    DISGRACEFUL

Having stayed here on 4 other occasions we were looking forward to our stay. This is were it ends. Booked two nights with reservation in bar on both nights. On first night was told we would be eating in restaurant as would be noisy in bar due to New Year Celebrations, what did they think we were there for. Complained and table was sorted. Second night went down to bar to eat to be told no food being served as hotel closes tomorrow for winter. Complaining got us no where so packed bags and left. Will be staying elsewhere when we visit Bude again.

Id love to tell you what the hotel was like but I cant...read on!

We booked a room for 6 nights at Tommy Jacks back in September 2018 and were really looking forward to our get away from work stay. We drove down to Bude from London and when we went to check in we found out that the hotel was closed for refurbishment. Thanks a lot for letting us know! We managed to book a room at another hotel (the last room they had available) but it wasnt near the beach, it was on a noisier road and there was no car park apart from the long stay car park about a quarter of a mile away. Most other hotels in the area were sold out so we were pretty lucky to get a room at all. I wouldnt have minded if the hotel had contacted us and said that there was now a refurbishment planned - these things happen. But there was no contact whatsoever. This is appalling customer service and I will definitely not be booking at this establishment again. I am also going to take advice on whether we are due compensation for extra expenses incurred. You have been warned........ Stay away from this hotel!

    Perfect apartment great location

Stayed here for one week the end of September for my birthday. Arrived and was a little disappointed by the look of the place, but once in our ground floor apartment no1 it was fantastic. It was like a brand new huge flat, couldn't ask for more. Perfwct location with its own bar called rum and chicken and also was like new.had great coast walk and canal walks right on the door step. Nice restaurants, we ate in the DECK very nice food also ate in SEA FEAVER (well recommended) NEED TO BOOK WELL IN ADVANCE. Padstow is 1 hr away. Only a couple of negative points ...water pressure was low and the temperature wasn't hot enough. Apart from that we couldn't fault it will be keeping it in mind for future visits.

    Brilliant location but...

We stayed here for a week in October. The location could not have been better, so close to the beach and the coastal path, which is exactly what we wanted. Also a couple of really good cafes and restaurants within walking distance. The apartment was for 6, however there was only 4 of us and felt the kitchen was far to small even for us. It lacked basic equipment eg clothes horse for drying. The TVs kept going off with lack of signal and in October when its dark outside you do need a tv. We didnt feel it secure to use the drying room downstairs as the outside door was always left open and I didnt want to leave my wetsuit where anyone could walk in and take it. There was a bar downstairs meaning in the evenings there were more people coming in off the street, this was never mentioned in the details when we booked. The parking which was supposed to be only for apartment guests was used by the takeaway food people and the builders working next door. Sadly I wouldnt book these apartments again, but I would stay somewhere else in the same location.

Great Location - but basic in comfort

This review is for the Tommy Jacks 1st floor Apartment (Apt 2) for 6 people not the hotel. The apartments are in the same building as the hotel. The accommodation definitely has its good and bad points. On the plus side, its a great location (which you already know and is probably why you booked it). Parking off season is usually available just outside the building but if not, usually plenty of room on the street, or free parking in the public car park across the way after 6pm. The apartment was clean and all the booking information and instructions were clear and accurate. The property has a very small kitchen and it would not be possible to cook for 6 in a kitchen so small - we struggled to do a bit of breakfast for 3! But it is well equipped (you will need to bring your own coffee machine though). Microwave, oven, grill, small hob and extractor fan/hood all work well as do the dishwasher and fridge (which has a small ice box). There were only four forks though so if you are a party of more than four, you will need to bring some cutlery. Plenty of plates, glasses, mugs. There are no cupboards for storing food but there is a butchers trolley you can use to put things on. There was a teatowel provided as well as washing up sponge, a cloth, washing up liquid, and one tab for the dishwasher and one tab for the washing machine. Washer and separate dryer were located downstairs in the laundry - both new and efficient machines - free to use - although I may have chosen a long cycle as it seemed to take an age to run a cotton 40 degree wash. Dog washing room with dog bath is located in a separate room in the laundry and is excellent.Vacuum and floor cleaning equipment stored in the very small kitchen so a little inconvenient but there really wasnt anywhere else to store them to be fair. Bathrooms - these were the low point really. Although the booking information says no towels are provided this turned out to be not the case - which was irritating as Id taken up quite a lot of packing space bringing 3 large bath towels. There were no hand towels provided though. No shelves in bathrooms so nowhere to keep bathroom items, no heaters in the bathrooms so towels did not dry before next use. No hooks on which to hang said towels. Showers were a bit lame (not powerful at all) so required a bit of running around in the the bath tub or shower cubicle in order to get wet. The water was lovely and hot though 99% of the time. The living room is pleasant enough - sofas not wildly comfortable. The Smart TV was not smart - no smart hub so no catchup tv or streaming apps available. Bring a laptop and HDMI lead. The dining table is very very small for 6. Better for 3. Bedrooms - The third bedroom did not have a TV as advertised (all bedrooms have TVs) and is also very very small. The second bedroom is not much larger. The main bedroom was very large - but the heater in there did not work at all - I emailed the owners on the first day to ask them to get it fixed as it made the bedroom really cold - but I did not get an answer. So a freezing cold bedroom, no heater in the bathroom, wet towels - made things a less pleasant than they could have been. Heaters in the other bedrooms and the living room worked ok. Beds were ok - quite firm - duvets seem thin on first look but they are warm enough (other than in the very cold main bedroom!). There was a distinct lack of soft lighting - none of the bedrooms had lamps - only the main light or tiny reading lights attached to the headboard. There was one floor lamp in the living room. Overall, the apartment has a very studenty feel - all the doors self close (which is inconvenient, anti-social and also dangerous for any pets staying with you - I would recommend bringing or buying doorstops as we did to wedge the doors open). The furnishings are quite basic and sparse - would be good to have some hooks on the bedroom and bathroom doors, some lamps in the bedrooms etc. Windows were quite dirty so looking out over the lovely view of Bude and the sea was masked a little. There are plenty of coat hooks in the corridor which was useful. There is only one key provided so you will have to make use of the key press outside the front door if you wish to have people coming and going at different times. If you are a surfer and looking for simple accommodation close to the beach then it will suit you better than a family looking for a comfortable stay.
