  Following the winter closure...

  We had two overnight stays recently. Our family has stayed here regularly over the past 25+ years. In this time we have noticed and experienced changes as you would expect. However, some changes have not been for the good. For example, the loss of both the manager and then the deputy manager through retirement led to just a part-time manager being employed with a reduced level of service. The hotel was closed from before Christmas last year to March due to the lack of visitors. However, the auberge/restaurant just a 100 metres away stayed open and benefited from Les Dhuit's closure. Our first stay in early April coincided with an overnight stay by a coach party and a few other guests. The part-time manager was on duty. The evening meal menu was restricted and the meal we had was not memorable. The highlight was the Ratafia aperitif. Our meal was interrupted by the manager changing the lamp on our table and on other tables as well. This maintenance should have been undertaken when the restaurant was not in use. Overnight was quiet although we were woken by the noise of the dustcart at 5.30. Breakfast was restricted too. There was no cheese, the fruit juicer was covered and not to be used and the egg boiler was out of use with no eggs available. I don't know if these restrictions were due to the presence of the coach party which had breakfasted earlier. Our return overnight stay later in April was different as the manager was not on duty. The staff were as pleasant as ever and more relaxed. Fewer guests were staying this time with no coach party staying. Again, the evening meal was not memorable although we enjoyed the aperitif. The following morning, there was a significant improvement to the buffet breakfast. There were 3 types of cheese, there were eggs to boil (with the boiler in action) and the juicer was ready for use. We look forward to coming to Colombey in the future but we will be looking to stay and dine elsewhere.

  Dreadful place

  This place is very run down and extremely shabby. There is a tired air about the whole place. The photo of the sofas in reception will give you an idea! (cant load photo - believe me its condition is torn with stuffing coming out) The room smelt and the staff were clearly under pressure - to the point where they ignored us for five minutes whilst we were standing at reception waiting to pay and then carried on an argument between themselves whilst preparing our bills. Very unprofessional.

  Good value travel stop hotel with helpful staff

  Used this hotel as a stop over to Italy many times. It has just been renovated and is nice and clean. Anyone who gives this place a bad review is a moron. It is set in a rural setting close to Troyes/Chaumont and is perfect.

  Good overnight stay or peaceful retreat

  We were travelling through so only stayed the one night but this location is also good if you want a few quiet, few relaxing days in the countryside. The local village has some good restaurants and the memorial to Charles de Gaulle is nearby. The hotel itself is on the main road through the village and so very easy to find with a good car park out front. The reception area is very attractive but beware of the stuffed boar! Reception staff do not have a good grasp of English. The room we had was large but quite old fashioned with a bed that appeared to struggle to raise itself off the floor. However, it was comfortable enough. We had an evening meal and breakfast in the hotel and both were of a good standard and reasonably priced

  Unreliable

  I booked a room direct with the hotel website and had confirmation. This was a couple of weeks before travelling. Two days before I would have arrived, I had an e-mail to say they could not honour my booking as the hotel was being privately used for the week. I was offered alternative accommodation at least 20 minutes away by car. When I spoke to the hotel chain, they could not tell me why my booking had been confirmed. I decided to cancel my other booking I had made for later in the month. This hotel is unreliable.
