  Meal out with Family

  We've been a few times for food and enjoyed it, however on this occasion we found the staff quite unfriendly and inconsistent with informing us what was sold out on the menu. When we ordered we werent told that the crackling wasn't available with the pork. My husband asked if we could have 1 course and what would the price be instead of the 2 courses advertised on the menu and the bar mans response was rude and short "well yes and it'll be cheaper...tut" I was holding my baby with nappy and wipes in hand, I asked the waitress owner, where is the toilet please and she pointed me to them. When I got in there wasn't a baby change so I walked out! I went back to the bar and asked her "Do you have a baby change sorry I couldn't see one in the toilet?" She tutted and muttered under her breath that it was at the other end of the pub! From start to finish the staff and owners were just rude with mannerisms and replies!

  POOR food/wrong food

  We revisited the Shakespear after having experienced a poor group meal during the festive period a year ago and thought we would put it down as a one-off. The issue is when 2 off the group order a Red Thai curry sizzler and whats delivered is a thick Indian based almost masala/balti texture and flavour. As we all know thia is coconut milk-based, not thick tomato and always consist of mang tout/fresh greens etc, and not fried onion and mushrooms. Upon raising the issue with the staff who are always polite until you have a question or query, I was met with a frown, almost suggestive look i was bonkers and said they would take my concern to the chef. So that was the last conversation to be had, the staff never returned, bypassed the table and behaved as if the issue never existed. Now if I had of complained in a robust, disrespectful manner in part you may expect to be ignored, instead, the conversation was polite, discreet, low key so not to deter other members of our table enjoyment and yet nothing in the way of customer service or satisfaction was experienced. At £15 a dish you can expect to experience and enjoy a much more rewarding meal travelling either side of the river away from the Shakespeare. Something i would suggest others consider perhaps before chancing your luck. Writing a review is not my usual but on this instance it deserves nothing more

  Little Treat

  Visited with partner, who has never been before during governments 50% off meals offer. Food was lovely and fresh, and worth the wait. We didnt opt for starter (or dessert) as the mains where more filling than we expected Definatley worth a visit

  Great Food

  After 3 days of poor food we found this gem and really loved it. Brilliant quesadilla and chorizo Rossi starter followed by a steak pie and a sizzler. Huge amount of meat in both and cooked really well and tasty. Great drinks selection and service from friendly staff; well worth a re-visit.

  Absolute hidden gem

  Wow, just wow, cant recommend this place enough, weve just returned from a three night stay, myself, my husband and the in-laws in the next room. All of us absolutely loved it and will definitely be back, we had a lovely meal in the pub on our final night which was extremely yummy and you definitely won't go hungry!! Thank you so much guys, keep up the excellent work.
