  Amazing quite and fantastic place

  Visiting with my family and 90 years old grandma. Separated room is so quite and relaxing. Dinner is really amazing with many new ideas, and staff hospitality would be always above my expectation.

  Great hot spring experience

  I have been to roughly 25 top hot spring ryokans across Japan over the past 10 years. Ikkoten is definitely one of the best ryokan in Kyushu. Ryokan is 5 mins away from Yufuin station by car with 10 villa style rooms each with private hot spring bath (indoor&outdoor). The room starting from 45 square metres onwards, you will feel spacious even if you only staying at the smallest room. Note that shower area might be a bit cold as air cond may not covering that far. The highlight is the kaiseki dinner, one of the top 3 out of all the ryokans I have stayed and the quantity is above average. Score out of 10 Comfort: 8 (air cond could not covering the entire room & no in-room slippers, could feel cold waking on timber floor) Service: 8.5 (excellent service, smooth check in and check out process) Food taste: 9.5 (better than some of the Michelin 3 stars restaurants I have tried) What to improve: free pick up and drop off service. Since ryokan only host a limited number of guests/families therefore, I free pick up and drop off service should be considered.

  Villa Touou can really sleep 7 of us

  We (5 adults and 2 kids) stayed one night in Villa Touou. 2 staffers were already meeting us at the parking area who also directed us to drive to the villa right away. The check in was just done swiftly in the villa where the kids can settle down easily. The welcome snack was so delicious I regret I didn't finish the ones my other family members didn't consume. There was one standalone bedroom with 2 double beds facing a toilet (without bath). Then the master bedroom is connected to 1 tatami area and 1 tatami attic. With 7 of us, Ikkoten already set up 2 sets of mattresses in the attic and another 1 in the tatami area. With kids in a rainy weather, we appreciated a lot that the front desk called us before they drove to pick us up to head to the dining room. I guess each room/villa had their own private dining room. Only complaint is that our cars had to park a bit further up slope than the villa. And upon check out, while we were hoping we could drive our car to the front of the villa so that we could load our luggage easier, the hotel amenity car decided to restock our villas and occupied the front space of the villa. While we enjoyed the comfortable living room at night with our whole family, we also wished to try the smaller room where the in-room onsen could also enjoy the fantastic view. The onsen in Villa Touou does not have any view.

  Secluded heaven

  If you want to stay away from the touristy crowd nearby Yufuin Town, come to this resort. Their rooms are all in separate villa, with fantastic view of the mountain and forest. It is in deep autumn when I came, the lovely yellow and orange leaves are everywhere. Pictures tells a lot.

  A blend of traditional Japanese and western elements

  This hotel incorporates well traditional Japanese with some western elements in particular with the garden. Each villa has a great view to the mountains and you can enjoy your private outdoor onsen with nature. Their chef and their kitchen were very good with refined dishes and apparently was Michelin guided in 2018. As you are in Yufu, the special fugu menu is a must try. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly.
