  A pleasant stay

  We stayed here for one night as a stopover. Our room overlooked the main road so it was a little noisy but it was a spacious room with a large bathroom. All good. We had dinner at the hotel and although there was a lengthy wait for food owing to the place being busy and presumably fewer staff owing to Covid, the food was worth waiting for with excellent corn fed chicken. The restaurant is in a pleasant room to the rear. Breakfast was well cooked and presented and nice and hot!. The car park is difficult to find owing to road detours while we were there and is accessed via what appears to be a private driveway.

  Blowing a horn for the Hornblower.

  Stayed two nights over August bank holiday in Room 10 in the courtyard. Roomy double which was very quiet (except for squeaky extractor in bathroom!) and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. Best two nights sleep Ive had in a fortnight. Breakfast was also delicious, freshly made, with all variations requested cheerfully supplied (Id totally recommend the breakfast sundae). I agree with a previous review that the green light in the bedroom is inexplicable and unnecessary but it didnt keep us awake and I would also warn visitors to Oakham that, perhaps due to Covid, that it is really hard to find an evening meal, other than a takeaway, after 8pm. They all stop serving at 8pm, if theyre open at all. For a city slicker, its a bit of a shock!

  Very Nice Indeed

  Stayed at the Hornblower 3 times in 8 weeks July August 2020, not a dull moment all the staff and management were really nice, all food is freshly cooked with a great menu, fresh flowers on dining tables good range of drinks, a good beer garden with under cover area and large screen tv, very clean and good maid service, ample parking, in general a very nice stay, tjanks again to all management and staff, Ally Wells, Scotland

  Fair service

  Fair service didnt listen to the questions I asked and they didnt have a fantastic amount of drinks and a optional choice for the milk in the drink was not there and not enough snacks on the menu it wasnt good fun and the chairs felt like they were about to break.

  Food and service superb. Very Covid-safe. Cant fault any aspect

  Six of us (3 couples) ) went for dinner here last evening. We were shown to a room at the front which normally caters for several more guests than our small group. We were given three separate tables for two, set at angles and extremely socially-distanced. All six of us opted for the same salmon pastrami starter. There were only two portions available so they offered to give some of it to each of us and added smoked salmon and samphire served on big circular platters, with croutons and a delicious creamy sauce drizzled round the edge. Exceptional! The turkey mains were delicious and were the various desserts. Their Christmas pud. is second to none. Everyone wore masks and the cutlery, condiments and glassware all arrived at the last minute. Impressive anti-Covid efforts. A great evening was had by all and we will definitely be returning soon.
