    Great stay

Beautiful and charming old fashioned hotel in a very central location near the ski lifts. Very pleasant room with all amenities. Restaurant and bar at the premises. View towards the mountains. Local restaurants and shopping on the door step.

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in.

We (a well travelled group of 7 adults) stayed here in December 2019 and we rate this hotel as excellent. The staff are absolutely superb, friendly, efficient and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is beautiful, spotlessly clean and exudes charm. Fabulous food, we really enjoyed the breakfast buffet. The hotels central position in Åre meant it was perfect for the slopes and for enjoying the town.

Character and comfort in the town centre

Just returned from an 8 night stay at the Hotel on a ski trip. Perfect location - 3 mins walk to the ski hire shop in the town square and just 4 mins walk to the nearest lift (the funicular) or 6 mins to the chair. When you return you can ski to within 50 metres of the cental square, so the walk back to the hotel is easy. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly throughout without being too formal - the day always started with cheerful (and sincere) greetings in the breakfast room. Although the hotel is essentially an old building the rooms are all a good size - even the standard dbl room (with a street view) was large with en-suite shower and WC. We opted for breakfast only - a huge offering of different cereals, hot foods and pastries to set any skier up for the day ahead. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening, so can't comment on the evening meals offered or prices. Ski equipment was kept in a secure room (accessed by electronic key) with heated boot racks which dried the boots overnight and dessicated the skiers heading out who lingered too long in getting their gear on. Places for hanging wet ski gear on return from the slopes were more of an issue, but as the bathroom floor had underfloor heating, we simply left ski jackets lying there overnight and they dried out by morning again. Within the hotel there's a huge sitting area - very comfortable for just looking out of the window at the seemingly endless number of prams going past! The bar is also comfortable but be prepared to pay the higher prices for alcohol in Sweden a G&T cost about £17, so consider taking duty free. Wheelchair access in the hotel is possible, with the hotel having lifts which could, in theory get you not just to the different floors, but also to the ski equipment room, although the section outside the boot room does have 6 or 7 wooden steps to street level. Why rate this comfortable, cozy hotel as being very good and not excellent? Occasional street noise (not the hotel's fault) around midnight as some bars emptied was occasionally an irritant as was the overly-noisy air conditioning in the room when dozing off at the end of the day. Then, as already mentioned, there was the lack of drying space for wet ski gear once back from the slopes. That said I'd still thoroughly recommend this hotel for a visit to this lovely ski area.

    Classy and convenient

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left (sadly early due to you-know-what), this was a superb experience. A classy, dignified and classical hotel which is comfortable with just the right levels of informality and service. We arrived, slightly bedraggled off the night sleeper train and a short, uphill walk from the railway station. We were welcomed as valued guests, offered breakfast (superb in every respect) and our room was readied. The Aregarden is dead handy for the lively town square, shops, restaurants, the station, ski bus stops and the ski lifts. The ski room is well appointed with the usual racking and boot warmers. Our double room was large enough with a large bathroom with shower; all the amenities one would expect from a hotel in this price range. The public rooms are comfortable and welcoming and we enjoyed a nightcap in the bar before heading up for a very comfortable night's sleep. As rapidly changing travel arrangements threatened, we had to leave early but the staff were very happy to allow us to check out but still hold the room until we had safely reached home. A very nice touch for which we were extremely grateful. We aim to return before we are too much older!
