Affordable, comfortable, peaceful, clean, secure, brilliant location.

Id describe the accommodation as 3 star, but given the price we paid at late notice in August 2018, it was excellent value for money. We occupied the deluxe family room; one lower floor which had a double bed, bathroom and kitchen, the mezzanine level had a double bedroom. There was a large window (no balcony) on the lower floor which opened fully. The apartment was on the third floor, 52 steps, which may be an issue for some. The apartment was cleaned daily, towels replaced, beds made and changed, a nice touch was the free daily compliment of shower gels. The security is excellent, the front door deadlock was one of three keys required to gain access. We felt completely comfortable leaving iPads, phones etc in the apartment. I think air con is free, but we never used it. Our list of suggestions for improvement is fairly small; perhaps a kettle, as boiling a pan to make tea and coffee was a bit of a nuisance, Id also suggest a few more cooking implements, tools to cook and serve spaghetti might be an idea, given that its Italy ;-) Id also suggest that staff familiarise themselves with the occupation tax; its 1.50 per person for a max of four nights, reception needed to be reminded that its not for the full stay, an easy mistake to make. Looking through previous comments Im surprised that others have criticised the location, as it couldnt be better placed to explore Palermo. You have the port and a good selection of bars/restaurants close by, either at garibaldi gardens, or near the port/harbour. And youre a couple of minutes from Vittorio Emmanuele, which is arguably the best thoroughfare from which to explore just about all the attractions. It also meets Via Roma, where left and right takes you to the main stations to get to the train station, or bus termini.

    Disaster

Unfortunately, it was not a pleasant experience. The hosts spoiled impression right from the start. We arrived at check in time, but nobody was waiting for us there when we rang the bell on the street). We called the phone number indicated near the door and the host, Michele, informed us that nobody is there and he will arrive in 30 minutes (he was subsequently late and arrived in 40 minutes). We had to walk to nearest piazza (3 minutes away), ordered pizza and drinks (we were exhausted after flight and walking from station to the b&b) - and wrote Michele a message that we would be waiting for him here. However, when Michele finally arrived and called us, he declined to go to piazza and just give us the keys (we informed him that we are in the middle of lunch). I left my wife in cafe and came to the b&b myself and was informed that they will locate us in another b&b for one night because of broken air condition in our room. We replied that we do not need it and wish to stay in this b&b, but Michele than told that the room is not cleaned before us (which sounds more real, also they may have overbooked their rooms in reality). I asked why we were not informed in advance, and the answer was that they could not contact us as the booking was not made directly, but via another site (we leave it to you whether to believe this excuse). Moreover, Michele argued about waiting for us till we finish our meal in 30 minutes' time because he seemingly was in hurry to somewhere else - it felt like negotiation at bazaar, but we reserved our stance and finished the meal. After all, we were left no choice (we have paid in advance) and accepted transfer to another location which turned out to be not a B&B, but just an appartment of lower grade much further from city center. Next morning Michele was again late for 15 minutes to pick us up and finally transfered us to Jardin where we had breakfast, but were unable to checkin before 11:00 and were even refused to visit the toilet so we had to explore nearby Palazzo Mirta. I have to note that neither Michele nor anyone of other staff did not provide any verbal excuses, let alone any compensation for waiting for check in and relocation to lower class appartments. To be honest, they did not even show any guilt. B&B itself does not show good value for money with very modest breakfast (no cheese except for processed, no eggs, ham) and no elevator (had to climb with suitcases on very narrow staircase). To sum up, we would not recommend this b&b due to poor attitude to guests albeit high pricetag comparing to other b&bs nearby.

    HORRIBLE EXPERIENCIA

    Worst hotel and service ever?

I have stayed in hotels and hostel all over the world from 5 star in Rhodes to a back packing hostel in Hanoi and Lima and beach shacks in India but this has to be the worst experience I have ever had. We had the misfortune of staying at this hotel during our tour of Sicily. We used a well known booking portal to book 4 nights based on the information and pictures supplied in addition to the four stars on trip advisor. Clearly since its last good review in Sep 2018 it has encountered some very bad times. Do not be fooled by the pictures as it is run down, badly kept, badly run and dirty. If you are old enough to remember Rising Damp this makes this look like the Ritz. They have changed some of the information since our stay as there was a picture of the harbour saying view from the hotel (see pictures) and it said it had a reception from 9am until 6pm daily now changed to partial reception We choose this hotel as it promised a sea view and lots of amenities, including beach umbrellas, playground, front desk safe, self service laundry, luggage storage, tour/ticket assistance, free wifi and the host spoke English. The pictures on the website showed a light, well presented small hotel. We arrived at 5.30pm, and rather than a beachside hotel, we found ourselves in a small alley, overlooking lots of flats. We rang the bell but were unable to gain access. No reception despite that at the time it said daily reception. We rang the number on the booking and eventually, after a 20 minute wait, a man arrived to check us in. He spoke very limited English and then proceeded to show us a series of rooms. One of the rooms he entered was occupied and another obviously had someone staying there. He seemed to have no idea of which rooms were free and which rooms were empty. As it was dusk, and the rooms were not well lit, it was not possible to determine the condition of the rooms There was no obvious front desk / reception, there was a small sign saying reception behind a locked door. Eventually we settled on a room. The man showing us round then said that we had to pay in the morning. We advised that we had already paid through the booking portal and he then became very anxious to see how we had paid and my husband showed him the details on the phone, which he took a photo of. There was no information available, on tours etc, or where the laundry was etc etc. We asked the man about the internet, he said someone would come before 8 to give us the internet. We waited until it was gone 8 and then we called the number on the booking. The person on the end of the phone didnt speak English. They said to call back in 20 mins. We called back and a lady answered the phone, who spoke a little English. We asked about the internet but she brushed that aside and said that someone would come tomorrow morning before 10 to collect payment for the room, despite the fact that we had already paid and explained this to the man that had let us in. Once again we explained that we had already paid and she said that we couldnt pay on line, it HAD TO BE CASH. Their reason being that they had a problem with the website! We said we would get back to her. They seemed quite aggressive. We then phoned specialist hotel company we had booked through, who assured us that payment had already been made, they contacted the owner while we were on the phone, and then advised us that they had told the owner that payment had been made to themselves We phoned the owner back and said that we had payment confirmation. We asked again about the internet and were told that someone would come tomorrow morning by 10.00 (bearing in mind that the reception was supposed to open at 9am) I had had a couple of whats app messages on my phone, (as I had used that to call the owner), but they were in Italian. I wrote in English that I didnt understand Italian and we then used Google translate to ask where the internet was, but got no reply. By this time, it was 8.45 and we were exhausted, so we went for a meal and then went to bed. When we woke the next morning, we were able to have a closer look at the room. We found a huge cockroach in the bath room, still alive, the toilet seat was broken, there was blood on the pillowcase and the second bed was held up with lampshades. The curtain rail was crooked and there were bare wires hanging out of the wall. All in all the hotel, in our opinion, misrepresented itself big time. It was nothing like the ads on the website We called the owner again and asked about the internet and mentioned things in the room. He said he would be there by 10.00am. 10.00am came and went and as it was our holiday, we decided that enough was enough. We had tried to contact the owners but they seemed reluctant to come and address the problems. Bearing in mind that they say the reception is manned from 9am to 6pm and we had not seen anyone . I was not prepared to stay in a dirty hotel, that was nothing like it purported to be and who were not prepared to come and deal with an obvious problem with its guests. At 10:30 we left the hotel and booked into an IBIS who said we were the second person who had come to them from this hotel. We returned to the hotel at about 12:30 to collect our luggage and still there was nobody there to meet us. There was a taped note on the door saying that they needed our passports, but no mention of the internet, or our concerns. We did try to log on but still the problem with the internet had not been addressed. We were not happy or comfortable and didnt feel safe, especially as the owner had demanded more money. We had tried to communicate both with the owners and through Hotels.com but we had seen no one since being let in some 15.5 hours earlier .
