    Great comfortable room

A quiet spot the pub has four new rooms two overlooking the car park (great views of the ridge from here, red kites in the next field...). Our room had a v comfy bed, a small but good wetroom and was exceptionally well equipped with a proper chest of drawers, a hanging cupboard and tea and coffee equipment. Breakfast the next morning was mixed. Good ingredients in the cooked breakfast (sausage and bacon especially) but it was tepid not even warm which was a shame. Coffee was instant so it would have been five stars but for the breakfast. Strict adherence to hygiene standards as a result of the covid crisis which was good to see. Would I stay here again? Yes if I was in the area but I wouldn't go too far out of my way. The bill was £95. Oh and the beer was good.

Sunday lunch after walk at Uffington horse

Overall the food was very average. I had the roast beef Sunday lunch which was very tasty, hot and good portion size. My other family members had the burger and chips which they described as being very average. The one thing which really upset us was the length of time we had to wait for our main courses. This was over one hour by the time we finished our starters and the pub wasnt even that busy. I do expect that due to COVID 19 that everything would be slightly slower but to wait for an hour and ten minutes for your main course is totally unacceptable. Probably wont go back, will try another pub next time we are around that area.

Perfect spot for walking The Ridgeway.

We booked here for a weekend of walking The Ridgeway and enjoying the stunning landscape of the North Wessex Downs. The staff were friendly and attentive, the room was large, spotlessly clean and well laid out and the pub was charming. Walking in the area is a delight so the pub is really well placed and the view to the White Horse Hill is gorgeous. The breakfast is sourced locally and was very welcomed!

A delightful country pub. Well done to Michael the landlord !

Stayed overnight last Saturday and ate in the pub with two other couples. Evening food and breakfast were of excellent quality and prepared to top restaurant standard. The real ale was superb -'Bonkers Conkers'. Finally the room we stayed in was large, well equipped and the bed super wide and most comfortable :) The sight of the sun rise over the hill made our trip a real weekend break. This was our second stay and we will definitely stay again. Thanks to Michael for running a truly fabulous country pub.

    Friends Lunch

Choose this cosy picturesque pub as a lunchtime venue. Bit off the beaten track, but a worthy find. I was attracted to with reasonably priced menu, with a good variety of choices. I was told there is a good choice of ales, I rarely drink (driving). I was impressed with my Gammon Chump Steak, nicely presented and very tasty, my friends had steak burgers & Trimmings, and we rounded off with some excellent puddings. This is a place I recommend, and will use again
