I enjoyed the large room.Really I enjoyed the large room and bathroom. The minimalist lobby and dining room. The service for breakfast instead of usual buffet. The fantastic Japanese dinner and pleasant service, the courtyard. Everything perfect except minor details.

Poor standards of hygieneThe hotel does not comply with the high standards of hygiene and cleanliness during the period of a pademia. A large group of people were swimming in the swimming pool and we were told at the raceception that only 3 people could swim at the same time. Cutlery placed directly on the tables, which are not always well disinfected. The elevator was dirty with fingerprints. Not nice service at the reception (there were exceptions) once we were informed that breakfast was included and then a fee was charged. If you are looking for a high standard of service is definitely not there.

TUNNINGLY MISMANAGED MARRIOTTI was so excited to stay at this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary weekend and I can honestly say that, thanks to what seems like an utter lack of hospitality training, our anniversary was thoroughly ruined. The staff here act as if they are gatekeepers instead of proper hosts and if youre not cool enough for whatever standards they have set in their heads, then you are shunned. I realize that I am not their ideal demographic, but that should not lead to the utter disrespect that was visited upon us during our stay. First, after making the reservation online, I reached out to the hotels host to explain that it was our anniversary weekend and to ask if we could get a dinner reservation at the hotels restaurant Moriki for our anniversary dinner on October 10th. The host emailed back relatively quickly, but she said that the restaurant was fully booked. She offered an alternative, however, and said they could accommodate us at the rooftop bar and that we could order the same food up there while enjoying the beautiful views over Baden Baden. I was initally excited, but after looking as some photos online, I was a bit worried since the rooftop looked more like a lounge than a proper restaurant and not a place for an anniversary dinner so I emailed the host back asking if she was sure we could enjoy a proper anniversary meal up there. She responded back and assured me we could. Not entirely convinced, I figured Id wait until we arrived at the hotel to look into it further. Still hoping to get into Morikis, immediately after checking in, we visited the restaurant to ask if there was any way we could get a table for dinner that evening, that it was our anniversary, blah, blah, blahnope! All tables were booked and its like that every weekend the young lady told us in a way that seemed to suggest she was proud to be a gatekeeper to the coolest place in Baden Baden as opposed to a host for the guests staying at the hotel. By the way, I would later learn that all tables are booked does not mean that all tables will actually be taken. And this is not because of Corona. People were packed into that place like sardines. Because we were staying at the hotel and were around the restaurant for nearly the entire evening for reasons that will be expanded on below, we were able to see that at least 3 tables were never occupied. Though we were told over and over again that all table were booked. Again, booked does not mean people will actually show up and continually turning away guests of the hotel who are willing to pay for dinner is not only bad for revenue, its simply horrible customer service. Now to the rooftop which we were promised was a perfectly suitable substitute to Moriki--suffice it to say that it is not a proper restaurant by any stretch of the imagination. We ordered drinks and appetizers and tried to enjoy ourselves, but the tiny table was clearly not meant for more than a couple of drinks and it simply could not accommodate more than two appetizer plates at a time. At the same time, bathers coming and going from the rooftop bar passed us in their robes (not in a good way and not the view I had imagined) as the lights were dimmed until we couldnt see our food and the music was turned up until we couldnt hear each other. After a visit to the disgusting WC (see photos), I decided we should end our (expensive) attempt at a romantic anniversary meal on the rooftop and head downstairs to see if perhaps they could find a place for us at the restaurant. Surprise! Fully booked we were told again by the latest gatekeeper to take up the post. At this point, I went to the reception area and asked one of the ladies there if she could call the MOD in the hopes of talking to someone with actual customer service training. She called the MOD, however, no one was answered. In other words, there is no MOD actually on duty it seems, which is something I have never experienced before in any hotel Ive ever worked in, stayed in, or eaten in. Whats the point of having a manager on duty if s/he isnt actually on duty? I have to say that the reception agent seemed empathetic and tried to help, but kept explaining to us that she was new and couldnt do much without a managers approval. Our conversation with her went on for some time and she even walked us over to the restaurant to try and talk them into allowing us to sit at one of the unoccupied tables. No! Fully booked! I explained to the front desk agent that if the host would have simply been truthful with us from the beginning that the rooftop was not a place one can have a proper anniversary dinner, then we would have made reservations elsewhere in the city and we would not have even realized that the Moriki had tables that went unused all night despite their fully booked mantra that they kept repeating like cult members. At any rate, we spent at least 45 minutes with the reception agent as she tried to do what little she could when I asked her to just cancel our second night at the hotel. I was so upset at the whole situation that I really just wanted our stay at this fully booked hell to end. Alas, however, she said she was also unable to cancel the second night and that I would have to do that myself by calling Marriott. Huh? What? Really? Since a significant amount time had passed since we had first come downstairs to the reception area, I asked her to call the MOD again because surely s/he must be back on duty by now. But, nope, no such luck. I guess the MOD was also fully booked on a Saturday night? How could they not be able to cancel my second night? She called the MOD again and again without an answer. Infuriating. Believe it, or not, the gaffes continued that night and into the next morning as we checked out, but for the sake of brevity, Ill end this review now. Let this serve as a warning, however, to all who dont fit into whatever demographic this hotel is aiming forif you want to be treated like a proper guest at a properly managed hotel, you should consider this one fully booked and look elsewhere.
