Muy agradable hotel
Un hotel tranquilo, en un lugar muy bonito y con todo lo necesario para relajarse. Aconsejo temporada baja y media. Acantilados y playas de ensueño alrededor. El pueblo de Carvoeiro muy agradable. Solo un pequeño problema: la insonorización de las habitaciones.

Luxury!
Carvoeiro is very nice place to stay but not in the season. Thanks to Tripadvisor we understand that is better to stay in a place a little bet far from the hipe! So we did and hopefully! The very beautiful village was really crowded and it was wise to stay in a villa so we may cook some of our meals and spend some time by the pool. Anyhow we recommend Carvoeiro. But next time we will come out of the highest season. The Pestana Villas are top in equipment and facilities. The location is very becoming and all the environment beautifully taken care.

Villa very cold and reception unhelpful. Subsequent emails ignored by Pestana
When we arrived at our villa the heating was not switched on and we were unable to make it work. Later a maintenance man arrived and got the heating working but it was still very cold. The bedding was inadequate and we had to sleep with our clothes and sweaters on. The next day when we returned from playing golf the temperature had risen to 18 degrees. The bedrooms and the sitting room were still very cold. We asked for floor heaters but were told that none were available. By the third day the temperature had risen to 20 degrees, still cold but bearable. I have written three emails to Pestana to complain but their reception say that they are too busy to reply. An email to management also remains unanswered. Avoid this place, they do not know how to treat their paying customers.

Dont play golf here
Dont play golf here. The greens are under some sort of maintenance and dont get cut. Horrible experience. Pestana dont tell you why this is the case and there are many more great courses, in better condition than this one. Pity, because Ive enjoyed this course on many occasions.

Both good and not so good, depends on expectation. Tranquil relaxing location.
My husband and I stayed for a few short nights, the weather was 42 degrees but we still enjoyed it as we could jump in the pool, most times we had this to ourselves and never crowded (2 other people at most). It was good way to meet neighbours and we met some lovely people. We booked in about 9 pm which probably wasn't best as it was difficult to get around in the dark. Probably best to have a car to make life easier in getting about. The golf resort is large and the signage is not brilliant. First night to restaurant we walked which was 15-20 mins away from room and got totally lost on return journey. Eventually had to call reception who sent security man who was not pleased to come and get us. We weren't either as he turned up in a golf buggy which was really for 2 people but as we were desperate to get back we got in and I was "clinging on for my life". He was trundling along at a fair speed on a dusty windy track with no lights, Thank God we survived the first night and we have a good sense of fun and adventure! Receptionist staff were good, friendly and helpful except for one elderly Portuguese night receptionist who in my opinion should be retrained or get the sack as she never answered the phone to us or the shuttlebus driver and was pushed to help us when we walked up to reception to see what the problem was. Golf - we concentrated on other facilities as it was too hot for us to golf but did notice it was hard for some people to get earlier bookings and non members were offered mostly 1 pm onwards. Accommodation - was not luxury but had comfortable bed, shower and toilet, chair, kitchenette with microwave, kettle, fridge and crockery. Had wine glasses but no corkscrew. Patio was standard with table & 2 chairs. Overlooked swimming pool which was quiet and pleasant setting. Cleanliness - bit questionable, we had small ants on the kitchenette worktop and around the sink in the ensuite and my husband got out of bed on the first day and he had a elastoplast stuck to his back! The mind boggles as to where that might have come from as it wasn't his. The sheets had the appearance of being fresh and clean! Reported both to reception who said this was quite common for ants to get in and as to the plaster he said he couldn't understand, even when I got google translate to converse with him. Anyway we agreed he would get housekeeping to change the sheets and try and do something about the ants that day. I still was squatting or drowning ants the following day in the ensuite but the kitchenette was clear at least. Probably best to pay extra for cleaning more often. The housekeeper turned up the last day before we were leaving but thought it was bit late to bother then, but at least she gave us some clean towels. Facilities - Golf (course looked well maintained and green), some other swimming pools around the resort to use. 1 near reception and 1 by restaurant and clubhouse. Small but good gym with air conditioning and music if you choose. Restaurant and bar - Used restaurant daily for breakfast buffet which was excellent standard. Good selection available with English breakfast, meats, cheeses, fruit, yogurts, toast, croissants and a selection of hot and cold drinks. Great start to day and was easy to get a shuttlebus within 5 mins back and forth. When we sussed out the shuttlebus service times we had an excellent service back and forth to breakfast, The Portuguese driver was excellent and was so cheerful and friendly couldn't praise him enough. The evening shuttlebus service starts from 8 pm and ends at 10 pm, we found this out on last night when we used it to get to restaurant. Wouldn't recommend restaurant for evening meal, not much choice and more fish and chips and burgers type menu, although they did have salmon which was okay but nothing to rave about. Depends what you like. The waiting staff were good however and the Brazilian barmaid/waitress introduced us to a lovely Portuguese desert with chocolate honey, cake with cinnamon and ice-cream, which was delicious. She was lovely and remembered our drinks order from another night which impressed, We managed to enjoy our holiday and this is a beautiful part of the Algarve to visit. Taxi to Ferragudo and Carvoeiro is about 10-11 euros by normal taxi, resort taxi is 15 euros and best rate if you can book Uber taxi is around 4-6 Euros. All are air conditioned and comfortable and we found drivers to be pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable. They gave us some good recommendations for Portuguese restaurants. Ferragudo is beautiful old fishing village with quieter pace than Carvoeiro. But both have their beauty and activities like boat trips, etc and good restaurants are plentiful. Beach at Ferragudo has no sun lounges and parasols to hire so advise to buy parasol in the extreme hot sunny periods if planning to stay on beach for long periods. Only has an estuary lake here where you can swim but is clear and calm. You get a ferry taxi over to Portimeo from Ferragudo, Carvoeiro beach is busy but usually sun lounges with shades are available to rent at low cost. There is a lifeguard at this beach as currents are strong. I am good swimmer but the waves were really fierce and it was difficult to get back to shore if you weren't careful but made for exciting visit to the water's edge. We love Portugal and all it has to offer and despite all of the things that we encountered we had a good holiday break in the sunshine, laughed a lot, met some lovely people and eat some great local food. We might research more re other accommodation if we returned to the resort as the villas look good. The residences are basically okay but not big enough for us - guess depends what your expectations are. Would have given higher rating if we hadn't had few aforementioned issues.
