    Pretty hotel; awful odor

The main hotel is very pretty from the outside but has a tremendous stale cigarette smoke odor throughout. The rooms are bearable if the windows are open. The other buildings didnt have the cigarette smell. I was disappointed with the way my room was cleaned after the first night. Rather than making the bed, they simply removed the one duvet & pulled the other clean one over (leaving the other side bare). The used glasses were still in my bathroom, where I left them. Overall, it was an okay hotel. I wouldnt choose to stay here again, though.

    Perfect hotel for walking holiday

I will admit I was quite apprehensive about our forthcoming stay at The Feldmeier - reviews are very mixed. Actually we found it to be perfect for our stay in Oberammergau. Our room was spotlessly clean, plenty of space and very quiet (we were in the annex). I do think we become quite sanitised about what we expect from travelling - this was a three star hotel and yes, the owners didnt have much English but doesnt that add a charm and challenge to travelling? They are certainly different to many hoteliers I have experienced before but that doesnt make it a bad thing. Food was plentiful if basic. Dinner was four courses each evening. For what we paid, the location and cleanliness I thought this was just right for our walking holiday.

    Terrible

I arrived after a long travel around Europe, I had a printed booking reservation but the landlady affirmed my books was for the follow day in a pretty rude way. Instead of looking for a solution she made me go away without anywhere to sleep.

Very good as a base for skiing

The other reviews on TA are mixed. Our experience was generally good. The hotel is split into two buildings. We were staying in the Haus 3 at the rear. It looks new and purpose built. It was spotlessly clean and well-maintained. Overall it was perfect. Our room (a family room) had a bed on a mezzanine which was fantastic if a little awkward to get up to. Daughter loved it. I'm not sure the staff who have to make the beds will think the same. Haus 3 has plenty of parking round the back - with a small yard that is a little difficult to manoeuvre round. The room was quiet, comfortable and warm. There was a mini-kitchen area which was convenient and a coffee percolator which was fantastic. Yes we had to go out and buy some filter coffee but once we had, it was great to come back to after a day's skiing. There is also a minibar and like most hotels in Germany, the minibar is not overpriced but quite reasonable (2 for a beer). The main hotel is much the same although (as noted elsewhere) in the rear entrance and rear restaurant there is a stale smell of cigarette smoke. Smoking inside is a more recent thing in Germany than the UK so we forget how much it made everything smell. The breakfast is ok - it's not huge or the biggest choice ever, but equally it's a 3* and not a 5* hotel. It is what I expect from a simple modest Gasthof and perfectly fits with what you need before a day of skiing or anything else. The little bar area is quite nice but lacks a comfortable sitting space. The spa and sauna underground is again very new and clean - if that's your sort of thing then it will be great. There's no actual gym despite what some advertising seems to imply. I think a misunderstanding of what a 'wellness area' means. In terms of location, Oberammergau is 10km from Oberau on the main road, and if you're skiing then you're probably heading to Garmisch and beyond. It takes 30-40 minutes to drive to the Garmisch Alpspitze ski area car park depending on the traffic through Garmisch. Going further into Austria (on the same Garmisch ski-ticket), you can get to Lermoos or Ehrwald in just less than 1 hour. It is possible to have a ski holiday in the Garmisch-Zugspitze area from Oberammergau, although I'd say next time I'd prefer to be a little closer. The Oberammergau family ski area is small - 1 chair and a couple of short tows. It's much more dependent on natural snow than the bigger resorts too. We didn't actually go this time although we did go and look. I wouldn't think it would hold enough interest for anything more than a couple of hours at most depending on what level you're at. So - pretty much all positive. The family (staff) were pleasant. I think the Bavarian attitude can be a bit abrupt which some people might misinterpret as rude depending on the occasion. The level of English spoken is variable too so ideally this is a hotel to come to if you have a bit of German. We'd happily stay here again, although as above, for a GaPa ski holiday my preference would be somewhere a little closer.

    Terrible service

I stayed almost two weeks at this Hotel. The room is nice enough, big and cleand. So no complaints about that. It is like the pictures. The breakfast is not worth a penny, so I barely bothered to eat it, even though it was paid. The Internet connection is poor, both through the 4G network and through the wifi. However, the worst part is the service. I arrived late, and informed about this advance to arrival. And still they complained when I checked in. Bad start. I tried to use the spa area, but they informed it was closed, and kicked me out. Even though it was one hour left according to the opening hours. I also got yelled at one afternoon, because they blamed me for some noise the day before. I was sleeping at the time they accused. A less polite, serviceminded and friendly hostess you should search long for. I have travelled a lot, and never experienced this behaviour from the hotel management. They clearly do not value their guests, and I will for sure not come back.
