    basic 3 star hotel

Arrived after a late flight (11.30pm) welcomed by friendly staff and offered a light meal. Shown to room on floor 6 in block 4 which is a short walk away from the main building. Room was clean neat & tidy with shower & sea view to the front (no balconies) overlooking blocks 2 and 3. There is a building site on the road in to the complex which blocks the full sea view. Rooms on floors 1/2/3 & 4 will only have partial sea views here. Room has safe, mini bar & kettle but no tea or coffee service. Restaurant buffet looks small but there is a large al fresco dining area. Food was well cooked with mainly Turkish style dishes & like most continental hotels it was not very hot compared to English restaurants. No real fruit juice at breakfast & only Turkish tea & coffee. 5 bars around the hotel which serve warm Efes beer from cans & local brewed spirits. Only 2 bars have Efes on tap which is colder. Murphies bar is the international bar with branded spirits. Good sized pool 1.4 metres all round, jacuzzi & childrens section. Plenty of sun beds even with people grabbing them before breakfast. 2 beach areas. 1 shallow sandy beach with a stream that runs under the hotel & in to the lagoon which can get a little smelly. There was no lifeguard here.1 deeper pebbly beach with a lifeguard on duty. Again plenty of sun beds on both beaches. Watch out for the little fishes that nibble your toes. The Spa is good but a little pricey. Be aware that various things around the hotel are charged in Lira & some things like the Spa are charged in Euro. The entertainment was a bit hit & miss due to the late season. The staff at all levels are very friendly & try to help as best they can. Guests can also use the facilities of The Oscar Hotel next door. A good base to tour the north of Cyprus. After dark there is no street lighting so be aware of where you are walking the pavements & roads are very uneven.

    Not a 5 star hotel

My wife and I stayed at this hotel from the 13th Oct to the 20th Oct. I read some of the reviews saying how friendly and helpful the staff were. Sorry but I totally disagree with that, I found that most of the staff were not interested in their guests ,especially some of the reception staff. We started our holiday in room 4408 ( the newest block ) which was a nice room with plenty of space & very nicely furnished but the air conditioning stopped working in the middle of the night. This continued for 3 days with 5 visits from the technical team in that period, all to no avail. On the fourth day we went to reception after breakfast & told them we wanted a different room as it was unacceptable that the air conditioning had been fixed 5 times in 3 days. The reception staff said she would send a maintenance man to fix it, I said no & insisted that we change rooms .She called the maintenance guy anyway who then must have told her he had tried to fix it 5 times. So we got another room, same block , same level & surprise, surprise the air conditioning didnt work there either, tried another 2 rooms before the penny dropped that there must be a problem on that whole level with the air conditioning. We then got another room on a different level & the room was really nice ( 4213), but the very next day there was torrential rain and much to our amusement the water started pouring in through the roof next to the balcony doors. We ended up filling 2 big buckets of rain water & yet again got the impression that the staff werent really interested, although 3 of them did come to look at the torrents of rain coming into our room & put down 2 towels on the sodden carpet ( job done !! ). For some reason they shut the pool bar & also the downstairs snack bar on our second day but we saw the cook making pizza in the downstairs snack bar , so we ordered pizza for our lunch, only to be told that pizza was not available ?????. When we queried this the waiter responded that he didnt speak any English. This was also the response when we asked why the majority of sun beds had been removed downstairs to storage & the remainder all moved to the shaded side of the pool ( this happened on a daily basis, this area received limited sun ). We asked if we could move our sun bed to a sunny area by the pool( the same place it was the days before )but were told no as it was dangerous - again being told they couldnt speak English when I asked why it was dangerous. These are only a few of the issues we encountered & although on the surface the hotel appears to look very nice, the issues we encountered & responses received completely ruined our holiday. As a rated 5 star hotel the staff certainly do not meet the standard required for the rating. The impression given is that they are there to work & not to interact, help or support guests. We have been holidaying in Northern Cyprus for many, many years & have never experienced such treatment. It was evident to us that the staff were more attentive to local casino users & certain European nationals. We will not come back to this hotel & I would not recommend it at all as it appears that certain nationalities dont matter.

    North Cyprus 2019 vacation

Friendly staff, really nice weather, stayed there for 7 nights. Try booking the room in the main block, we were booked in the second block and we had to go aprox. 5-7 minutes to get breakfast/supper/dinner. It has a big pool, a sand beach and a rock beach, free sun chairs and umbrellas. We also visited the Kyrenia port, Kyrenia center and a couple of other places that we with a guide.

    Flooded bathroom

Stayed here for 4 nights as part of a package deal with RSD travel. It is one of the hotels they use along with Salamis Bay Conti Hotel near Famagusta which was an excellent hotel. The first opinion of this hotel was good with nice entrance area and foyer. The rooms were well equipped with a mini bar (not free), armchair etc. The beds were on the firm side for us and the pillows on the soft side. We didn't watch TV but some of our party who did said there was no signal. There was no kettle in the room which is normal for North Cyprus as the tap water is not safe to drink even after being boiled. The waiters in the breakfast room were very polite and friendly, the breakfast room itself was a good size and overlooking the sea which was nice and the breakfast selection was always very good, there was everything you could want from cooked items, breads, waffles, pastries, fruit, cereals etc. We were in a separate block from the restaurant so had to walk across the outdoor area to it each morning, we didn't have evening meal included so can't comment on that but I thoroughly recommend a restaurant called Alesta which is a 10 min walk up near the main road. They also have a bar with a pool table and TV that we enjoyed while there with a very friendly bar man. Now for the problem of the bathroom. Other people in our holiday party had said that their rooms had had leaks and a sewage smell coming from under the bath we just thought it was a one off until I had a shower and when I got out noticed that the bathroom floor was literally flooded with about one inch of water. I had done everything possible to avoid it and the shower curtain had been in the bath etc, it was so bad it had come out of the bathroom into the doorway area of the main room and the carpet was soaked. We went over to reception in the main block and the receptionist said it was a common problem and they would be over to fix it. A man come to fix it a couple of hours later, he didn't say anything (presumably he couldn't speak English) and just got on with the job and then went not saying if it had been fixed or not so we assumed it had. The following afternoon we were in the hotel room at around 4pm trying to get a couple of hours sleep before our flight at 3am the following morning, we had put the do not disturb sign on the door but someone was trying to enter and was banging on the door and shouting outside and then the telephone rang which was reception, obviously waking us all up. It turns out they had come back to fix the bath again, which we thought had been fixed and had had no warning that someone was going to come back again. Needless to say we were not happy and had only had about 45 mins sleep, when I complained to reception that we had not been told the job wasn't finished and that they had to come back the man on reception just shrugged his shoulders. Not very good customer service.
