  Sensational Solitude

  Located well away from a population other than residents from one of the other three cottages, which themselves are well secluded, Catlins Mohua Park offers guests a place to simply become absorbed into the scenery and tranquillity. Following an exceptionally friendly welcome from the owner (Lyndon) who also provided considerable information about the Catlins sights, we were directed to our cottage which was surrounded by bush on three sides and an exceptional rural scene out front. This later part could be even more enjoyed by the fact that the entire front was also a large, wonderful glass sliding door opening onto a small verandah. The cottage was also very well appointed, with many items likely to be found in five-star motel rooms. This included a large comfortable bed, coffee maker, comfortable furnishings, a table where one tried to work when not distracted by the scenery and wildlife, and Bar-B-Que (outside). There is no television however, so there is ample opportunity to either do one of the many bushwalks on the property enjoying the abundant birdlife, reading a book, or simply relaxing. There is also a strong commitment of eco-friendliness, which simply endears you even more to its entirety. While located at some distance from the nearest town, this never seems to be an issue which would cause you to regret your decision to stay.

  Perfect combination of seclusion, location and high end facilities

  Just spent three nights here and it was a great choice. As good (or better) than all of the rave reviews. Great hosts and great facilities. Perfect rural outlook from very well equipped and spotless cottage. Took the ATV Coastal trip and even in the rain, it was a worthwhile and memorable experience. Answered all our city folk questions about farming and then down to the beach accessible in no other way. Good location for seeing the sites of the Catlins. Although remote, actually only ten minutes off the main north south road.

  How to relax and enjoy the area

  From the time we arrived until we left our very comfortable a secluded cabin four days later we enjoyed the solitude ,views and nearness of areas of interest in the upper Catlins area. If you just want somewhere to relax and unwind then this is the place whether you self cater as we did or use the catered package. Gill & Lyndon are there for you if required or you are just allowed to do your own thing. Don't be put off by the 7 km of unsealed road the drive up it is vey scenic . The tours that Lyndon offers are worth considering if you do not want to walk any great distance to see the sights. We would certainly return here .

  An amazing private, peaceful and beautiful place to stay. The hosts have considered all the little things, including a toothbrush holder, that many places don't think of. They were very friendly and helpful. We absolutely loved our stay and would definitely come back. Have already been recommending it to others.

  Fabulous retreat in the Catlins

  The Catlins are a place of remote beauty and the Mohua eco resort is remote within that. The silence at night is bliss, stars bright in a black sky, green lush fields unfold before you. Good WiFi in the cottages, which is rare in the area and most wonderfully, a warm, generous invitation to a fabulous hangi onsite and the company of lovely locals. We enjoyed it very much. Make sure you take the ATV tour, it runs through stunning private land that you'd never see otherwise. Cottages are compact but carefully appointed. The kitchen area is pretty small but has all the essential equipment we needed.
