A good budget hotel with clean rooms and toilets.

A good budget hotel with clean rooms and toilets.we went to Anuradapuraya on a long week end and all the hotels were full and when we were lost, we found this small guest house accidenlly and we did not have any other options. When you see from out side you will be mislead ed. But the service staff is very friendly and the rooms are big and comfortable and realy clean. We did not have meals from this place but they do serve meals.

Accommodation fine but very over priced

Our tuk tuk driver recommended this place to stay and drove us here from wilpattu. When we got there we were ushered into a room and told it would be RS3700. When we were hesitant (as we had looked at other places to stay) they dropped the price to 3500. We agreed to stay, although I wish we had stuck to our guns and gone somewhere else. The room itself was clean, but basic. There was air con which was good as we couldn't open the windows as the hotel backed onto a river and there are a lot of mosquitos. The bed was only provided with one sheet and we had to request several times over the course of the day for a top sheet. (We had seen into other rooms that had been set up much more nicely than ours, with sheets and a blanket). We eventually received one and put it on the bed. The bathroom was fine. Nothing fancy, but nothing terrible. Breakfast was included and nothing fancy (toast, tea, jam, fruit), but still good enough. The hotel backed onto a river which could be nice, but it is not really set up to enjoy the river (no chairs or tables nearly. Although, even if there were I would be hesitant to use them as the river was dirty and it seems neighbours use the rear of their yards to burn their rubbish - this is not the fault of the hotel, but it does detract from the amenity). The low rating for this place is because we felt like we were hussled into staying there before we had a chance to really think it through. The hotel is definitely over priced for what you get, although there was always a staff member around to assist us, it was sometimes difficult to communicate as we only speak English.

    Cheap shambles

Water Garden is a few kilometres west of the town centre in a sort of hotel district with a few restaurants around (and the busy New Town area is an easy walk south across the train track). The management is very disorganised in all respects and most staff know no more than very basic English, so organising anything can be difficult - but they can rent bicycles for 400 and do a bag of laundry for 500. Theres one young guy whos a bit better than the others at English and much better at organising things - you should meet him at breakfast. The room looked small but ok, clean, AC and fan, TV that appeared to work but had no remote. The bathroom had new fittings but was basic, smelly, had a window stuck open that let in lots of mosquitos and bugs, and had only cold water in the shower - which had medium pressure while the sink had very low pressure. The bed had a base sheet and pillows but no other sheets were provided, nor a towel. The restaurant is ok for food and prices, although quiet and disorganised, and the river looks nice but dont get too close because it stinks and the hotel just has so many mosquitos at night. The included breakfast was a large plate of fruit, then fresh fruit juice, then tea, then an egg accompanied by 8, count them, 8 pieces of toast (which sometimes arrived 15 minutes after the egg). There is a lot of noise in the evenings and early mornings - e.g., the kitchen staff like to shout a lot from 6am and that carries straight through to the rooms. I think theyre trying to act like more than a basic budget hotel in the hope of getting foreign and premium tourists but theyre not succeeding. However, it only cost about $15 per night (the cheapest place I stayed at in Sri Lanka and I regret going that low) and I dont know how that compares in Sri Lanka - maybe the facilities are similar to $15 rooms in southeast Asia but the management is shambolic.

    Good enough for this location

Stayed at this hotel for a night and definitely did not exceed my expectations. It was just a standard room equipped with a comfortable bed, tv which doesnt have a remote and a bathroom which had insects walking on the walls due to an opened window which couldnt be closed. Breakfast was satisfying but the river behind the hotel was disappointing. Nothing to be excited about. Staff were friendly and helpful. Appreciate their hospitality. The door was really annoying because the key kept getting stuck, which means i couldnt come out of the room. Lucky the window was big enough the walk out of it.

    Worst room

This was the worst place we stayed in SL. The room didn'th have the A.C. working and we use the fan to get the stench out of the room. It was full of mold in the bathroom and had poor ventilation. Young local boys were partying and shouted throughout our stay there. You can get cleaner and much peaceful place to stay for the same price in the area which is full of cozy homestays.
