Rest at easeOur stay was, comfortable, each room set with clean linen, air-conditioning, coffee and tea station as well. Breakfast was delicious and filling, an absolute delight to stay here. Our cars were wiped down as it had rained the previous night; service we did not expect but highly appreciated. We will recommend Oxford Lodge to anyone who needs a break after a long day's drive!

A very consistent placeThe manager takes interest in guest reviews. The lodge is very old but fairly clean. The breakfast is decent and pleasant beds are good. The pillow had a smell of the person who slept the previous night but there were 4 pillows to choose from so that was no issue at all. The wifi was needed quite late when we arrived and there was no instructions to log on in the room, and they have this weird rule where there is no reception person after 8 or 9pm but further they have equipped that area with an alarm- weird and quaint hotel. not bad but very old school. I would stay here again. They have an excellent dinner option where they present you with a voucher to eat at Dees- In my mind the number one restaurant in the town- has never failed to impress me

An great place to stay with wonderful staffWe had been driving for two weeks and stopped in Vryheid for gas on our way to Kruger. We decided to have a quick dinner and the gas station attendant told us about Debonairs Pizza down the street. We were pretty tired after a long day driving and looked on our tablet to see if there was a decent hotel in town. Lo and behold the Oxford Lodge was next door. So while we were waiting for our pizza I walked down the street and spoke to the front desk person who was just leaving for the night and the security guard. I told them I would like to book a room and they said to just come back after dinner. When we came out of the restaurant we noticed that we had a flat front tire. What a bummer! 9:00 pm and a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. The gas station across the street told us about a 24 hour tire repair service. Can you imagine that. So with air in the tire we went to the repair place and I won't bore you with the three hour saga of having my new rental car new tire vulcanized until midnight! We arrived at midnight at the hotel and the security guard let us look at several rooms. The front building is really nice and the entire establishment was clean, neat, comfortable bed and bathroom, and the room was great. We were exhausted and had a wonderful sleep. The next morning we had a great breakfast. The manager, Johan, sat with us and we talked for a couple of hours which we loved. He was from Vryheid and it was great to chat with someone from the town. The next surprise icame when I went to pay for the room, after a late check out, and it was cheaper than quoted. I insisted in paying more but they said they had a weekend special. It wasn't over yet. We walked outside and I looked for our muddy rental car. I thought it had been stolen until I realized that they had washed out car!! We have stayed in hotels in over 50 countries and this was definitely a first. I asked Johan why they had washed our car and they said it was just part of the service. We were so grateful to have a safe, comfortable, pleasant place to stay with some of the nicest staff we met during our three week self drive South Africa vacation. We had not planned to stop in Vryheid but were very grateful that we did. We could have been on the road with a flat tire at midnight in the middle of nowhere!!

Quaint Heritage HouseThis is a quaint heritage house going back to settler days with creaking floors but quite apt for this battle town which is not far from the Blood River - the name says it all. Great rooms woth lots of space. The place feels like home than a guesthouse. Fantastic small town hospitality.

Good value for money at the Oxford Lodge, VryheidThe Oxford Lodge in Vryheid is an old colonial house converted to a B&B. The main building accommodates the reception area, while accommodation has been built at the back of the old building. I stayed in room 12, which was clean and comfortable. One peculiar aspect of the room was that the wash basin was outside the bathroom. Although I was given a wi-fi code, it appears the wi-fi was switched off late at night. Another complaint was that my room basin drain was blocked. I was pleasantly surprised with the breakfast - there was a good variety of hot porridge, cereals, yogurt, muffins as well as hot breakfast made to order. This is one of the only B&B's where I was able to order French Toast. The Manager was visible during breakfast time and ensured customers needs were met. I was struggling with an allergy and he brought me some medication, which I appreciated. Another positive to mention is that there is a microwave in the hallway to warm food, as well as an ice machine. My room had a bar fridge. This B&B offered good value for money, and the breakfast is one of the best I've had at a B&B.
