Shearings Short BreakBeen on a few of these trips over the years since retirement but can honestly say this was the nicest of their hotels we have stayed in - we just had a basic double room which had recently been refurbished and had everthing we needed - the only thing that didn't work was the heated towel rail in the bathroom which we reported to reception. It is in a lovely setting right on the seafront with a ferry oposite for exploring further if needs be - the food was outstanding and all the staff very helpful.

Great Early Spring HolidayWe have just returned from a really relaxing break in St Mawes as part of a 5 day Shearings break. The hotel was clean and tidy, the bar overlooked the bay and was really pleasing. Breakfast was A1 as self service and could have what you needed. Evening meals were excellent with a great choice and a special. The room we stopped in was of good quality and bathroom fine. Ive attached a lived in photo. There was entertainment on Wednesday which was good and did not want you to go to bed and watch Netflix on the ipad eary or wander to a pub. As part of the break we had trips but the ferry to Falmouth was just outside the hotel and a bus every hour to Truro. There are some good walks from the hotel which are easy to follow from google maps or an OS map. Long stay car park if needed is on the harbour driveway. There are a few pubs search google pubs St Mawes, we tried them but preferred the hotel as there was a view. The hotel staff were really friendly which added to our break. Looking forward to another break next year.

Lovely hotel in wonderful settingOur first experience of a Shearings holiday, 4 nights 2-6 March, a treat to ourselves for our 30th wedding anniversary. The hotel is in such a picturesque setting and we were given a room upgrade so we were right on the front with our own balcony. Not a lot to do here so really relaxing which was just what we wanted, although we did go to Falmouth on the ferry from just outside the hotel. As for the hotel, our room was gorgeous, clean and well equipped. The staff were so helpful, attentive, friendly and efficient. The food was very very nice. Really couldnt find a fault with anything, we had THE BEST time, thankyou Ship & Castle. I dont think we will see you again because we like to see different places but this is not a reflection on you at all, youve set the standard high for anywhere else we want to visit now!

Excellent stayCame for a 5 day break with Shearings. The room was of good size views exccellent and clean we could find no fault. The meals were good but breakfast was a bit of a challenge to get a table. Staff and service very good. I would recommend this hotel.

Great pub, really friendly staffMe and my partner came here twice for drinks on the same day. Staff really friendly. Great prices. It's a shame we found this pub on our last night staying in Portsmouth as we would definitely have visited again if staying longer. Highly recommended. Great banter with the staff (we didn't catch his name but we thought he was the manager, thank you for the great service!) :)
