  Fairway pub food, only.

  Service, as a new customer we arrived for our booking and waited at an empty receptionist desk. No information no wait here notice no apology when someone asked me if I was ok, and seemed surprised I had a booking, Seated, and no further information about procedures offered. A bit of a wrestling match with the app but managed to place an order. I was offered a tray of drinks while we were waiting for our order. They were not for us. The service the atmosphere and the decor were poor. Food. When our order arrived, fish and chips for me, I was wary of the slightly dark batter and the distinct glisten on the surface of it. The accompanying chips looked a bit distressed. The were not chips, my best description would be pieces of potato varying in size from the length of a normal chip to the size of my little fingernails. They had something on them, skin I hope, and tasted of nothing except grease, they were actually chewy. The fish was way over cooked and dry, the batter was indescribably bad, the glistening I had noticed was pure grease. I have been retired for ten years and have been round the block a bit in the consumption of fish and chips all over the UK and abroad. I can honestly say this is the worst I have ever tasted. I did not eat it. I would possibly have complained, but there was no staff to complain to, we had been sitting beside a table which had not been cleared throughout our meal. I cannot find a kind word to say about the whole experience, I could not even seek out the management, words would have failed me. As someone who seeks to support local businesses when visiting new areas, this is a really bad example as far as I am concerned. I must say I am disappointed on Barnsleys behalf, but would ask readers not to judge Yorkshire on it, Yorkshire is better than this.

  Birthday

  Reserved table for a special occasion for 10 of us who traveled far and wide only to find that our table was taken by 12 other people .... once we asked why was told we cant guarantee your table ...... what is the point in reserving it for then ??? Only interested in money and not customers !!! Totally disgusting service ... and the woman called Tracy needs to view what customer service actually means !!! We will never eat here again !!!!!

  Disgusting

  Came here for grandsons 1st birthday. On a table of 6 we had 2 sharing starters. Waited over an hour for mains to arrive. When it did the food was at best tepid/cold - burgers hard & dry fish dripping in 1/2 cooked fat. The only satisfying thing about this place is WALKING OUT!!

  Fabulous lunch

  Went for lunch today with one friend who was anxious about the social distancing, but as soon as we got there we agreed there was no cause for concern as their arrangements were brilliant and we felt very at ease and comfortable. This establishment serves good quality pub grub, we both had the roast of the day which was well cooked and well presented. Please note that if you order this meal you had better be hungry as the portions are large to say the least, but nevertheless it was delicious. The staff were very pleasant, attentive and accommodating.

  Grim!

  Room was depressingly grim, I didnt look clean but Im not sure if that was because it was so dark and old looking. Every time anyone moves, the floorboards creek, in the corridor the room ceiling everywhere, creak creak creak, it drove me mad. Seriously Ive never stayed in such a grim room and the view looked over the roundabout, to top it off. Restaurant was shut so couldnt comment on that.
