Kind staff and Onsen open all night long (closed in AM after breakfast for cleaning)

We got the room with the ocean foot and foot spa. It was so so so nice. I loved the fresh air blowing through as they were cleaning the rooms. This was the most comfortable futon we slept in anywhere in Japan. They even turned the futons out for us on the second evening. So nice! This place is really all about the breakfast! The first day we were seated in a communal room, sitting on the floor. The second day we had a little private dining room with a sea view. I don't know how you'd arrange that, but it was so nice. Every dish in this Japanese style breakfast was so tasty and beautiful too. The service all throughout is genuinely kind and helpful. Had a bit of banter with the staff too, good fun! It feels like a happy place. The public onsen for residents is open all night. It was so nice after a long day of touristing to come up and have a soak. I had the whole place to myself at 11pm! We also rented the family onsen on the roof. So cool! Very nice views of Beppu from up there. We had yukata - thankfully in two sizes. All kinds of little amenities are provided, which helps if you forget anything. I heard so many nice things about the dinners - and I'd go back to try them. It's just that they are so close to some other great restaurants. Some people commented on the older decor of this lobby. In a few years it will be vintage. Just stick with it, it's charming and comfortable.

    OK

It is a OK hotel, staff can speak in Chinese (Mandarin). The location of hotel is near the seaside, so that need to take a bus from train station to the hotel. Room is OK, food is OK. Spa is small, and NO good at all.

    nice Ryokan in Beppu

We stayed in this Ryokan (apr. 37 rooms) in August 2018 in a spacious Japanes family room with a small balcony overlooking the bay. The walk from the station takes 10 minutes. The hotel has very friendly staff and excellent Wi-Fi. The bathroom is very small. The room has excellent lighting, a refrigerator and a water cooker and you can make your own tea. Diner is a 7-course meal (small portions) and rather expensive ( 45) and not good value for money. Breakfast is 100% Japanese, including salad, soup, fish and rice. There is a 7-Eleven supermarket 3 min.walk from the Ryokan.

    Plastic is not for eating

I stayed here with my Japanese wife for 1 night. We booked 1 room with the onsen bath and even if the room was relatively small we were quite impressed. But the first problem popped up in less than 30 minutes. From the shower room a long and incredibly loud flushed-water noise transformed the atmosphere of the room in a big toilet. And it wasnt even us! It was from the rooms next to ours, that how it was explained by the kind staff member, were all connected by the pipelines. We explained that we couldnt stay there, as if it happened at night we wouldnt be able to sleep. They agreed to change our room, so the problem was solved. Then we went to dinner, and here was the second problem. While eating some vegetables my wife risked to swallow a freaking piece of plastic, coming from the wrapping they used for the vegetables (see pic). Better not to think what would have happened if it was served to a child. After complaining, another staff member came to apologize. Upon check out, they agreed to waive the fees for the drinks (around 2000JPY), but for 22,000JPY per person, this service was unacceptable to say the least.

    Amazing stay

I spent 2 nights here on Nov.2018. The moment when I get into the hotel was like coming home. There are several staffs at the front desk can speak English, and a senior(maybe the boss?)help to carry my luggage. The front desk guys can even remember my name! Their breakfast was pretty great! Very Japanese style and you can enjoy the sea view while having breakfast. The private onsen there is wonderful! It is a must stay hotel in Beppu, believe me.
