Standard to high quality hotelMy first trip in my life is to Hokkaido in May 2004. (As I am an extreme Japan lover!!) My langauge are English and Japanese, so there was no any language problems for me to live in this hotel. In general, the staff can do English, up to standard level. Rooms are clean. One thing I do not really like is that, they provided western breakfast, instead of Japanese one, for sometimes.

A comfortable HotelNear Abashiri station. And beautiful hotel. Breakfast I have a fried fish and tasty. You can take Japanese style or European style. I like Japanese style better. And i think it is useful because of near the station.

A good quality, centrally located hotel. Our room was larger than most in Japan & well equipped. Staff were friendly and welcoming, of particular note was the attention to detail of the housekeeping staff. The room cleaning was meticulous. The western style breakfast was very good. There is a convenience store next door and a good selection of restaurants within walking distance. The bus station is a 2 minute walk and the railway station about 10 minutes distant.

Met our needsThere does not seem to be a lot of great options in Abashiri and the A. Central Hotel is solid if a bit boring. The least impressive thing about our visit was reception, when I checked that the room we were allocated was non-smoking, which I had specifically booked. It was not and the first response was that the non-smoking rooms were taken, but then they did find a room. Not impressed as I had paid more to ensure specifically a non-smoking room. Once that was sorted, we were shown to a very spacious room that was comfortable and well furnished. The hotel is reasonably located - a short drive from the railway station and has parking, which we needed for our hire car. THe breakfast that we had paid for as part of the package was OK - we had the Japanese breakfast - fairly standard, adequate but nothing special. The foyer reeks of stale tobacco but the room was fine. There are no extra facilities at the hotel and we chose to eat for dinner.

Reliable but dullWestern/Japanese room was about the same size as a standard European hotel room and was quite comfortable. The hotel itself is quite dated in its appearance and decor and could benefit from a makeover. Although the room was billed as a smoking room, it was pleasantly smoke-free. But once outside the door, the stench of cigarettes from other rooms in the corridor was appalling. Japan needs to go the whole way and ban smoking in all public buildings. Breakfast was very good for either the western or Japanese offering and both were hearty enough to last all day. Most of the front desk staff could speak English and the hotel is a few minutes away from the bus station where you can connect with the airport coach. Ten minutes walk away is the railway station. There is a 7-11 shop next door for snacks and the local shopping street is one block away. It does not have much to offer however and appears to be suffering from urban blight. Take warm clothes and waterproof boots in winter. A short walk away is the Abashiri civic art gallery which is not very impressive.
