dining room when we ate, again ogling. I would not send my worst enemy to stay at this property. The people responsible for our booking were made aware of the conditions.

    Hotel from late 90-s

It is good hotel from late 90-s. Great bed, but everything else is too old and should be update. Some lamps were missing, the air conditioner did not work, the refrigerator is empty, there is smell of the old furniture, wi-fi is not stable.
